Chapter Text
I can’t help but pace back and forth in the large living area, in a constant rotation between checking my messages, the time, and the entrance to the penthouse, waiting to hear *any* news from either of the boys.
My boys.
It’s been a long time since Zayne and Sylus became a couple- much longer than I was ever asked to be a part of their secret lives- but it’s rare for them to go out on one of Sylus’ missions together. Usually the doctor prefers to stay out of the mess, away from the darker sides of Sylus’ job, but occasionally he’ll join if Sylus is concerned about any... difficult messes. I always try to join them, but they both shut that down quickly, ordering Mephisto to keep me company as they disappear with the twins.
Opening and closing my phone for the millionth time, I glance over to our bird to find him already watching me. “Any chance they contacted you?” He caws once, wings flapping before he vanishes out the open window, and I can’t help but sigh. “Of course not...” I pad over to the patio and lean out on the railing, sighing as I look over the horizon. Sylus was smart, using his resources and connections to secure a private building on the edge of Linkon and the N109 Zone to make it easier, but now the view of both worlds make my chest ache. I miss seeing them both, their steady presence keeping the world around us calm despite the constant fights between Wanderers, Ever, and of course Sylus’ countless enemies.
Faintly I hear the ding of the elevator, and I whip around in time to see my boys stepping into the living room, the dark circles under their eyes a clear indication of their exhaustion. I can see Sylus’ frown as he scans the room, his features instantly softening as his eyes land on me. “Sweetie.”
I release a breath, making my way over as Zayne reaches for me, gently squeezing my hand. “Are you alright? You look upset.”
I chuckle a bit, shaking my head. “No, I’m not upset, I just... You both are late.”
“Apologies, kitten. We have a few... uncooperative guests.” Sylus hums, tossing his jacket on the side of the couch and ignoring Zayne’s frown. His crimson eyes study me for a long moment, as if trying to read my mind without using his evol. “I didn’t mean to worry you.”
Zayne grabs Sylus’ leather jacket, hanging both up by the door. “We were going to send you a message, but there was a bit of an... issue, we had to handle.” He takes my hand again, lips pressing a gentle kiss to my knuckles. “We’re sorry, sweetheart.”
I shake my head, pulling away from Zayne’s touch and ignoring his frown. “No apologizing, just... Always come back to me.” I reach my arms for them both, seeing how both sets of shoulders relax at the invitation.
Before I can blink Sylus scoops me up, making me squeak in surprise and cling to him as he leads us into the bedroom, Zayne right behind as Sylus unceremoniously drops on the bed, keeping me pinned to his chest as I struggle in his grip. I finally get loose enough to shift, settling more comfortably as Zayne slides in beside us, keeping me between them as they finally relax.
“Kitten,” Sylus purrs, gently tilting my chin towards him. “Nothing in this world will keep us from returning to you. Not in the N109 zone, not in Deepspace, not even in Linkon. We’re yours, just as much as you’re ours.”
Zayne hums, hand gently squeezing where it’s resting on my hip. “Next time we’ll make sure you aren’t left waiting for us.”
“And I know just how to make it up to you.” Sylus smirks, tugging me closer as his hands wander my skin, letting us make up for lost time until sunrise.
