Lucy and Genny, now seniors with a decades-long friendship, have finally reconnected after years apart. Their bond is as strong as it was when they first met.
“Omg Lucy, how have you been?! It’s been…. (trying to think how long it’s been) Well, it’s been too long!” Genny exclaimed over the phone, smiling. Lucy can see the overwhelming joy on her face through the screen.
“I’ve been doing well. Honestly, it’s been way too long. It’s wonderful to have you back! Life has been boring without you, omg!” Lucy has had stuff go on in her life that at the given moments she’s wanted to tell genny but she had to remind herself that genny wasn’t around anymore.
“I know! I’m so sorry that I had to move. There was so much going on in this family. You know some about my father, but it was because of him that we had to move. I’m so sorry!”
Genny felt bad, as if it was her fault that they drifted apart.
Lucy knew what Genny felt cause she knew her best friend even after all these years she still knew her better than she knew herself.
“Hey hey, no, it’s not your fault. I completely understand the entire family situation. You know my family better than anyone else, so you know I can relate. But hey, how has everything been on your end?”
Genny knows Lucy understands her parent issues, even though they have different ones. She knows Lucy understands better than anyone else, which is the main reason they’re so close. They just understand each other.
“Well, once we moved, everything started looking up. Thankfully, my grades are no longer slipping, and my mom is now happier. However, it’s sad that my brother is overseas. It’s understandable to want to escape this hell we were living in.”
Lucy feels sorry for them. She knows some things that happened, but even though she’s never met her brother, she completely understands his feelings and why he fled. In fact, she would have done the very same.
“Well, that’s a plus! Please tell Joy that I miss her and her cooking. Oh, and hello? Your brother? Why am I only hearing about him now?!”
Lucy is looking at Genny with her “um, excuse me” face, and she is now remembering how she’s never mentioned her brother before, and she feels bad.
“OMG! I totally forgot I never mentioned any siblings!
Well, yes, I do have one brother. He is annoying, but I do love him.”
Lucy is laughing at the thought of Genny’s brother completely slipping her mind.
“Lucy, it’s not funny! I completely forgot to mention him at all! To be honest, you’re the sibling I wanted but never got.”
Genny, who had always yearned for a sister, finally found one in Lucy. From the moment they met, Genny and Lucy were inseparable, treating each other like sisters. They even joked about the possibility of the other’s parents adopting the other.
“Well, we are sisters. We may not share the same blood, but girl, we’ve been sisters since the day we met.”
It’s as if Lucy was reading Genny’s mind right through the phone, just like they used to back then.
“Well, Lucy is getting late. I’m going to head to bed. I’ll talk to you tomorrow!”
Lucy hadn’t even noticed how long it had been…

Her clock on her desk read, “Holy shit! I didn’t notice it was that late!”
“Aha! Yeah, me neither! But I love you. Goodnight!”
“I love you too. Goodnight, Genny!”
“Bye bye!”
“Bye bye!”
They said in sync as they both hung up.
