Medix knew his overly critical approach to correcting mistakes got on other’s nerves but he couldn’t help it. The blatant disregard of even attempting to properly use equipment correctly or even research its history beforehand got to him. So it wasn’t much of a surprise when he over heard to newest batch of recruits complaining about him. He wanted to just ignore it because in all fairness he could be nitpicky but still their words stung. He headed over to the staff offices to find his mentor. Inside Blades’ office was a bunch of boxes, one was opened on his desk and had several vials of liquid in it.
“Hello Medix,” voice comes from behind him making Medix jump slightly.
“Professor Blades! Hello.” The white and orange helibot walked over. “What are these for?” Medix points at the box.
“Those are some antidotes for various types of venom I have to deliver to some hospitals. Though did you need something else? I hardly doubt your here just for the medicine.”
“I was looking for you,” Medix looks at the floor. “The newer recruits aren’t happy with me, I just wanted to help.” Blades seemed to understand immediately and crouched down to Medix’s level.
“I see, how about you help me out wth something?” That got Medix’s attention and he looked up. “After I get this medicine where its needed would you like to go to China and help me cure some bats of some parasites and other diseases?” Medix’s optic lit up, he loved bats almost as much as he loved bandages. Almost. When he was caring for Mr. Flappy Blades had discovered him before his fellow recruits had, which ended up with Medix learning about Blades fear of bats.However he did help Medix take care of Mr Flappy’s injury. (Blades had also made it clear he wouldn’t report this to Heatwave and that having bats in the medbay was an entirely Heatwave problem to deal with.)
“Yes! I mean yes mentor Blades, I would like to help.”
“Alright then, meet me at the ground bridge around noon.”
~~~
Around midday Medix stood near the groundbridge waiting for his mentor. The bridge activates, causing swirling green light to form a kind of portal that Blades appears out of.
“Greetings Medix, ready to go?” Medix nods. “Good, we will make a quick stop at my team’s base in Faxian and then we will head inland.” Blades leads Medix through the groundbridge and into busy city. The sky had flying cars and the streets full of humans. Before Medix could transform into his alt mode Blades assures him people here know about Cybertronians. And as the groundbridge closes behind them Blades leads him through the city over near the docks. Inside one of the warehouses that contained some Cybertronian equipment, however it was mostly the basic necessities for a group of Rescue Bots compared to the stuff at the Academy.
Blades picked up some containers of medicine and walked back over to Medix. “We will return here to recharge when the bats are out hunting and return during the day.” The two medical bots then made their way inland using their helicopter modes. Once they had made it to the tropical forests they transformed back to bot mode to start looking for a colony to help. Soon finding one in a cave. While Blades marked the cave’s coordinates down so they could return to it later Medix was already examining the sleeping bats for sick ones to help. Making sure not to disturb their rest while he did so. However something unexpected happened, Medix’s frame suddenly transformed but not into a muscle car nor a helicopter. A bat like the one’s infront of him. His optics didn’t take in light well anymore and everything around him was blurry.
“Blades?” Medix sounded panicked and unsure which made Blades immediately rush over to him and see his new alt mode.
“Are you okay? What happened?” Looking over his mentee for anything wrong he found none. “Can you transform back to root mode?” Medix did and his optics were back to normal seeing everything crystal clearly as humans say.
“I don’t know, I was just scanning them for parasites and… I think I accidentally scanned it as an alt mode. I didn’t think that was possible.”
“Nor did I, your multi-cog would allow that I guess but that’s not how it worked for Hotshot was it? Neither was it how me and the others scanned out third modes.”
“You’re a triple changer too?! When? What’s your third mode?” Medix looked confused. Before getting a multi-cog of his own Hotshot was the only multi-changer he knew.
“Yes? Didn’t Heatwave tell you? Or Ratchet? Well long story short I can turn into a pterosaur, but I don’t like using it much.
“Really? So you can fly similarly to how a bat flies?” Blades nodded. “Can you help me get used to flying like that?
“Of course, we can do it at night instead of flying back to Faxian.”
For the remainder of the daylight hours the two carefully treated any sick bats they found and left right as the sun started to dip below the horizon. Blades transforming first into a creature that didn’t resemble just one specific species of pterosaur but quite a few. Medix followed suit and took to the skies first with his mentor flying close by to catch him if he falls. Medix had to use echolocation to see around him which at first he found annoying but he quickly became accustomed to it. As Medix was beginning to get better at flying, he noticed how different it was to being a rotary. Having to keep flapping his wings to stay in the air instead of his rotors keeping him airborne. He could also glide now which freaked Blades out when Medic suddenly dropped down which caused Blades to have to navigate between the trees and back above their tops.
As the sun began to rise they both landed and set out for a new bat colony to help and at night they did flight training. Nearing the end of the week Medix was exhausted, he’d never been awake this long before due to how Heatwave ran the academy. Having the recruits recharge cycles be similar to humans. However he supposed being older and more active in the field Blades didn’t rest as often. So when they returned to Faxian Medix immediately found a place to recharge while Blades checked with his team.
When Medix returned to the academy he immediately went to his team and told them about his week. Seeing his mentee happily talking with his friends made Blades smile fondly. They’ll be great rescue bots soon.
