Chapter Text
What does a person do when getting married to someone they don’t love?
To someone they never met?
It is the end of summer, the sun has started setting earlier and the mornings have a chill to them.
Oh, how you wish it wasn’t you in that situation. But the mirror in front of you isn’t an illusion as you stare at your wedding dress.
You have been sacrificed to an arranged marriage for your parents’ pleasure. All you know about your future husband is his name, age, and how wealthy he is. Which is the reason you’re here in the first place.
The tears don’t get to fall before you’re waiting for the music to start playing. You stare at the entrance to your fate, wishing you would’ve been a bit braver, stubborn, to have run while it was possible. But you can’t run now.
The door opens and light pools in, music louder than you’d like. You start walking before your eyes adjust, feeling all the eyes on you.
Anxiety settles in and your face is glued on the rug. You must look foolish. What kind of a person looks at the ground while getting married?
Only when you stop in front of your soon-to-be husband on the altar, does your head lift carefully. The officiant’s words are lost on you as you take in Ratio’s face. His pale complexion is smooth, perfect, almost like a vampire’s. His indigo hair is slicked back, letting you see all of his face.
He isn’t looking at you, but when his eyes set on the officiant, you see how unique they look. Golden? Red? Honestly, you’ve never seen such eyes. As if he felt you staring, his eyes snap to yours and you mentally joint.
You just stare at each other for a while.
His gaze is piercing. You haven’t got anyone look at you so deeply in a long time. The yellow of his iris sparkles in the light, heat creeps up your cheeks and you can’t help but look away.
You must be dreaming. Why is such a handsome fella getting married to you? Surely, he must have had a lover by now.
What profit does he get out of this? Did he perhaps decide to marry you out of pity? But why would he ruin his life like this out of pity? He doesn’t look stupid, he must have a good reason. But what reason could be good enough to marry a stranger?
You snap out of your overthinking when a man hands you your rings. You two make eye contact again and he gives you a faint nod, as if trying to assure you it’s fine. The officiant gives the commands and you exchange rings, carefully slipping it onto his ring finger.
As you’re pronounced husband and wife, you can’t help the dreadful pit in your stomach. You’re holding hands with your man, the man you just met for the first time, already getting married.
You lean in for the sealing kiss, closing your eyes when your lips touch. You can only hope he doesn’t notice the tremble in your hands.
