Work Text:
Going for a drive to the beach with Beomgyu didn't sound all too bad to Soobin. Actually, he secretly hoped for them to be able to go for quite a while already.
Sadly though, before the two were able to make plans, Soobin had to take a break from work due to health-related issues.
He got a few months off and was now temporarily living with his family in his hometown, Ansan, for the time being.
There wasn‘t much he missed about work; not the tight schedules, not the stale coffee nor the boring conversations, but there was something, or rather someone, he missed very dearly–his colleague and years long best friend–Beomgyu. The two were almost inseparable, so the more it hurt for them to part when Soobin fell sick.
Soobin, who was asleep most of the days, was oblivious to just how crazy his best friend was about him. That was until the very moment Beomgyu revealed that he called in sick just to visit him a couple of weeks in. Beomgyu told him that he would‘ve done it sooner but he pitied their boss who was constantly stressing out about missing Soobin and finding a substitute.
“Made me wonder who missed you more.” Beomgyu joked when they ate dinner together. “So I had to prove a point.” He explained about his unannounced appearance at Soobin‘s front door one random evening.
Soobin could only giggle and smile at his best friend‘s silly nature. He missed him so badly.
“I came here because I wanted to drive to the beach with you.” Beomgyu announced proudly. Soobin loved the sea and Beomgyu loved Soobin. Of course they had to go to the beach together now that the opportunity was conveniently laid out in front of them. “I‘d love to.” Soobin beamed at the other before a smirk tugged at the corners of his lips. “But under one condition.” Soobin‘s smug expression scared Beomgyu a little. “I‘m gonna drive us there.”
Beomgyu snorted in disbelief. “What are you talking about? You don't even–”
“I passed.” Soobin announced. “I have a driver's license now and, dare I say, I‘m a phenomenal driver.” Soobin bragged, confidence bubbling out of him with every word that trickled from his lips. Beomgyu‘s jaws unclenched, leaving him sitting open mouthed and wide eyed before the other.
“What do you mean?”
He couldn't believe it. Soobin. The Choi Soobin. His best friend Soobin. Had his driver's license? …Had the instructor completely lost his mind?
“I won't let you drive my car.” Beomgyu gagged at the thought but his whole attitude about it was useless anyway. Both of them knew that Beomgyu would cave and let Soobin drive his car eventually.
And so, once Beomgyu finally dropped his act, they packed their stuff and prepared for an early departure the next morning.
___
The next day everything was going just fine. Beomgyu complied to Soobin’s plan after another short round of bickering and Soobin paid extra attention not to fuck around with the other’s car.
He was a good driver, everyone told him so. He got this.
For the first half of the drive it was just the two of them vibing; talking, singing, laughing, just enjoying the view and the atmosphere with the wind tousling their hair whenever Beomgyu rolled down the window.
It was a quiet and comfortable atmosphere and Soobin felt extra good being able to show off his driving skills.
That was until he accidentally made Beomgyu’s car stutter at a traffic light.
Hell broke loose.
Soobin unleashed Beomgyu’s demons.
“Ahh be careful! What are you doing?” Beomgyu’s voice rang in Soobin’s ears like an unpleasant alarm.
“It’s okay. It’s okay.” He assured Beomgyu frantically.
Oh, this will go on for a while now…
“My poor car. You’re so reckless.”
“Literally nothing happened, Gyu.” A sigh of defeat emerged from Soobin’s chest as he could see Beomgyu lean forward from the corner of his eyes, his hands clutching the edges of his seat. “Next thing I know you’ll drive into a wall.” He said, his eyes wide as he dramatically checked if there were any dangers around.
Soobin scoffed.
“There’s not even walls arou–”
“Or a ditch. Whatever.” Beomgyu interrupted Soobin, completely lost in his monologue. “I swear, if I die because of your reckless driving I will kill you.”
(How would that even–nevermind).
Soobin felt his heart rate quicken. He couldn’t quite figure out whether Beomgyu was annoying him just for shits and giggles or if he was serious.
Sometimes even Beomgyu didn’t know.
Well, what Soobin did know was that he had to do something to make him shut his mouth soon or he’d reconsider the whole ‘driving into a wall or ditch’ ordeal.
“Beomgyu…” Soobin addressed the other warningly, eyes never leaving the road. “Stop it already.”
“You tell me to stop? I’m scared for my car… and my life!” Beomgyu crossed his arms with a huff, head turning away from Soobin to look out the window beside him. Soobin rolled his eyes, catching a glimpse of Beomgyu’s pouty lips through the reflection in the window.
He was so ridiculous.
Why did he like him so much again?
“If you keep nagging me, I will make sure that you actually have to fear for your life.” Soobin playfully threatened, his voice dropping low to sound more serious.
Oh yeah, he could play along. Beomgyu would soon see what he gets from messing with Soobin.
“Are you threatening me?” Beomgyu asked, scandalized, a hand flinging to his chest as he turned to look at Soobin in shock.
“Maybe.” Soobin’s lips turned up into a smirk. “But actually I’m just trying to get you to shut up.” He explained with a tremor in his voice, trying his very hardest not to laugh and keep up the act.
“Huh… If it bothers you so much then try harder.” Beomgyu leaned closer to Soobin. “C’mon.” His voice was deep and his hot breath tickling the shell of Soobin’s ear. It almost made him shoot through the roof of the car
“Make me.”
With burning warmth radiating off of Beomgyu’s hand which had found its place onto Soobin’s thigh, something snapped within the latter.
With his heart hammering against his ribcage, Soobin sucked in his bottom lip and did his best to stay calm and to suppress any detectable reaction to Beomgyu’s merciless teasing.
His plan? Insane.
But so was he.
All he had to do now was wait and hope that Beomgyu would retreat soon enough, his touch threatening and presence so dangerous it sent Soobin into cold sweats.
And luckily, as expected, it didn’t take Beomgyu long to lean back into his seat again, an almost disappointed scoff following a roll of his eyes as he turned to look outside with crossed arms.
“That's what I thought…” Soobin could hear him mumble provocatively and while it did rile up the competitive part within him, he had to remind himself of his goal.
This was perfect.
This was exactly where he wanted to have him.
Now it was all just a matter of a couple more seconds as Soobin patiently waited for the next best opportunity to stop the car at the side of the road.
With his heart beating in his throat, Soobin slowly pulled over.
Here goes nothing.
“What are you doing?” Beomgyu asked with unease once the car came to a halt, his eyes aimlessly darting around as he tried to make sense of the situation.
“Hello? Earth to Soobin.” He tried again after not receiving an explanation the first time, his hand now on Soobin’s arm, gently shaking him in a desperate attempt to gain his attention.
But it was to no avail.
There was only one thing on Soobin’s mind, a wild and impulsive urge that he had fought against on multiple occasions already. Now though? The voices grew louder and all he could do was to surrender. With his hands nervously squeezing the wheel in front of him, he felt Beomgyu‘s eyes bore holes into the side of his head.
It only added to his unhingedness.
He loved how fast he was able to take control over the situation.
“Soobin? Can you plea–”
And with a swift move Soobin leaned over to Beomgyu, his hand reaching for his chin as he crashed his lips into Beomgyu‘s full force.
“Mhm!” Beomgyu whined into the kiss, his cheeks getting squished by Soobin’s long fingers, his body trembling, twisting, winding, not knowing what to do until he finally eased into the connection, accepting defeat. Well, at least that's what Soobin‘s competitive side called it.
In reality it was a mutual feeling of relief.
When Soobin pulled back after what felt like forever, for the first time in minutes his ears were blessed by the blissful sound of silence.
With his heart full of excitement, he slowly loosened his grip on the other‘s cheeks as their eyes found each other in a moment of shared realization over what just happened.
“I-I–” Beomgyu started, but Soobin was quick to shush him before he was able to continue to fumble his words.
“Shh…let's just… not.”
And, oddly enough, Beomgyu accepted with a slow nod, dazed and with his cheeks flushed red.
“Okay…” He blinked at Soobin with his ridiculously long lashes as soft puffs of air continued to fall from his lips.
Soobin tried his best not to smile, still trying to keep up his act, though he feared it was long over for him with how hot the tips of his ears felt at this point.
Lucky for him, Beomgyu didn‘t dare to point out just how sheepish he actually looked, too busy trying to calm his heart and smiling to himself in victory over a goal that felt impossible to reach before. And while Soobin did notice a flicker of mischief in Beomgyu’s eyes, he chose to skillfully ignore it for his own sanity.
This wasn’t exactly what Soobin pictured their first kiss to be like. Neither was he sure what this made them, too afraid to ask, too afraid of losing what they had...
Nevertheless, he trusted Beomgyu and was certain that after a long and quiet drive to the beach, the two of them had enough time to wrap their heads around all of this.
And Soobin was right. He could trust Beomgyu and he had nothing to worry about after all– nothing to fear, nothing to lose.
Maybe their first kiss wasn’t perfect, but Beomgyu made sure their second one was.
