Q: We might start with you, Max. It was recently announced that you are going to retire at the end of the season, alongside your husband Charles. What influenced you to make that decision, or maybe both of you?
VERSTAPPEN: Well I actually decided that I was going to retire first (laughs). I sort of just decided out of the blue, you know, we have Pippa who is growing up and I want to be able to watch her grow up instead of flying around the world all of the time.
LECLERC: He said it so randomly that Pippa thought he had gotten a concussion.
VERSTAPPEN: I have been talking about retiring for a while now, so maybe it isn't so sudden.
PÉREZ: You have been talking about retiring for a decade!
Q: Charles, how did you take the news? You have also decided to retire at the conclusion of the season, but was there any specific reason that you both decided to do it?
LECLERC: I think we are both getting old, you know. I know we are not the only ones, but we have both been driving in Formula 1 for a long time, and Max has five championships, I have one - hopefully a second this year - and sometimes I think it would be nice to just be able to relax at home with our family.
VERSTAPPEN: He only decided to after I had decided to retire. And then Checo also decided to retire.
LECLERC: You are a trendsetter, I think is the right word.
Q: Yes, Checo, any additional comments?
PÉREZ: I think after having the year off in 2025, my comeback has not been as easy as I hoped it would. Of course, I know that it is because Cadillac was a brand new team, and 2026 was a learning year for the team, but it has been quite difficult to come to terms with it. I had already decided that this year would be my last in March though!
LECLERC: Pippa was devastated hearing the news.
PÉREZ: Yes, Max sent me a photo of her crying. But now I am her manager, so she won't be getting rid of me!
Q: You are Pippa's manager?
PÉREZ: Yes, for her karting career, at least. She asked me about it before she started properly and at first I said no, but then I decided that I had nothing to lose, so I said yes. She is very happy about it.
VERSTAPPEN: There is a Checo shrine in her room. She has photos of every podium and win you have in the shrine.

neither cadillac driver are retiring at the end of this season, whereas mclaren driver alastor devine is making the switch to indycar. my guess is that pippa just signed with the team that had the seat open rather than waiting for cadillac to have a seat for her in a couple years time (because let's be real - wyatt greenhurst is going to retire sooner rather than later).

LAP BY LAP - 2039 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX

Overview
- Elias Carson starts on pole for Red Bull, but championship leader and teammate Marcus Connor starts in P19 after a shock qualifying
- Dillon Matthews for McLaren has his first front row start in P2
- Shock qualifying saw Marcus Connor, Anthoine Jean-Paul, Wyatt Greenhurst, Kimi Antonelli, Camille Bradley and Andre Hopko all get eliminated in Q1
Calm before the storm
Dillon Matthews had an amazing qualifying session yesterday, being only a couple of tenths off of the Red Bull rocketship of Elias Carson. He has his first front row start of his career, something that we're sure he's very excited about. His teammate, Pippa Piastri, had a tricky qualifying, but still managed to qualify in P5.
Mercy Cournane rounds out the top 3 for qualifying for Cadillac, and Ollie Bearman for Ferrari joins her in the second row, starting from P4. Alongside Piastri, an impressive qualifying for Callum Garmaz starting in P6 - he'll be trying to get his first points since Zandvoort 2038. The fourth row is locked out by both Haas drivers, with Louis Sharp P7 and Tristan Jacobs P8. The top 10 is rounded out by Meg Hogan and Samuel Deans.
Just being pipped to the line by his teammate, Nicola Lacorte starts P11, next to Ihyan Taganas from Aston Martin. Behind them is Georgia Mackintosh in P13, and the other half of Aston Martin with Jonus Andersen. RB locks out P15 and P16, with Brando Badoer taking the place ahead of teammate Antonio Javier. Both Mercedes had an awful qualifying, not getting out in time to put in some good laps. Kimi Antonelli is ahead of Camille Bradley, but they are followed close behind by Marcus Connor and the Ferrari of Andre Hopko.
Anthoine Jean-Paul and Wyatt Greenhurst bring up the rear of the grid, with Greenhurst having engine issues and only being able to put in a couple of laps during qualifying yesterday.
Bad to worse for Greenhurst
It gets even worse for Greenhurst, who will not be starting this race. Cadillac has just confirmed that his engine has blown up, and they do not have time to fix it before the race starts. His grid spot will be left empty, but it doesn't matter, as he was starting P22. Cadillac needs to hope that Cournane will get the team some good points to make up for Greenhurst's disaster.
Lights out!
LAP 1/44
We hit lights out, and the cars are immediately head off, and there's a tussle between Lacorte and Taganas as they get off the line, with Lacorte going off track but keeping it out of the barriers. That one might get investigated later, but we'll keep you posted…

Antonelli making moves

Antonelli is already up to P10, having made some great overtakes over the last few laps. And as mentioned earlier, there is no further investigation for the tussle between Taganas and Lacorte that saw Lacorte go off track. Lacorte is not happy about the Aston Martin driver not getting a penalty.
PIT: So no further investigation for the incident in lap 1.
LAC: That's [BLEEP]. He forced me off! How is there not a penalty?
PIT: Stewards are calling it a lap 1 incident. No penalty.

Mercedes mark the first of our pit stoppers, with Antonelli diving into the pits. He's followed closely by Cournane, Carson and Piastri, with the Red Bull driver making sure that he stays ahead of the McLaren of Matthews. His teammate is informed about the pit stop and is told to pit in the next lap.

Jean-Paul is making moves, already up to P7. If you remember, he started from P21 after a shock qualifying. At the rate he's going, he might even be in contention for a podium.

There's a battle for P3 between Piastri and Antonelli, and Piastri isn't happy about Antonelli's defence.

Matthews has finally made the move on Carson, and it's stuck! Matthews is in the lead, with Carson right behind in P2. Matthews' teammate Piastri is in P4 behind Antonelli, but she manages to overtake him, slotting into P3. Antonelli is still under investigation for that incident with the McLaren driver a few laps back, so we will be waiting to see the verdict on that.
5 SECOND PENALTY FOR CAR 12 (ANT): DRIVING ERRATICALLY

LAP 41/44
Antonelli gets a 5 second time penalty for that incident with Piastri a few laps ago. That will get added to his time at the end of the race. Jean-Paul and Cournane are both told by their engineers to drive faster, as they're within that 5 seconds of Antonelli. Antonelli is sitting in fourth, but will drop down to sixth after his penalty is applied, assuming the order stays the same.
Matthews wins!
LAP 44/44
Matthews gets the win here in Belgium, with teammate Piastri making it a 1-2 for the team and a maiden podium for her career - an impressive feat considering she is four races in to her F1 debut. Carson rounds out the top 3, getting to the line just four tenths ahead of Jean-Paul, who had an amazing comeback from starting at the back of the grid.
The rest of the finishing positions
Fifth went to Mercy Cournane, who scored ten points for Cadillac. They'll be happy about that, seeing as experienced driver Wyatt Greenhurst wasn't able to start today. Sixth went to Kimi Antonelli for Mercedes after his five second penalty is applied. Marcus Connor finishes seventh for Red Bull, and his teammate's podium drops Connor from leading the Championship. Ferrari's Ollie Bearman finishes in eighth, and Alpine's Callum Garmaz comes home in ninth, getting his first points since Zandvoort last year. Mercedes' Camille Bradley wraps up our top ten finishers.
Behind them, the two Williams drivers of Meg Hogan and Georgia Mackintosh just miss out on the points. Antonio Javier of RB finishes P13, and is followed by Andre Hopko of Ferrari, who has had a horrible weekend. They're followed closely by Brando Badoer, Louis Sharp, Ihyan Taganas, Nicola Lacorte, Jonus Andersen, Tristan Jacobs, and Samuel Deans. Wyatt Greenhurst did not start the race.

Both Aston Martin drivers have been disqualified from the German Grand Prix for unsportsmanlike behaviour during the race. The FIA Stewards have found both Ihyan Taganas and Jonus Andersen at fault for the near collision during the German Grand Prix, after both drivers decided to sandwich McLaren driver Pippa Piastri. The pair of Aston Martin drivers have been disqualified, which moves Tristan Jacobs for Haas and Samuel Deans for Audi up into the points.

You and I would watch the races on TV anyways, but they'd text me after the races to talk about how it went. They'd send photos of what they saw, and they'd buy you gifts. They accommodated for you, and they put in the effort with me. When they had time, they'd come back to England and take me on a date.
PIPPA: They did a lot for me. I forgot that.
OSCAR: They loved you, Pip. You had them wrapped around your little finger.
PIPPA: They did a lot for you too. They put in the effort, even if they were on the other side of the world.
OSCAR: Yeah, they did. They'd call me after bad races too, even if it was late for them, or late for me, just to let me know that they were okay, especially if they'd crashed. And because you loved Checo so much, Max would call me if Checo had crashed, just so that you would know that Checo was okay too.
PIPPA: Oh yeah. Baku 2024 when Checo crashed into Carlos on the last lap. I remember now.
OSCAR: If this girl is worth it, Pip, then she'll put in the effort. But you have to put in the effort too.

i don't think they're dating, only because i think there would be more news stories about it. we know how much the media loves to speculate on driver relationships (see, max and charles 2024-2028, hamilton being called anything but a lover to rosberg, etc.) but the fact that there has been next to nothing about pippa's potential relationship makes me think that they're not dating, or at least not publicly dating.
