Work Text:

They say that one's Digimon is a reflection of oneself.

Tomoro's not quite sure if he agrees; he's fairly certain that there's a lot more differences than similarities between him and Gekkomon. However, recently for some reason, Gekkomon, has developed a habit of staring at Raito.

For an excitable and energetic Digimon to simply stand still and stare at someone for ages is very noticeable. Raito notices immediately, shooting him a sour look. "Why does your Digimon keep on staring at me," he hisses out this question after the seventh time this phenomenon has occurred.

Tomoro is also at a loss. He doesn't think it's a particularly serious matter though. He hazards a guess, "Maybe because you look good?"

Now that Raito's out of Tactics, he's beginning to regain color in his cheeks, and the self-assured attitude is starting to bubble up to the surface once again. It has a certain attractiveness to it. There's no doubt that Raito's the type to be popular amongst his peers, even when he's prone to being a terrible conversationalist.

At his words, Raito flushes, looking irritable. "...Tsk. You really like saying weird things."

"Well, Monodramon also seems to like staring at Gekkomon, so it shouldn't be too weird."

"He's staring at you, not at your Digimon. Are your glasses just for show?" The irritation flares up, and then Raito tsks once more. "...It's definitely because Monodramon thinks that you're a weirdo."

"...Hmm."

Their conversation pauses there, since Kyo arrives and tells them about a joint-bounty mission.

It's not like Tomoro's treating it like a game, but there's something... interesting in the way Raito reacts to him, his words and his actions. Raito's prone to flushing pink or being rendered speechless more and more. He has such rich facial expressions, to the point that Tomoro feels some sort of motivation to see just how much more Raito would react to him.

It seems to be a sharp contrast with the way Gekkomon seems to calm down recently. Gekkomon seems to be more at peace, content with staring at Raito or circling around Monodramon like he's patrolling the perimeter of his territory. The calmer and quieter Gekkomon appears to be, the more restless Tomoro feels, like his blood is singing with some sort of frenetic pulse.

He also wants to stare at Raito. He also wants to circle around Raito, if only to ensure that he wouldn't leave his sight again. It's one thing to entrust his well-being to his teammates, but there's something to be said in getting the job done himself. There are even times that he catches himself thinking about Raito's reaction if he ends up getting licked in the face. He'd probably end up being so flustered, before turning bright red with anger.

Perhaps it's this gluttonous greed that he shares with Gekkomon.

He kind of wants to devour every reaction that Raito is capable of showing.

That's why, when the mission is over, Tomoro makes sure to corner Raito in a place where others wouldn't see. Each step closer enriches Raito's expression; there's a mix of wariness, apprehension and anticipation on his face.

Raito scoffs first, angling his head to make the most of their meager height difference. "What, do you have a problem with how I handled today's bounty?"

"No." He shakes his head and continues observing the other's face as their distance dwindles to nothing. "You were amazing today."

That smoothens the irritable twitch in Raito's brow. "O-Of course. I'm a genius, after all."

"Your tactical prowess really shines in that kind of situation," he continues. Being more vocal about his feelings is something that he's learned along the way. It's especially helpful now, as he stares at the other's face, drinking in every change in his expression. "You taking the lead made sure that we completed the bounty safely and quickly."

The pink flush returns. Uncertainty colors Raito's expression, making him look oddly vulnerable. Tomoro's stomach twitches with that odd thought of wanting to see the other's reaction to his face getting licked. Since Gekkomon isn't around right now, then maybe he could—

"—What's the point of saying these things, idiot Tomoro!" Completely like a cat whose tail has been stepped on.

"I'm just stating the truth." It's a plain and simple acknowledgement of the other person. "So make sure you listen to them, okay?"

"Who wants to listen to your nonsense," Raito grumbles, but he tellingly doesn't jump away from the spot where he's increasingly being cornered.

It makes something inside Tomoro grow warm. This slow but steady acceptance of his intrusion to the other's personal space gives him a measure of satisfaction. It makes him want to want more. It makes him want to stare at the other more. It makes him want to push the boundaries more. It makes him want to see just what other facets could Raito show him.

Soon, Tomoro thinks, he's going to really end up giving in to the odd desire to lick the other's face.
