Six years ago, I escaped the shackles of K.S.
It's a facility rumored to be created in Ostania nearing the beginning of the war between East and West. They wanted to create technology to finally end the war and declare dominance over the west, but after their stalemate, news about the facility started to fade away.
Those years of my life were the most vulnerable of mine, seen as a tool for the country and nothing more, but now, I'm creating a new version of myself. A normal one.

Thank whatever God there is that its the weekend. My coworkers have been a pain ever since my boss decided to transfer me to a different department. Although, the gifts were nice. On Monday, I'll be moved to City Hall and I'm not upset about it, it is closer to my apartment. My bigger concern is who exactly I'll be working with, but that's a problem for Monday.
Saturday morning, I decided to spend it at the park, sip a latte and read a book like always. It was a nice day so far. My usual café wasn't as packed so I got my coffee quickly, there's no annoying Pomeranians here to run around, bark loudly and chew on my pant legs, the breeze isn't strong enough to blow all my pages away, just complete and utter bli-
"PINK! Papa, he has pink hair like Anya!"
I lifted up my head to find the voice, my eyes landing on a pink haired little girl, looking no older than 5 years old. She was in the arms of a tall blonde man adorned in a green suit. He had a neutral expression on his face, but I noticed how his pupils shrank at the sight of my hair.
*"Pink hair? Is it natural like Anya's? No, it has to be, Ostania has strict policies on hair color, the only way he could have it is if it was natural. Pink is already a rare hair color, what if this man ends up being related to Anya? This'll just complicate the mission further..,"* the man rambled on in his brain.
After a quick scan of his rapidly moving thoughts, I concluded that he was a spy using this child to complete his mission. Poor kid. Although, as much as I feel bad for her, I should decide on how to flee from the situation so I don't get too much attention on m-
The girls face soon went pale, lip quivering and pupils shrunken. She squirmed out of the arms of her father and rushed over to the bench I was sitting on. She grabbed onto my pants leg, voice full of urgency.
"You're the boy from the posters! You escaped!" She whispered to me. My eyes widened. Posters? She knew I escaped? Was she also from K.S.? "You're like Anya! Anya escap-" she continued before being interrupted by her father.
"Anya, don't run off, especially to strangers! It's dangerous! I'm so sorry sir," he scolded her, gaze now turning to me. "I don't know what got into her, it must be because of the pink hair. Not many people are born with such a unique color." While her father sweet talked me, the girl's mind flooded with questions about me, utterly fascinated.
*"So this is the Kooso boy!"*
It's Kusuo, not Kooso.
*"He looks so old now!"*
Old?
*"What is he? Forty?"*
I'm twenty!
*"Oh twenty! That's like, a little less than forty?"*
Wait, what? Did she..
Anya right? Can you hear me?
"Yes!" she blurted out. Don't speak, just think and I'll read back.
*".. Is this better?"* she thought instead, her eyes lighting up.
Yes, it's perfect. Now I know you're another psychic, from K.S. at that.
*"I feel like a secret spy, this is so cool! Wait, since you can read minds too, you know papa's a spy?"*
Yes, I know your dad's a spy, he practically explained his whole mission in one thought.
*"Yes, he's using me for operation sticks!"*
It's Strix.
*"That's what I said!"*
*"... Why are they just staring at each other? They must definitely recognize each other! I'll need to report this back to WISE.."* her father's thoughts cut in, his face full of confusion as he watched his daughter and I stare each other down, at least from his perspective.
"Come on Anya, let's go, staring at strangers is rude," he tried to shut down the conversation, or lack thereof, picking Anya back up. She, however, seemed to instantly refuse.
"No papa! I know him! He's just like me!" she blurted, grabbing onto the shoulder of my sweater.
"I wanna know more about you... You're the only one like me! Don't leave Kooso!" she thought back to me, her eyes full of innocence as she pleaded.
... Shit.

I couldn't just abandon a traumatized kid who wanted support, so her father and I decided to have a talk. I sat on the couch of their apartment, Anya sitting in front of the tv as she was delightfully distracted by her spy cartoons.
"So... What are you to Anya? Why were you two separated?" Loid asked me, pouring some tea into two different cups as he stood at the kitchen counter. His mind raced, and I noticed how his foot tapped quickly against the floor, as if he was in slight stress.
*"I didn't expect to find any of Anya's biological family around here, I possibly can't be losing my edge.. If I can't get him to agree with my terms about Anya, operation Strix might as well be finished. I had a good cover plan about being a widow, although, depending on his relationship with Anya, I don't exactly have to change my story.."*
I decided to feed into his story to make it easier for him, "... I'm her uncle, her and I got seperate after my sister and her husband passed away." I watched as he brought the tea over, settling into the recliner next to me.
*"It matches my cover exactly, but I should get excited too soon, I still need to have him agree to my terms of having Anya."*
"I don't think I've gotten your name. I'm Loid Forger, you are?" he asked, taking a gentle sip of his tea.
"Kusuo Saiki." I replied, grabbing my own cup and sipping as well. Loid's eyebrows raised with surprise, letting out a soft grin.
"Oh, a Japanese name! There's been a handful of Japanese immigrants here before the war between the East and the West." he said, mentally logging my ancestry. "I didn't expect that Anya would be Japanese, she has very German features. You two do have similarities, though."
It's only a possibility that Anya can be Japanese like I am. Although we we're both developed in the same facility, that doesn't guarantee that we're completely related. Of course, in this situation, I'll go with it.
I nodded in agreement, setting my tea down and resting my hands in my lap. "Her father was Ostanian, that explains the features." I replied. Loid nodded back to me, crossing his legs and sighing.
"Listen, Kusuo.. I had adopted Anya from a rundown orphanage not to long ago and I've been wanting to give her a better life. We're in a complicated situation as I'm trying get her in a good school, I'm very busy with work, and currently trying to find a mother figure for Anya as well. You being in the picture could be beneficial to both of us as you can reunite with your niece again and we can work together to make sure she becomes the best person she can be.. Will you work with me to help raise Anya and keep her safe?" He explained.
Of course that wasn't his real plan, he needed Anya for his mission and that was it. Still, Anya was still young and living with nobody else but a spy who's perpetually busy and constantly in dangerous situations isn't safe for her either.
"... Of course. For Anya."
