Work Text:
Edgeworth is at his tailor, as usual. Yet nothing seems to feel usual. Firstly, Edgeworth is looking at swatches of blue colors, looking much more intensely than when selecting his usually burgundy colors. Secondly, Mia fey is accompanying him, not a strange duo if seen in the halls, yet outside the confounds of Hogwarts, they do make an odd pairing. Lastly, Edgeworth looks nervous, genuinely, brows furrowed, one hand clenched, and the other fidgeting with his sleeve chain rhythmically.
It's 13.00 on a Saturday, and Phoenix was out with Trucy and Maya, the latter who had invited them out that morning to a new theme park that opened. Phoenix at first was a bit hesitant, he had a dinner later with miles, and he didn't wanna be drained of energy. Yet Maya insisted, and even miles from across the table agreed that it would be good to spend time with Trucy and Maya. So he ended up relenting in the end. He did though ask miles to pick out some nice clothing for him as he didn't wanna stress before the dinner.
And that leaves miles in the precise scenario he planned out. Phoenix is out of the house distracted and having fun. Giving miles the ideal time to find a perfect suit for phoenix, as well as himself. Another reason they needed Phoenix out doing something was so that he didn't go to the school. As gumshoe and Godot were currently decorating one of Hogwarts balconies, the one where Phoenix found Edgeworth again years after the incident.
It was the yearly party right before Christmas break. Snow was slowly falling down. It was nearing midnight, some had gone to bed. A wise choice Miles was surprised he didn't choose. Instead he stood, in the cold darkness, looking up, stars gazing down at him. Blinking, comforting eyes. The noise from the drunk mass was muted, a spell placed to not disturb the nature outside the school. It was peaceful. Miles was so caught up in the stars and snows quite beautiful, that he didn't notice someone else joining him.
“Isn’t it cold?”
Miles didn't say anything, he already knew who it was, yet he refused to interact with him. Not knowing how his old friend would react to… Well what he has become. Choosing instead to remain as cold as the snow that slowly accumulated on his gray hair. Phoenix the ever stubborn man decided to poke the lion. Walking up and leaning on the fence miles was standing by, pretending to enjoy the view. They just stood there, for what seemed like eternity. What broke the silence was the light sound of metal jingeling. Miles immediately tensed, his back shooting to be straight, his head looking ahead, and his hands falling to his sides, from where they apparently had left after Phoenix came.
“Are you sure you aren't cold?” Phoenix asked, it was said in such a relaxed tone. Meant more to break the silence, than a genuine question. “You know we could always just go inside.” snow had at this point started to lay on his dark spiky hair. Making the spikes look less like spikes, and more like mountains. Miles reluctantly looked at the man, but more in disbelief than anything. They hadn't talked in over a decade, they had changed, he had changed. Yet the snow on Phoenix's hair somehow, brought him back. It made the air not feel as tense, this was someone who knew Miles Edgeworth, when he was an Edgeworth. Lost in thought he didn't see Phoenix looking at him, smiling a small smile, a reassuring one, one that made the cold disappear. “I brought some glögg. I figured you prefer that over butter beer… also to keep warm, you've been out here for a while Edgeworth". The stiff tension was brought back by the use of his last name. He knew he would do the same, but it somehow burst the time bubble Miles found himself in. Yet he still took the drink slowly out of Phoenix's hand, their hands lingering maybe a second too long. Yet that was quickly forgotten when Miles finally spoke up.
“Shouldn’t you be looking after Larry, Wright? I believe we both know not to leave him to his devices” said plainly and coldly, bringing back the snow around them. Phoenix huffed a small laugh, but clearly taken aback by Miles icy demeanor. He knew a long time had gone by, the loss of a parent, and then taken in by Manfred von karma of all people. One whose morals were the opposite of Gregory Edgeworth's. Ironic he thought. He took a big gulp of the glögg, feeling it warm his insides slowly. He breathed out.
“Edgeworth he will be fine, he has changed since we were small, we have all changed haven't we…Miles”
“I suppose we have Wright, I suppose we all have”
They stood there again, this time longer, minutes went by, when Miles had finally finished his glass, did Phoenix decide to speak up again.
“Look, I know a lot of time has passed, but I would like… I would like to catch up again.” The last part came out, almost forced from Phoenix's throat. He knew that Miles had changed much more than he had, or properly ever will, and that standing before him wasn't the boy who defended him all those years ago. But he did share memories with that boy, memories Phoenix would like to relive again. Even if for a short while. Even if it was fake.
Miles didn't answer at first, remaining silent. The metal sound started again. Miles' head was spinning, he desperately wanted to tell Wright to go away, to leave him alone. That he wasn't the boy he was, that he didn't want anything to do with Wright, but he couldn't. A part of him sought the comfort in someone who knew him, who knew the real Miles. The one not affected by Von Karma, and the need for perfection.
“Wright why” he said almost exasperated, yet it was closer to a whisper. He had at this point ripped one end of the chain out, as his brain kept spiraling. Why could phoenix not just leave him alone. Why must be constantly reminded of the life he could have had. The life Phoenix was out here flaunting, a life of joy and friends. Edgeworth knew that he was jealous, yet he also knew that he didn't hate Phoenix for being Phoenix, no he hated his own life. He wished his dad never died, he wished he was never taken in by Karma. There was no love to be received from that man. There was no love left for Miles to give. It was gone the second that spell flew past his eyes. The moment his dad hit the floor. While his dads blood flooded out, Miles' love, his feelings, his life, swam away along the river of red.
This spiraling was stopped when a gentle hand placed itself on Miles shaking fidgeting ones. He looked up, somewhat blurry in vision, to see a Phoenix with a concerned expression. He straightened up as best as he could. Gave Phoenix back the glass and said in a hushed, more human tone:
“Theres a week left before school goes out for Christmas. We meet Tuesday after classes, in the library in the defence against the dark arts section. I have a room we can be in. Bring your homework as well.” And then he left. As puffy as ever, mumbled something inconceivable under his breath as he turned round, straightening himself. Blinked a few times, and opened the door. As it closed behind him it left Phoenix the immense silence that was winter nights.
That balcony has ever since reminded miles of his dear Phoenix. And he knew that as it reunited them once, it would be the place to unite them once more. Yet those thoughts were dimmed behind the decision. Between 2 shades of blue, navy or royal blue. He knew his boyfriend had worn both colors before, yet he wanted it to be perfect, he needed it to be perfect, not for himself no, but for phoenix. He stood in a situation of needing to find something perfect for phoenix, something phoenix would feel great wearing. And it was one of the most difficult decisions he had ever had to take.
“You know Phoenix will love whatever you give him right, no need to stress so hard” Mia said in a calming voice, the one she used on her students even. And it made miles realize that just like back then, he had ripped the chain out of his suit. He cursed under his breath and went to find some thread. He knew the owner very well and knew he was allowed to use something as small as some thread “yes i am aware miss fey, but i just… I just wanna make it perfect, he deserves it… I can't believe I planned all of this, yet the most difficult thing is finding Phoenix a suit.” He sounded tired, annoyed, yet also happy, it was like his very being was beaming, and shining through whatever emotion that may overlap it. “You know according to Maya and Mr. Gumshoe it took longer to decide on a ring, but I understand. I heard from Godot how long it took him to find a ring, and even just a venue. Just don’t stress too much, he loves you, trust me, he really does, and he always has, he doesn't need perfection Edgeworth, he needs you” Mia came and placed a hand on his shoulder, using her wand to find a white dress shirt, and pulling it towards them. “How about we look at the colors later, i think this dress shirt would fit Phoenix well”
“NIICCKKK come on its only a 25 min wait for the dragon coaster come on come ooonnn” yelled maya a few meters ahead of Phoenix, who was getting dragged along by a very very eager Trucy, grinning ear to ear, wearing a headband with dragon horns, that a park member was nice enough to modify so it could sit on her tophat. Phoenix followed after his daughter and was both happy and relieved. He had been worried about them, or even Trucy getting sick, considering that this was the first weekend of winter break, and snow had already started to fall. Yet maya had apparently thought of that as this park had some new magic artifact made specifically to keep a specific climate within its radius. It was a nice 20 degrees inside the park, Maya was even wearing a short sleeved shirt. Phoenix was wearing his old hoodie, not wanting to be recognized, nor look fancy, he already knew he would be dressing up later. A dinner with miles, without Trucy or any one else, usually if not always, ended them up in a fancy restaurant on miles dime. While phoenix did not mind it at all, he was still somewhat getting used to wearing a suit, and all the etiquette. Miles had tried to teach him basic etiquette a billion times, yet he still sometimes used his butter knife as a normal knife. Miles had understandably given up on him, and Phoenix could nothing but sigh heavily at the memory, while getting in the cart after Trucy. Since they were 3, Maya had sat herself in the cart right in front of them, turning around and chatting with Trucy before the ride started. “Nick, are you sure you can handle this ride? You don't look so good” Phoenix looked up and was brought back to reality right as the ride started moving “DAADDYY ITS STARTING WOOOOOOOO” trucy basically yelled putting her arms in the air, her hat and headband had been placed in a locker along with their bags, as Phoenix was scared it would fall of her head. Phoenix sighed, took Trucy's hands and gave her a smile “Yes yes it is, are we ready Trucy?? Maya”. Trucy and Maya basically skipped out of the ride when it was done, where Phoenix more staggered out of it, clearly not ready for the intensity of the rollercoaster. The girls wanted a stuffed bear so they walked over to the carnival games.
As Phoenix was nailing a “shoot the duck” game, a man came up behind Trucy, grabbed her hat and looked down. “Hallo meine kleine fräulein” a blond man stood bent over looking down at Trucy. “KLAVIER” Trucy yelled, turning around and hugging the older blond. “And hallo fräulein Fey, herr Wright”. He said smirking, standing up straight and giving Trucy her hat back, patting it as he placed it on her head. “Hello Mr gavin, surprise meeting you here” said phoenix before casting another spell and hitting the last duck, getting a large similar duck plush from the vendor, who looked very surprised and terrified, at Phoenix's precision and general slack demeanor when casting spells. Klaviar soon notices that an arm has been wrapped around his own, and sees an Apollo looking off to the side, completely zoning out, holding the penguin plush Klavier had just won for him, close. Klavier smiles, flips his hair and says “Ah Hello again my dear Herr forehead, i just so happened to find out some of our dear classmates, and even our defense against the dark arts teacher Herr Wright, have also chosen to spend time in this park.” Apollo freezes, immediately takes his arm off Klavier, shoves the penguin to Klavier and takes a big step to the side of Klavier before awkwardly saying hello, being in panic mode he basically yells “HELLO PROFESSOR WRIGHT, HELLO TRUCY, HELLO MISS FEY”, before realising he was too loud and going tomato red in the face, just looking down at the ground. Klavier just starts laughing softly before putting his arm around Apollo and taking over the talking part. “Have you tried the dragon coaster yet, Fräulein??" Klaviar says, patting Trucy yet again on the head. “Yes we have, we were just on it, IT'S SO GOOD” she says gleaming with energy, have you two tried it mr. Gavin?” she says this as Phoenix comes up behind her and puts the duck in front of her face “here you go Trucy, hope you like it, Oh and hello Justice, i see you two are having a day out together, it's a great place right?”. And to Apollo's dismay he goes more and more red in the face, this is to klaviars GREAT amusement tho, laughing and tugging ever apollo ever closer. They stand and talk for a few minutes, where it becomes painfully obvious to all that the two young men are out on a date, as seen by Apollo becoming more and more red in the face, when Klavier tries to explain why they are out by themselves, and why he has his arm around Apollo.
They split ways after some goodbyes and merry christmases. Trucy is apparently not done with the stalls, so they spend another hour and a half just walking around, Phoenix and Trucy dominating every spell booth they come across. The madness ends with Wright looking like the stuffed toy shelf, holding 5 or 6 giant stuffed animals as well as a plastic bag with carnival themed stuff that Trucy wanted for her shows. They decided that it was getting late, but Trucy is not done wanting to hang out with Maya, and they instead end up agreeing to let Trucy stay the weekend with Maya.
“Hey Miles were home” Phoenix yelled across the corridor when he, Trucy, Maya, and their like 5 bags full of stuff came barging through the front door. Trucy sprinted through the house taking her shoes off at some point and hurled them back to the main entrance. She ran right into Miles in a big hug, Miles almost fell over at the impact Laughing a bit. “Hello Trucy, I see you had a good day at the park, I’m looking forward to hearing about it.” says Miles, a smile laid softly on his face. He looks up and sees Maya also coming up to him, saying something about her kidnapping Trucy for the weekend and giving him a knowing wink. Miles nods and mouths thank you, and Trucy drags Maya into her room to help her with packing.
Miles finally sees his sunshine walking up to him, yet he looks extremely funny, a big grin plastered on his face, a star sticker on his cheek, dragon horns on his head. And of course holding 5 big stuffed animals, almost blocking his whole frame. Miles can’t not let out a little laugh when he sees Wright. He walks up to him, levitates some of the plushies off Phoenix with his wand, and gives Phoenix a peck on the cheek. “Hello Phoenix” he grins, “I see you had fun, I hope all of this,” gesturing to all the stuff they bought, “is bought with your money and not our shared account”. Phoenix gives him a look that translates to come on have some faith in me will you. “You know I can't say no to her, you would have done the same” he says smiling, giving Miles a peck in return. “Oh and I allowed Trucy to stay with Maya, they were having so much fun.” he smiles, putting the bags down to pack out later.
“When was our reservation for? I wanna know if i should start running to get changed”. Miles smiles “it’s at 18:00 so you have about 2 and a half hours to get ready, I'm not ready myself, so don't worry. Though i will need to show you something once the girls are out of the house" Miles starts walking into the kitchen where a cup of tea was placed. Now Phoenix wasn't stupid, and he knew a surprise was waiting for him, he was also aware that Miles didn't smell completely like himself, he had an almost lingering wood smell to him, the one that old shops have, a smell that shows fine aging. And Phoenix knew precisely where Miles had been. Miles had gone to his tailor, the one he also took Phoenix to, to give him a new suit when he became a teacher. Phoenix didn't mention it, figuring it would be best to keep it to himself.
After the girls had packed, they went off to Maya's place via the fireplace. The house seemed awfully quiet at that point. The sound of metal could be heard, gently clingy. It was a common sound now. Even though Phoenix had given Miles multiple fidget toys, talking about how muggles often used them, Miles always resorts to his chains, or a hairband if the situation called to be completely silent. Phoenix had gotten used to the sound years ago, it had also become an audible cue as to Miles’ state of mind. Even if Phoenix could read Miles incredibly well, it was an indicator he had come to use. It was slow rhythmic sounds that came from the chain, so Phoenix wasn't bothered.
“So what was it that you wanted to show me?” asked Phoenix, holding a mug of coffee in one hand, slowly intertwining the other hand with Miles' fidgeting left hand, Miles accepted the hand and said “right, it’s in the bedroom”. “The bedroom huh?I thought we would have dinner soon, are you sure?” Phoenix said, knowing that wasn’t what Miles meant but still teasing. Miles stopped holding Phoenix's hand and instead raised it and hit him on the back of the head with his hand. “Wright…” a blush appeared on his face “you… you're a fool sometimes”. “Yeah but you love me” answered Phoenix, rubbing his neck, taking out his wand and sending their cups into the kitchen, meanwhile holding miles tight, and grinning like a dork. Miles sighed “yes yes i do. Even if you are a corny man Wright”. Miles got out of Phoenix’s grip and walked into their shared bedroom, turned on the light and found the new suit for Phoenix. Miles handed it to him, a blush appearing on his ears, trying to sound as confident as normal and said. “Since we are going out, I thought you might want a new suit…i hope it is to your satisfaction, its a panton royal blue color… and… I also have a gold chain to go along with it… like the one you already have… I hope you like it!” With the last sentence he almost shoved it into Wright, not looking him in the eyes. “Jeeez Miles, I… I.. thank you genuinely. I don't know what to say, you know you didn't have too, but I'm glad you did, and I'm glad you put in so much effort. I know I will love it. Thank you.” Phoenix walked over, placing the suit on the bed, and hugging miles. Miles was tense, yet Phoenix knew it wasn't because Miles didn't like the hug, that was just Miles being Miles, the Miles he loved.
Of course the suit fit him amazingly, It was composed of 3 main layers and a long coat meant for the outdoors. The first layer was a white dress shirt. It was light and breathable, and sat just right on Phoenix. On the underside of the right cuff was Phoenix's initials, embroidered in blue and some gold. It wasn't visible to anyone but the one who put it on. The next layer was something he had only just started wearing often, a vest. This was a light dusty blue one, again made of breathable material, yet it was meant to be tight and fitting. But it felt nice, it was just tight enough to do what it needed to do, but not tight enough to be uncomfortable. Phoenix was completely taken aback by how much thought Miles had put into this. His heart was fluttering when Miles helped him put on the third layer. The suit itself was incredibly soft. It didn't wrinkle easily, was easy to move in, and had that beautiful deep purplish blue. When Miles stood back to admire the suit he felt a rush of pride. The blue was perfect. It made phoenix skin stand out, and it made him look mature. He smiled, walked back towards his boyfriend. Grabbed his waist and pulled him closer. He took his hands off him keeping their distance close. He tied his boyfriend's tie, it was a light dusty red that paired well with his vest, again like the dress shirt, the tie was embroidered with his initials on the back side. He took out Phoenix’s gryffindor pin and put it on the notch of Phoenix's suit. Miles took out the gold chain he had bought and hung the chain from his suit pocket and attached it to one of his buttonholes.
One thing that made the chain stand out, was that at the end of the chain, hung a small ruby encased in gold, and the other end had a sapphire hanging, yet like the embroidery, it was hidden just out of sight of onlookers. Phoenix was a bit confused until Miles pulled out another matching one “... I thought it would be nice. To have a piece of jewelry that we share… “ said Miles. Clearly nervous as to Phoenix's reaction to the gift. “I love it, Miles. Thank you, it's amazing, i feel amazing and i feel warm with the knowledge that you know me so well as to be able to find something that fits me so perfectly” he smiled softly, taking Miles’ hand into his own, starting to puff out a small laugh “You talk about me spoiling Trucy, but here you are spoiling me with literal gold. I love you miles”. Miles goes completely red in the face and starts stammering “I-It's different, Trucy gets a lot of things, but I…I don't spoil you. I-I’m going to go get dressed too”. Miles turned around and started finding his own new suit, with a similar cut to Phoenix’s, with some exceptions.
Miles had bulkier cuffs, with gold buttons, this was done mostly to hide miles movements when he was fidgeting, or when making small movements with his wrist for spells. Another difference was of course his cravat. It’s a simple neck piece that Miles always wore with his suits. Another sensory helper, as he always wore something around his neck. If it wasn't one of his cravats, it was a turtleneck, or when sleeping, a neck warmer. No matter the temperature, it was simply a must. Another big difference was his own vest. While Phoenix's was a lighter shade than his suit, Miles had a black vest that made his white cravat and gold buttons pop. His suit was much longer than Phoenix's. Functioning more as a coat to some degree. It went down to his knees and was black on the inside, matching his vest. Although Miles preferred not to wear many accessories, he wanted to match Phoenix, so he too took the golden chain, yet before he was able to put it in as he did with Wright’s, namely with the ruby in the suit pocket, stopped Phoenix him, taking the chain and turning it around, having the sapphire instead, nestled in his breast pocket. “If you get to put your signature color close to my heart, I get to do the same” said Phoenix as he took Miles by the shoulders, and stretched his arms so he could get a good look at his Miles. He looked stunning, his grey hair perfectly styled save for one strand, which Phoenix slowly put in place. They just stood there, just living in the silent comfort of each other. Admiring each other. Miles was the first to break the silence, he looked down at his watch on his right hand, it was already 17:45.
The dinner was amazing. It was a very fancy and expensive muggle restaurant. Gumshoe had introduced Miles to it some years ago. Explaining that he had always wanted to go, but simply lacked the money to go, when Miles invited him to help him find a ring, Gumshoe brought it up again. Miles , the ever traditionalist, wasn't keen on going to a muggle restaurant, especially not on such an important day, especially not with Phoenix. But he also did want the best for Phoenix. So he instead decided to test the waters, he brought it up some months before, and phoenix basically had a brain melt. Turns out, Phoenix had known about this restaurant for many many years. First seeing it in an old commercial that was stuck on a sesame street disk his mother had, as well as being a lyric to one of his favorite songs. and he was fighting Himself to not just yell “HELL YA" at the very top of his lungs. For 1 to not sound like an absolute mad man, and 2 to spare his partner's ears. Yet his extreme enthusiasm was not missed by miles. ThoughThough he doubts that anyone could miss it.
The restaurant to no one's surprise was “the Ritz” set in London. The place being a part of a famous song as miles found out. A love song even. Tho this was not discovered by miles until he and Phoenix had their entré. Phoenix mentioned it in passing and how amazed he was that “the extreme traditionalist Miles Edgeworth would go to a muggle restaurant". Miles huffed, “well you seemed overjoyed at the idea, and it is a fine establishment”. It was now Pheonix turn to laugh a little. Oh merlin did he love that man. Phoenix was not sure what deity He had in his favor, he did not deserve the brilliant man sitting in front of him. With his ridicules cravat, his annoying passes at phoenix teaching Methods, his brilliant mind that can learn all spells, how he acts around their daughter, how loving and caring he is, how he dug himself Tooth and nail out of the grave von karma had placed him in. Phoenix was not only madly in love, he was proud. He was proud of the man sitting before him. Miles was sitting, his glasses on the bridge of his nose as he for the fourth time looked over the wine menu. Phoenix used this to study his partner, even though he had done so many many times before, Phoenix seemed to always find something new to see in the man. His hair, his eyelashes, his hand, even his very ridiculous cravat. It was all beautiful, it was all Miles. Miles looked up over his glasses to see a very intense stare From his partner. Eyes furrowed yet baring a smile on his lips. His chin resting on his hands, and the gold details on his suit shining as bright as his eyes in the candelight. “Wright is there something on my face, if so kindly tell me instead of staring me down”. Phoenix, who was thrown out of his trance, says “huh. Oh .what. oh no nononono there's nothing on your face don't worry, you just look so bea…”. “Pheonix were in public at least keep it down” Mikes said blushing shyly, happy he wore Some foundation to hide the blush from people. Well except for Phoenix, but he never expected anything he did to go over his head… well maybe logic and self preservation. Phoenix took Miles' hand on his own, and smiled "I'm sorry it's just hard to not admire you. you know that, and even so no one should know us here, if they even notice us. Don't stress, calm down and enjoy the time we spend together”. Whatever more phoenix might have said was tossed in the back of Miles head as he looked down at their hands. Laid on the table intertwined, looking empty, thought miles, and remembered the box that sat in his suit pocket, waiting. Miles smiled fondly as he went to caress Phoenix's ring finger, right where the ring would go. Their thoughts were interrupted when their main dishes arrived. And miles showed phoenix which knife it was time to use. Miles had gotten a Dorset crab and Phoenix a Pea Velouté which consisted of smoked bacon and some fancy Italian cheese phoenix had never heard of. The dinner went smoothly, they ate, chatted, and Phoenix even managed to get a good laugh out of miles. They talked for hours. And even got dessert. Phoenix had to call the waiter for the check tho, He was scared that Miles was gonna get tipsy from the amount of red wine he had gotten. Miles paid, as normally, and as normally to the annoyment of Phoenix. He lightly moped around for a few minutes, saying he was inadequate and that Miles couldn't keep paying for anything “Miles seriously, you can't keep paying for me, I am a grown man, I have my own salary, like let me treat you to something”. “Allthough that might be true,"Miles said "I like paying. And you do deserve it, besides, we both know you spent almost all your money on Trucy. You could never bring us to such a place. Which I don't mind and don't expect from you, and is why I pay for these types of evenings.”. Phoenix Goes in for a shoulder push at that, laughing meanwhile. “meanie. Well where Are we headed? You mentioned we had a second stop tonight”. “Yes, I indeed have something planned, just follow me,” said Miles, grabbing Phoenix's hand a bit more tightly as he hurried his step, turning to him to give him a smile. Probably one of the biggest, most genuine smiles Phoenix have ever seen. It seemed to have begun to snow.
It was dark outside. Miles was grateful to Godot and gumshoe. They had done a fantastic job. The balcony was tidied up, lights had been hung up, a table placed to the side with a candle in the middle. And even more perfect was the weather, it was lightly snowing, and the stars could be seen further out. Like the universe wanted this moment to be perfect "wow miles, I had not expected you to bring us to work, like i know were work-aholics But like damm” said phoenix, but miles was not blind, phoenix eyes were glinting, perfectly reflecting the light's shine. “Well I just thought we could enjoy the view, it's rare we get to appreciate the school's surroundings” said Miles, waiting behind as Phoenix went to lean over the railing like he had done all those years ago. Staring up at the sky, seeing the stars. The snow was slowly falling too, making miles' heart skip a beat as phoenix spikes slowly started looking like mountains again. Miles huffed a bit. But he did start panicking a bit. While yes he knew Phoenix loved him, he was scared that maybe he wasn't ready, it was somewhat Early in their relationship. They had officially been dating for 3 years, and so much had happened in that time, Phoenix had only been a teacher for a year now. Was he as ready as miles was? was he being too pushy. Would Phoenix say no? Oh no what if he said no. Would this ruin everything? He couldn't live without Phoenix Wright. He barely survived the years that phoenix Was gone for. He barely survived the years he himself was gone for. What about trucy, if pheonix said no he would lose her too. A familiar hand came to hold his own. The chain was again ripped out. And Phoenix was looking at him. “Hey” said Phoenix with a gentle smile. “Dont panic on me allright”. Miles looked up to gaze into the heterochromic eyes, suddenly gaining a boost of courage, it was now or never, he couldn't wait, he needed to believe in Phoenix to say yes, he needed to believe in himself, that he was good enough for phoenix.
Miles dropped Phoenix's hand gently. giving him a confident smile full of warmth. Taking a deep breath. He got down on one knee “Pheonix Wright….i…..i am not good with words. So I'm gonna go straight to the point.” Miles took another deep breath and took out the box, and opened it with shaky hands. Phoenix's breath catches but before he can do anything Miles talks up “will you marry me Phoenix Wright. I love you”. Miles looks up with unexpected eyes. Only for Phoenix to fall to his knees and hug miles. Hug him extremely tight. So tight miles become scared he might snap in two. It takes some time before phoenix lets go of the embrace. Eyes watery but no tears have fallen yet. He cups miles face, closing the distance between them. Just before they meet he whispers “yes Miles oh yes” before finally kissing the stunned Man in front of him. The first tear falls then. Not from Phoenix but from miles. It's the only one. And it's full of relief and joy. Phoenix also lets the floodgates open, but as with everything else, phoenix is much more dramatic, his face is red when they part. Miles kisses him on the cheek, before taking his lover's hand. Shaking immensely, almost being unable to take the ring, slowly he slots it on the phoenix left ring finger. Phoenix being fast takes the other ring and does the same. Lift the hand to place a kiss on it.
They're standing on the balcony. Just looking out into the night. The snow stopped a while ago. And in its wake is the clearest crystal Sky. The lights around them make the 2 rings of gold shine. They are almost identical. Both are sleek Gold ring bands. Nothing fancy, like they prefer. Yet it's on the inside that they divert. In Phoenix it reads “P.W-my love, my light, my home”. in miles it reads “M.E-my love, my angel, my heart, my life” now this line was a surprise to miles, it was maya who had gone to order the rings, as she wanted Phoenix's line to be a surprise. Maya had, in accordance with miles, asked Phoenix “Hey Nick, describe miles in 4 words, as sappy as you can pls”. Miles was dumbfounded at the last Line tho “my life” Oh merlin he panicked over nothing. Phoenix loved him just as much, if not more, than he did. Phoenix Realized Miles was looking at the ring “You know, I kinda guessed you were gonna propose the moment we came here, but now, I was still surprised by it all. You outdid yourself miles. You have changed yet again.” he lets his words hang for a bit “you look like your dad. You're an Edgeworth, and so am I now.” He says this as he goes in for a kiss that destroys Any doubts that might have plagued his, now fiances, busy busy mind.
