One day, Monster Kid was walking down the area of Waterfall, hoping to maybe...possibly...come across the strongest and awesomest fish warrior ever, Undyne! They'd seen her come here a few times, so this must be where she hangs out often!
They were just about about to take another turn to reach the alley where Undyne must've gone when they saw something...or someone...from the corner of his eye. They turned their head to see a translucent figure in the distance. Was that...a real actual GHOST??! They've only been in Waterfall a few times before, in fact...they haven't really been anywhere other than Snowdin...therefore they haven't ever seen something like that before! Makes sense though...because ghosts are monsters too, right? But they've only heard of them in fairytales!
Monster Kid decided to start approaching the figure, they could go see Undyne another time. They slowed their pace a bit so they wouldn't scare the ghost away...
Wait...weren't ghosts the ones who were supossed to scare others? Well, it's still good to take no risks! The ghost seemed to be a bit quiet, taking no action in moving anywhere or interacting with other monsters that were walking around the humid streets of Waterfall. But if Monster Kid was patient enough, they might even be making a new friend!
The ghost that was slowly coming more into view as Monster Kid was getting closer to them, looked about how you would imagine a ghost would look like. They kind of looked like a translucent pillowcase with round edges and a face! Not a happy face, though. Their black eyes with white pupils looked almost empty, even looking from a fairly long distance. The ghost was floating around idly close to the other alley, where Monster Kid could assume were more houses. Finally, Monster Kid reached the ghost, who had seemed to notice them by now, and greeted them, trying to keep their excitment in check despite their tail wagging behind them ever so slightly.
"Hi! I noticed you looked kinda lonely. I've never met a ghost before! You look really cool, like a translucent marshmallow!" Monster Kid said enthusiastically but not too overwhelmingly energetically.
The ghost seemed surprised by the sudden approach and compliment. They looked at the enthusiastic Monster Kid, their gaze not as sad as before, though there was still a hint of melancholy that might've been just an unremovable part of their ghostly vibe.
"Oooh....um.......thank you........I think......" the ghost said, their voice soft and quiet. They didn't know what else to say so they just stayed silent, waiting for Monster Kid to continue.
"Yeah! No problem, dude! I'm Monster Kid by the way! I came here to see Undyne, but...I can just look for her later!" Monster Kid exclaimed. "What's your name? Is it something spooky, like....hmmm..." they seemed to think of a name that would suit the ghost, but they couldn't quite think of any.
"My name is Napstablook........is that spooky enough......?" they asked.
"Ohh yeah! That's really a really spooky name!" Monster Kid giggled. "Um...I noticed you looked a little sad...are you okay?" they asked, their voice now slightly more worried.
Napstablook sighed softly. "Oh.....I......really wouldn't want to bother you with anything.....but...." they mumbled, but seeing the worry in Monster Kid's expression, the decided to continue. "It's nothing much.....I just....my cousins have been really busy lately.....and it's getting kind of lonely......." they muttered, their gaze turning slightly sadder again.
"Oh..." Monster Kid replied, their expression softening with understanding. "Wellllll.....I hang around here at times, so....we could hang out together sometimes! We could even invite Undyne with us to our hangouts! Wouldn't that be epic??? Then you wouldn't have to be alone anymore all the time and I get to spend time with the coolest ghost AND the coolest fish warrior in the whole Underground!!!" Monster Kid exclaimed, their expression turning to pure enthusiasm once again.
A small smile appeared on Napstablooks face. "That does sound nice........." they said with a soft chuckle.
"Yeahhh!! So what are we waiting for! Let's go get Undyne and go hang out somewhere! We could go to my place, but I'll have to ask my parents first." Monster Kid said, their tail starting to wag once again.
"We shall go then........." Napstablook exclaimed as the two started making their way to the alley where Monster Kid was headed to in the first place.
Undyne agreed to come and they all spent a nice day in the areas of snowdin.
