"Tell him I am going for afternoon tea."

Summary:

King George III being a good dad and a good husband.

Notes:

First fic on AO3!!! Frickin finally!!! This is just a lil thing I wrote for an art trade with @hanovermess-tm on Tumblr. I'm American, so I would love for an actual Brit to tell me how tea works.

Work Text:

George isn’t sure he wants to be King today.

To be perfectly frank, he only wants two things. A cuppa and Charlotte.

The Private Secretary steps in. “Your Majesty, North is waiting!”

He groans to himself. “Tell him I am going for afternoon tea.” Glancing at his phone, he sees a text from Charlotte.

Are you joining us dear?

In a moment.

Moments later, another text.

Prinny is excited to hear about your day.

Not exciting.

Twinings or Earl Grey?

Earl Grey for me.

George closes his laptop and stands, feeling the stiffness in his back and shoulders acutely. How long has he been sitting for? His fingers ache as well… how long has he been typing? Has he really settled into destructive habits?

Well. That simply means he shall have tea.

The parlor isn’t as quiet as usual today, the King and the Prince of Wales speaking of the day. Prince George, little boy of 6 that he is, knows he’s going to be King one day and constantly asks George about his day so he should know everything about being King.

“Do you write a lot of emails, Daddy?”

“Yes, very many. Everybody wants to know what I think of this or that. Sometimes I can get North or Bute to answer them, but they don’t like it either.”

“Why would you have Bute answer them? He’s mean!”

“Bute is not mean, Prinny,” George chides. “He is simply stern. He writes very good emails.”

Charlotte giggles to herself. “That I am afraid you are mistaken on, dear.”

George laughs aloud at that. “You had best not let him hear that!”

She leans in, resting her head on his shoulder. He puts his right arm about her, then his left.

“Ooooh!” coo Prinny and Frederick, 5 years old. Little children will be like that, he supposes. George gives them a look, and simply holds his wife.

How he longs for more teatimes like this.
