The Big Bad Wolf

Summary:

Rin stared at the werewolf dangling upside down from the tree with a deadpanned expression.

He should’ve just minded his own business.

Now he’s stuck with this guy, all the peace in his life gone. All because of one mistake.

OR;

Rin was given the task of giving his brother and his boyfriend cookies.

Yet now he’s entangled with a certain blue eyed werewolf who doesn’t look like he’s leaving him alone any time soon.

Chapter Text

Rin hummed softly whilst he was on the way to his brother’s house.

In his hand he was carrying a basket with freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, alongside some vanilla ones. The chocolate chip ones were for Sae’s boyfriend, Shidou, and the vanilla ones were for his brother.

His mother had baked them since she had the time, and had kindly asked Rin if he could give the baked goods to his brother and his boyfriend.

Normally Rin would’ve refused, since he didn’t want to see that pink eyed bug, but he had nothing else to do so he just agreed.

It wasn’t that bad, he guessed. He enjoyed walking, it helped take things off his mind.

The weather was nice too, not too hot but also not cold. The wind brushed against his face, blowing the hair in front of his face off to the side. The faint rustling of the trees could be heard, like some sort of melody.

The road was empty, they lived in a secluded spot away from civilisation. Rin liked, it was calm. There was a town nearby where they get their groceries from, every day necessities, and more. Everybody was nice here.

There was a big forest along the sides of the pathway, the same forest his mother had warned him about. Saying that there were creatures in there that could harm him.

Rin didn’t really care, to be honest, but he would never admit that to his dear mother. Otherwise she’d scold him for hours, saying that it was extremely dangerous. Rin didn’t mind whenever his mom scolded him or chastised him, it showed that she cared.

Rin’s mother was a pretty lady. Quiet, but kind. Everybody loved her, so whenever she shopped somewhere, she’d always get something extra.

Rin’s father on the other hand, wasn’t in town that often. He worked in the city for business, and to be able to provide for them. He only came home during the holidays. When he was home, he made up for all the time he was gone. He was a stoic man, often seen as cold, but he did have a heart.

Shidou was Sae’s boyfriend. At first, Rin didn’t like him at all. After all, that was his dear brother he was dating.

Over time, he realised that he actually wasn’t that bad. He would never say that to his face though, of course. The other would just tease him about it until the day he died.

He’d probably say, ‘Aw, Rinnie! I knew you loved me!’ and then hug him tightly. Rin shivered at the thought. Besides, he was good to Sae. He treated him well, so that’s that.

Rin continued walking down the pathway, getting lost in his head once again, the sound of his footsteps filling the silence.

In the middle of thinking about what he wanted to do after this, he was interrupted from his thoughts when he heard a loud sound coming from the woods.

It sounded like something or someone hitting the ground, and then the harsh sound of rope tightening, a curse following afterwards. Rin paused, staring into the forest with an unreadable expression.

Obviously, the right response to that would be ignoring it and continue walking, or running the opposite way back to his house.

Rin did none of that. He might die, honestly, but oh well. He was curious, and he had nothing to lose. Well, except if he did die, his brother would probably force him back to life just to yell at him.

Once Rin was curious, nothing and nobody could stop him. His feet started moving before his mind could catch up.

He cautiously stepped into the forest, the first time he’s ever laid a foot into it. He took a look at his surroundings

The view was beautiful. The place was practically untouched. Countless trees, animals, nature everywhere. It smelled nice too, Rin thought. Snapping out of his awe, he made his way to where he had heard the sound, slowly.

And that’s when he saw it, somebody dangling upside down from a tree trunk.

That’s not even the most surprising part, it had ears, and a fluffy tail. It seemed the being didn’t notice him yet, too frustrated and wiggling around like a worm.

“Are you fucking serious,” It breathed out, teeth gritted.

Rin stepped closer quietly, taking a closer look at the thing.

He concluded that it was a man, that being obvious once he scanned his face. Big blue eyes. Handsome, pretty cute, with bangs framing his face, a little sprout on his head.

Wait, cute? Rin mentally bonked himself on the head. Dumbass.

His eyes drifted to his lips, fangs being slightly visible. And if that didn’t make it obvious he wasn’t human, the big ears and tail would make up for it.

Interesting, a werewolf.

Rin wasn’t scared at all. The other practically looked like a big dog, and he obviously wasn’t very smart if he fell into the most obvious trap ever.

He had never believed the rumours of there being mythical animals in this same exact forest, he thought it was ridiculous. Rolling his eyes every time he heard terrified whispers whenever he was in town.

Looks like they weren’t crazy, huh.

He snapped out of his thoughts when his feet stepped on a stick, making a crunching sound. The wolf’s head immediately snapped up, alert, searching his surroundings until it landed on Rin.

Shit. Now there really was no way out of this situation.

Rin looked at the other curiously, noticing the werewolf’s narrowed eyes on him.

“Who are you?” The other asked, wiggling even more as he cussed under his breath.

“Nobody,” Rin answered, stepping closer until he was right in front of the wolf, noticing that the rope covered his arms too.

Isagi bared his fangs at that action, cautious. He knew the other boy was no threat to him, but he could never be too careful. Instead of being scared, Rin only tilted his head slightly to the side, unamused.

“Really?” Rin said in a flat voice, staring at him like he was stupid. Isagi frowned.

Why wasn’t he afraid?

His parents had always warned him about humans, telling him to never engage with them. Saying that they were awful beings. Of course, Isagi didn’t know what to think since he never met one before, but he just obeyed his parents without a thought.

Humans never entered the woods anyway, they were too scared. That didn’t mean he wasn’t curious, though.

He thought they were awful, so why isn’t the pretty human in front of him doing anything to him? He was only staring at Isagi with curiosity in his teal eyes.

Isagi’s brain glitched once he realised what he thought. Pretty? Don’t be silly, Isagi.

They both stared at each other, analysing the other, their eyes never breaking contact. Then, Rin huffed and reached into his pocket, grabbing the small blade he always carried around with him. Could never be too careful, he’d think.

Blue eyes immediately followed his movements, eyes sharpening once he saw the blade, wiggling even more.

He looks like a worm, Rin thought. Scoffing, Rin brought the blade to the rope around the werewolf’s arms.

“Relax, I’m not going to hurt you, idiot,” he muttered under his breath, cutting the rope carefully. Isagi blinked in surprise, shocked that the human was actually helping him.

Why? Why was he helping him? He didn’t know Isagi, why was he freeing him? Isagi was even more curious now.

After freeing the werewolf’s arms, he moved the blade upwards, not even warning the other as he snapped the rope tying his feet together in half.

Isagi fell to the ground with a thud, groaning at the hard fall and was about to glare at the human before noticing teal eyes staring at him. Isagi was laying on the ground, back on the floor and above him was Rin, eyes staring intensely at the other.

The human’s face was upside down, and he was bending over slightly while looking at the creature. Isagi blinked, cheeks slightly turning pink at the attention he was getting, suddenly feeling shy.

Damn it, why was he getting flustered?

“Why did you help me?” he said, not making an effort to stand up and instead kept the eye contact with the boy who was standing above him.

“None of your business,” Rin answered flatly, before straightening up and walking away.

Isagi laid on the ground with a stupid expression on his face, baffled by the other’s audacity before quickly standing up and turning around to stare at the human who was walking away calmly.

Is he stupid? He literally freed a werewolf that could easily tear him to shreds, yet here he was, walking off with his back turned to him. Isagi could easily grab him and rip his throat out, but he didn’t. He could, but he didn’t.

Why?

That was an easy question. It’s because Isagi didn’t feel the need to. The human didn’t do anything to him, in fact, he actually helped him. So why should he kill the same person who helped free him?

The other reason was that Isagi was actually curious about him. He was interesting, and he wasn’t scared of him. That was enough for him to let the other off the hook.

Isagi quickly followed the taller one, big eyes looking at the other’s back, his ears perking up in interest. “What’s your name?”

Rin looked back at him, turning his head slightly before looking back ahead. “You don’t need to know,” he answered simply, deadpanned.

Isagi frowned at that, why was he being so difficult? It’s not like he was asking for much. He just wanted to know the name of the same guy who freed him.

“But I want to know.” Isagi insisted, speeding up until he was behind Rin.

Rin didn’t answer, continuing to walk off. Isagi didn’t like that, eyebrows furrowing.

Why won’t he pay attention to me?

“Why did you help me?” Isagi asked, curiosity evident in his voice.

“Why are you following me?” the other shot back, irritation laced in his tone now. Why won’t this guy leave him alone already? He helped him, that was supposed to be the end of this.

“Because I want to know who you are,” Isagi answered with a shrug, completely honest.

Rin glanced back at him with a glare. “You don’t need to know, now leave me alone.” God, when was he going to get the much needed peace he needed? Maybe he should’ve left the werewolf hanging from the tree, if he was just going to follow him around like a lost puppy.

He was trying to be ruder than he normally was to get this weirdo to leave him alone, but it seemed to have the opposite effect.

“Nuh uh,” Isagi hummed, lips quirking upwards when he noticed the other boy get even more annoyed.

“You’re so annoying,” Rin muttered, trying to speed up his pace. Isagi sped up too, staring at the back of his head with curiosity in his blue eyes.

For fuck’s sake. Rin gritted his teeth in annoyance, eye twitching subtly. He thought he was being obvious. He wanted this guy to leave him alone.

Meanwhile, Isagi was having the time of his life. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt like this, like he was having fun. Isagi followed behind him, staring at Rin the entire time.

“I’m not leaving you alone until you answer at least one of my questions, y’know.” Isagi said, amused.

Rin felt his eye twitch even more prominently. He felt like killing the werewolf.

“Fine. What?” he finally relented, agitated at the dumb wolf. Isagi’s eyes lit up, smile widening and he walked faster until he was in sync with Rin, beside him. Rin side eyed him, he ignored it.

“Why did you help me? What’s your name?” Isagi asked, looking at Rin with big blue eyes, his eyebrows raised.

Rin glared at him before looking away, finally seeing the light to the exit of this cursed forest. About time. He glanced at the werewolf with an unamused look in his teal eyes.

“I just felt like it.” Which wasn’t a complete lie, if he was being honest.

He had also helped the other boy because he felt bad that he was stupid enough to fall into a cliche trap like that.

Isagi’s brows furrowed, pouting slightly, “you’re lying to me.” He stated like it was obvious, finally noticing the basket in Rin’s hand.

Huh. What’s that? It smelled delicious. Quickly snapping out of his thoughts, he shook his head, remembering he had other things to think of rather than the sweet smell coming from the basket.

Rin groaned in his head. Seriously? How the hell did he know that wasn’t the complete truth? Did werewolves have some sort of sixth sense or something?

“No, I’m not. How would you even know, dumbass.” He rolled his eyes, ignoring the stupid pout on the other’s lips.

Isagi ignored Rin insulting him, pointing at him, “I can tell! Now tell me the truth.” He demanded, not even knowing that pointing fingers at others was considered rude.

Rin felt his patience thinning before taking a deep breath to calm down. He should’ve never helped him. “For fucks sake—I felt bad, okay? There.” He snapped, giving in quite easily.

Isagi blinked at him with a dumb look, before smirking slightly. His ears twitched subtly, tail wagging behind him. Rin felt like punching him.

“You felt bad? For me? For a werewolf?” Isagi teased lightly, tilting his head while looking at Rin with a playful smile.

Why was he acting like this? It’s like his mouth was moving before his head even caught up. Why was it so easy to talk to the human like this?

“Shut up,” Rin muttered, quickening his steps. All the patience he had left vanished in thin air. Were werewolves always this annoying, or was it just this one? Isagi huffed out a laugh at Rin trying to escape him.

“At least tell me your name,” Isagi murmured, catching up to Rin easily. The other clenched his teeth. Like hell he was going to give his name out to some stranger.

“No,” He practically growled out, Isagi not even the slightest bit intimidated. In fact, he found it amusing.

“Please?” he pleaded, eyes widening when he heard that word come out of his mouth. Please? When was the last time he said please?

Isagi doesn’t remember.

“No, now goodbye,” Rin looked at him sharply before walking in a hasty pace and leaving the forest, finally feeling like he could breathe.

That stupid wolf. So annoying, he clutched the basket in his hand tightly. All of the energy he had left, was gone. Dissolved. Great, how was he going to survive Shidou now?

Isagi smiled at that, noticing the irritated look Rin had given him before he had turned around and walked away with quick steps. He was sure this wouldn’t be the last time he saw the human.

He’d make sure of it.

“See you later,” Isagi waved at him enthusiastically, lips stretching into a grin when he saw that the other boy ignored him.

His tail started wagging wildly without him even realising, ears twitching in anticipation.
