Work Text:
The busiest rush had gone through, leaving three workers breathing heavily like their lives depended on it; Slingshot stretched at the backroom before he emerged with a feigned smile--that signature smile that greeted everyone who came in his cafe--Thieves' Rest. And oh, did his expression soured at the sight of this nuisance that kept appearing at the cafe just to annoying him.
"Hey, Kitten." Coil winked at the cafe owner in front of her, mischievous grin playing on her lips, also, Skateboard's here! And unfortunately the one to pay for he and Coil's food. His greeting smile faltered, the soft expression threatening to scrunch to sourness; "How... May I assist you with?..." Voice steady, an attempt to avoid the shaking or rage, attempting to keep the professional tone.
"Hm..." She stalled for a while, staring at the menu--stealing a few glances at the pissed worker. "Any idea?... Yet?" The slanted eyes opening out of hostility. "Yeah, I'll have an Iced Latte and that Cat Cupcake." Pointing at the cupcake that looked like Slingshot himself--Yes, Vine' and Shuri' have their own little cupcakes themed of their own. "For the other?" He turned to the red-horned inphernal.
"Oh! Uh, yeah, Hot Chocolate and the croissant; Thanks, man!" Tone joyous before he handed Coil some cash for the payment.
Coil's attention was divided by Slingshot's work and Skateboard trying to get rent money out of her. "Dude, you gotta start paying rent with me, the apartments in Craterdust' lowkey expensive." He begged, taking a bite out of the heated croissant--buttery and flaky... In fact, earlier, Skate' drooled at the thought of the croissant and hot chocolate, especially when the mysterious 7th SFoTH Deity started setting their preferences upon Inpherno.
"Inpherno to Coil." Skate' waves his hand in front of Coil, trying to grab her attention, but it didn't really work.
Slingshot leaned on the counter, body weakening as the night went by. A Helmeted Blackrockian stood in front of the counter--across Slingshot, silently asking for a photo; The Man is in fact in a kitty onesie. Holding his big cat with a blue collar. The 2nd last customer had finally left, now... he just needed to wait for Coil and Skateboard to finish so he can close.
She noticed that Slingshot leaned against a wall, tears welling up out of exhaustion, "Something's wrong" Coil muttered to her roommate across her seat, "You go back to our apartment-"; "My apartment."; "Whatever, get this to be takeout."
"Yo, dude." Her voice snapped the owner out of his breakdown; Wiping his tears, Slingshot stood straight, having to put up a stupid smile just to appeal others, "Come on, go close, we'll takeout."
"Coil..."
"I still have to clean before I actually lock up the cafe." His smile faltered to a frown as he wrapped up he and Coil's order. "I'll wait, my shoes are dirty, I can't help." She spoke softly, though the last few parts made Slingshot's expression changed to feigned annoyance--rolling his eyes in response,
"Mhm... Yeah."
