Chapter Text
The stench of iron was setting in
Red slowly dripping from his hands
It was
.
.
.
Overwhelming
His heart slowed as he looked over at the body laying in front of him.
Had he really done that? --His breath hitched at the sight
What had they just said-- were those their last words?
His ears were ringing, a noise drowning out any coherent thought.
How could he let them slip away?
He could taste blood curling in his throat.
There was red drenching the snow.. but no visible wound
His vision began to blur
How did he end up here.. why did he
Why was Chance..
Why was he so... cold
This.. this is too much
This must have happened before
It must have
This can't be
So
Vivid
.
.
.
The Casino lights were blinding.
Was he at the casino? Why would he be at the casino- Chance was already--
A familiar voice interrupted his thoughts, it felt awfully close to
But how
"Heyy? You okay?" Chance asked, their smile faltering ever so slightly.
The question snapped him back to reality, it felt so.. surreal.
"Oh..?" Looking over, Chance was sitting next to him at the table. Both had drinks in front of them.
This felt.. odd.
It couldn't truly be happening could it?
"Oh, yeah I'm good, must have had one too many drinks hah" He laughed it off. It seemed to lessen Chance's worry but they were still wary.
And yet..How was it possible
For them to be here again
"Fair then, I've probably had more than enough for tonight aswell." Their finger circled the rim of the glass, a faint laugh coming out.
This happened before
The lights seemed to brighten, the smell of liquor sharpening.
He hummed trying to take his mind off of it. maybe it was deja vu
The grasp on his memories was slowly loosening
"Hmm, maybe we should take a breather huh" chance looked over as they said it, a playful grin beginning to show as the words left his mouth "Wanna go on the balcony?
Itrapped took a moment before answering, a smile forming "Some fresh air sure sounds nice.."
Chance left some money on the table before getting up.
They had been walking for a bit before reaching a set of stairs, spades were modeled on the curvature of each step. It was a nice theme for the casino
Itrapped felt exhausted for some reason.. he hadn't truly been doing anything beforehand
why was he so tired?
"Ouchh" Chance sighed "I never liked these, some of the steps are uneven..I always end up tripping one way or another" they said as they leaned over slightly to check their boots.
Itrapped let out a small laugh at the gesture
"Never was the biggest fan of stairs either" he chuckled
They had a quick rest for chance to fix their posture before going on. There weren't many stairs left but each felt like torture, he tried to not let it show.
He really hated stairs
They finally reached the second floor.. After like 5 minutes, wich felt like at least an hour. There were paintings framed on the walls but itrapped couldn't really make them out.
At the end of the hallway there were two huge stained glass doors with different poker related models on them. Chance had a look of satisfaction in their eyes as they reached for a bunch of keys in their pocket. Each having a different design somehow related to the door they were supposed to open.
They picked one that seemed to be carved out of marble- how fancy.
As they opened the doors a breeze slapped them in the face. Itrapped found it quite funny how chance immediately pushed their glasses up to protect their eyes. They were almost about to close the doors before the wind stopped.
They slowly stepped inside as the view began to clear, The scenery was impressive. Stars were brighting up the night sky, forming constellations that itrapped never quite paid attention to. Now that he thought of it.. he never truly stopped to appreciate small things like these, life had always moved on so fast for him.
He wondered how many moments as beautiful as this one he had missed.
"Woah.."
They went over to the railing, itrapped leaned over staring at the city lights. Chance shortly followed the gesture.
"Yeah.. nice view huh? I'm always amazed by it"
"I can see why." He chuckled
Itrapped went on "I didn't even realise it was late enough for the moon to show."
"Time sure passes by fast in here, the fact that there are basically no windows inside doesn't help either."
Chance seemed to drop the grin they had onto a more genuine smile.
"Sometimes I find myself wasting days, even weeks in here, life sure seems to be never ending when you have fun." They paused
"But usually It's not really fun that I'm feeling, you know?"
"Hm?"
"It's.. more of a distraction I suppose? The fact that I own the casino gives me an excuse to be here most of the time.. " they let out a laugh, as if acknowledging how that sounds.
"And it's not fun that I'm having in the moment, it may feel like it but..it's more like.. the adrenaline rush, yeah. It dies shortly after, but I keep seeking for it."
"Stuff feels kinda meaningless otherwise, and you won't be catching me doing the paperwork or the office jargon that comes with owning the place"
"I guess it feels a little lonely." They said, smile remaining on their face
Chance looked over to see itrapped having a puzzled expression
"But that wouldn't really matter-"
"No no, I get what you mean. It sure seems like it's quite the lonely place at times. Can't imagine how it must feel." Itrapped saw how they were trying to change the subject.
They seemed surprised
"Oh, well.."
"You can go on, no need to feel bad for talking about yourself" Itrapped chuckled
"Hah, sure then" The surprise left their face as a warm smile took over
.
.
.
"Tonight felt a little less lonely"
