“Hey, Yunnie, are there any names you like? Like for boys?”
Yunho frowns at his computer screen. “What do you mean?”
Mingi is sat in the centre of his boyfriend’s bed. “Are there any names you like?”
He heals his teammate. “Is this a trick question?”
”No.”
”Do you want me to say that I like the name Mingi?”
“Well, I mean, you can-”
Yunho chuckles. “Come on,” he says, “boy names for what? Pets, humans?”
”Humans.”
”Okay,” he continues playing Valorant, “maybe San?”
Mingi frowns, looking away from his own screen and towards Yunho. “No.”
”No?”
”That’s a terrible name.”
Yunho blinks.
”No,” a shake of his head, “that came out wrong. It’s a nice name, just not a good name choice for this.”
”And what exactly is this?”
Mingi looks back at the notification filling the centre of his screen. A mumble of, “nothing.”
CONGRATULATIONS…
it’s a boy!
They’re both quiet for a moment. Yunho focuses on his game and Mingi silently brainstorms boy names he himself likes. There’s only really one in his mind.
Yunho’s birthday live, which took place a little earlier than normal due to scheduling, had ended a little bit over an hour ago.
Mingi had messaged to ask if he wanted to hang out, most likely to then fall asleep together, and upon the older male informing him that he wished to relax by playing a few games of Valorant but was more than okay with the company- well Mingi showed up with a computer of his own.
Yunho has no idea what he’s playing, though.
Mingi’s been playing his own game since he got here around ten or so minutes after Yunho himself arrived home. He is occasionally giggling to himself and due to the fact Yunho doesn’t have his headphone set on, so that he and Mingi can converse easily, he’s able to hear the sound he adores so clearly each time.
The younger lies back, placing his computer onto his clothed tummy. He’s wearing one of Yunho’s hoodies, a hoodie that stopped being returned months ago.
Yunho asks, “are there any boys names you like?”
“One,” Mingi hums.
“What is it?”
He doesn’t even realise it’s a perfect combination of their names. “Minho.”
Yunho feels his heart warm. “Minho?”
”Yeah,” Mingi nods, “it’s nice.”
”It is,” Yunho agrees swiftly.
He says without thinking, “I’ll go with that one.”
”Go with that one for what?”
Another mumble of, “nothing.”
Yunho isn’t convinced at all. “Are you playing a game where you have to name people?”
Mingi doesn’t reply. Yunho hears the keyboard typing as he assists his teammate in a kill.
Yunho asks, “Princess?”
”Yeah?”
”Did you hear what I asked?”
Mingi hums as a ‘yes’.
”So you’re- ignoring me?”
”No,” Mingi shakes his head, “I’m just concentrating.”
“Okay.”
His game ends with a victory for his team, so Yunho decides to use his free minute before the next game starts to look over at Mingi. Yunho is sat at his desk, his right hand remains on his computer mouse. Mingi is grinning at his own computer screen.
Yunho tilts his head to the left side, both endeared and intrigued. “What are you playing?”
”A game,” Mingi says.
“Yeah, but what game?”
”Just something I found a few days ago.”
”Right-”
”Sangie says his cousin plays it.”
”Which cousin?”
”The little one.”
”The boy little one or the girl little one?”
”The girl little one,” Mingi tells him, “um-”
”I don’t remember her name either, so don’t feel too bad.” A pause, and then a hurt, “wait, so Yeosangie knows which game you’re playing?”
”Yeah,” Mingi nods, “he helped me download it.”
”Why didn’t you ask for my help?”
Mingi doesn’t reply.
”Princess?”
A shrug.
Yunho sighs, both of his shoulders slumping, feeling defeated. ”Why aren’t you telling me what the game is?”
Mingi looks over at him. “You’re being shot at.”
Eyebrows knitting together in confusion, Yunho asks, “what?”
”Valorant,” Mingi points to Yunho’s computer with his right finger, “your teammates cannot get to you to help.”
There’s a moment of silence in which Yunho remains confused- but then he remembers why he is sat at his desk:
”Shit,” Yunho curses, eyes widening as he turns back to his own game and immediately begins playing.
Mingi chuckles. “Some Radiant you are.”
Yunho rolls his eyes. “You distracted me.”
”Not my fault I’m so good-looking…”
”Sure, whatever.”
Mingi raises his eyebrows. “Excuse me?”
It’s Yunho’s turn to not reply.
Mingi frowns. “Jeong Yunho, tell me I’m pretty!”
”Pretty annoying, is what you are.”
An offended, ”hey!”
Yunho chuckles, “I’m just joking, Princess, of course I think you’re pretty.”
Mingi pouts, “sure you do.”
”I do,” Yunho turns to look at him, “my Princess, my Mingi, my forever love and the light of my life, more beautiful than all the stars in the galaxy.”
“And?”
”So beautiful I fall in love all over again every time I see you.”
”And?”
”So beautiful that you’ll always take my breath away. My heart skips a beat every single time I am in your presence.”
“And?”
”And,” Yunho smiles gently, eyes softening, “it is my greatest honour that you are mine and I am yours.”
Mingi smiles back at him. “That’s so cheesy.”
“Yeah, well,” a small shrug of his shoulders while he turns back to his computer, “it’s the truth.”
The younger admires his boyfriend, silently noticing how pink the tips of the older’s ears are through the dim lighting of the room.
”I love you,” Mingi tells him.
”I love you more.”
”Not possible, but okay.”
Mingi goes back to his game, finally unpausing it and continuing the virtual day he’s living. The younger of the two men smiles fondly, his heart so incredibly full as he watches his boyfriend, or husband in the video game, look after their newborn son.
Fifteen or so minutes comes and goes by pretty fast. Yunho exits Valorant and turns his computer off. The shorter doesn’t realise he’s done this until he hears the chair creak as it’s spun around.
Mingi looks over, “you finished?”
”It’s nearly one, so yeah.”
”Okay, you say that as if I never have to physically pick you up out of your chair at 3am.”
“I haven’t played until 3am since-”
”Last week? Just one more game, Princess, please!”
Yunho rolls his eyes, standing up.
”I’m just going to play for a little longer, okay?”
Yunho raises his two eyebrows as if to say: are you serious right now?
Mingi smiles, “I love you.”
Yunho can’t help but feel endearment as he wanders over to place a kiss to the top of Mingi’s head. Yunho doesn’t even consider the idea of checking the other man’s computer screen before he turns and heads to the bathroom.
Mingi watches him leave the bedroom, then he saves his game and continues on. He fast forwards through the entirety of the night, the smallest member of his games household wakes up first. His smile is bright as he wakes up his own character to feed the happy baby this time.
Yunho comes back and settles on his left side, finally looking at Mingi’s computer screen. He props himself up on his left elbow.
He’s a little shocked, “is this The Sims?”
Mingi blushes, “no.”
“Are you sure? They look like Sims to me.”
Luckily, the baby is no longer visible on the screen in front of them. His Sim version is, though, his camera is locked onto him so the screen will go wherever he does.
Mingi says, “well then clearly you’re-”
Yunho grins, “is that you?”
Mingi zooms out immediately. “Don’t laugh at me.”
”No, I- I’m not going to laugh, Princess. I mean, I’ve heard- you know, a lot of people like this game.”
Mingi frowns, Yunho places a kiss to the right side of his head.
”Zoom back in, please,” he requests, “I want to see what you’re doing.”
”I’m in bed.”
”No, I want to see what your Sim is doing.”
”Yeah,” Mingi nods, zooming back in, “I’m in bed.”
Yunho can’t help but notice the other Sims character lying in the bed. He looks familiar, too familiar. Yunho chuckles fondly, “is that me?!”
A distraught, “oh, you said you wouldn’t laugh!”
”I’m not,” a giggle as he swiftly shakes his head, “I am not laughing.”
”You are!”
”I’m n-not, I just- it’s really sweet that you made us in The Sims.”
Mingi frowns again, they watch as the Sim version of Yunho takes the Sim version of himself into his arms while they sleep.
”Ah,” Yunho is smiling, “so we’re boyfriends in game too?”
A pause. A quiet correction, “husbands, actually.”
Yunho’s face falls, his heart melts and his two brown eyes are full of adoration. “Oh, Min-”
”I have screenshots of the wedding, I can show you on a different day. It was nice.”
Yunho asks him, “was it at all like we’ve talked about before?”
“We had our first dance under the stars,” Mingi tells him, “you twirled me and everything.”
“That’s lovely,” he hums, “can we renew our vows at all?”
”I think so. Why?”
”So I can watch too.”
Mingi smiles, “okay. I’ll let you know when I plan to do it. It will be a while because we got married two weeks ago in game.”
Yunho kisses his cheek, “thank you, Princess.”
Mingi nods. “Do you want a house tour? I built it all myself. It took me like four hours.”
An honest, “I’d love one.”
So Mingi pans away to start it. He shows Yunho the carefully built downstairs area first. The lounge, the kitchen, the entryway, the downstairs bathroom, and even the staircase all get their time in the spotlight.
Then it’s the garden he shows off. A fenced off area that is the home of sand coloured stone slabs by a sliding patio door and a table and chairs for outside dining.
They have a BBQ, swing-set, a kids play tent Yunho thankfully does not read too much into. At the very end of the garden is a shed-like building surrounded by trees and fairy lights that currently aren’t on.
The younger doesn’t stay near the shed long enough for Yunho to register what’s inside of it- all he notes is that the shed is very small, the walls are shorter than the actual houses ones.
The shed, come to think of it, looks more like a kids playhouse.
Mingi shows Yunho the upstairs of their home, and Yunho is still paying close attention to what is being explained to him.
Mingi shows the older the bedroom he had spent so long making sure had aspects of what they both like in it. Mingi downloaded a Spider-Man poster from the Sims gallery and it’s on the wall above pixel Yunho’s nightstand. The younger’s chosen poster is the logo of his favourite Anime.
Next is the corridor, then it’s the bathroom.
”And that’s our home,” Mingi says, but Yunho shakes his head because something is not quite right. Yunho can barely make out moving limbs in a pale bassinet in the room opposite theirs.
“Um,” he can’t help but notice one room upstairs has gone unexplored. He points to the carefully designed and decorated bedroom for a brief moment while he asks, “who’s that?”
”Oh,” Mingi smiles, a line of light red blush appearing across the centre of his face. The younger moves his camera over to the room, and then he zooms in on a small, giggling bundle of pixels.
Yunho’s eyes widen a little, “Min-”
”This is our baby,” Mingi’s whispered confession, “his name is Minho and he very rarely cries.”
Yunho’s heart is full. “We have a baby?”
”Yeah,” Mingi nods, “Wooyoung and San have a baby too, so do the hyungs. They both have one daughter each, though. Yeosangie and Jongho don’t have kids yet.”
”You made them all as well?”
”Of course. We have band reunions every Saturday.”
Yunho is certain he falls in love all over again.
”Look,” Mingi zooms out, away from their baby son’s room. Yunho very quickly finds himself missing their little boy. He drags the camera to a different house, “San and Wooyoungie live here.”
”That close, huh?”
”Yes,” he goes to another nearby house, “the hyungs are here.”
Yunho notes just how well put together the garden of Hongjoong and Seonghwa’s house looks. If his Mingi was the one to decorate it, well he did a great job.
He blinks and suddenly a loading screen greets him- something about going to ‘manage worlds’. The older waits rather impatiently for a few seconds before an extremely detailed map of the town they live in is on the screen.
Mingi points to a smaller section of the world higher up. “Sangie and Jongho live here.”
Yunho asks, “why so far away from the rest of us?”
”Well I overheard them on the plane home from, um, Australia talk about living together in a little cottage-like house somewhere quiet. I thought this would be the best place to put it.”
Yunho smiles, turning to place a kiss to the right side of Mingi’s head. He tells him, “you’re so cute.”
”Thank you,” a hum, “I do try.”
A moment of quiet.
”It’s Minho’s birthday today.”
Yunho asks, oddly excited, “it is?!”
”Yeah,” Mingi nods, “they’re only newborns for a day. He’ll be an infant later on.”
Confusion, “an infant?”
”It means the two of us will get to teach him how to sit up, stand, crawl, all that sort of stuff. We can take him to the park too, put him in a baby chair to eat at the table with us. He’ll be so cute, I know it.”
Yunho has never played this game before. He safely assumes adoption, but still he asks, “how did we-”
”It’s called a ‘science baby’, but I think it is actually just some form of surrogacy.”
”So he’s-”
”Yours, technically.”
”Oh,” Yunho looks back at the screen, now returning them to their home, “how did you decide that?”
”I wanted a little you. Little me next time.”
Yunho asks a playful, “next time?”
”That’s what the,” he’s panning to the room near the upstairs bathroom, “spare room is for.”
Hey, Yunnie, are there any names you like? Like for boys?
”Do I get to help name the next baby too?”
”Ah,” Mingi turns to look at his partner after pausing the game, “you’ve finally realised my previous plan?”
”I feel silly that it took me so long.”
When Mingi had asked him what names he liked, it was because he wanted some help naming their son. He wanted to make sure Yunho, as the other parent, got some say in what their baby was called. How so very sweet.
”Ah, don’t feel silly.”
Yunho smiles gently at him, “what’s his full name?”
”Jeong-Song Minho,” Mingi tells him, “I can’t wait to see him grow up!”
Yunho kisses his partner’s forehead. ”The next time you play, I’ll get a desk so you can sit next to me.”
”Why?”
”Well Minho’s my son too! I’d like to see him grow up as well.”
Mingi grins, “we can design his room together!”
”Will he go to school?”
”When he’s a child and teenager, yeah.”
”Do they have Uniform?”
”It’s American, so I don’t think so. But after we have done his room, we can choose his outfits!”
Yunho grins, “you said it’s his birthday today?”
”Yeah!”
”How about we play until he gets older and then we head to bed?”
They have a flight to catch tomorrow morning for the band’s next concert, they really should have been in bed ages ago.
Mingi nods, “okay!”
And so the two of them play through the day, Yunho adds a few more items here and there to their home and they even get a surprise visit from Yeosang at lunch time. Mingi has done an incredible job creating them all, their Sim versions look almost identical to themselves.
Yeosang’s Sim doesn’t interact with them aside from the initial greeting. He goes straight upstairs to their Minho’s room and gives him so many cuddles.
”Don’t tell anyone, okay?”
Yunho asks, “tell who about what?”
”The members,” Mingi clarifies, “none of them know I’ve made them.”
Yunho watches Yeosang put Minho down. “Okay.”
”Promise?”
”I promise, Princess.”
Mingi kisses Yunho’s head. “Thank you.”
”Of course.”
They play for a little longer until eventually the Sim versions of themselves wander to Minho’s bedroom. Mingi gets a purple notification in the top right of his computer and then the screen pans itself to where Minho’s bassinet is shaking and sparkling.
Mingi squeals in excitement, “he’s aging up!”
Yunho watches on in amazement as the newborn in the crib transforms into a giggling infant lying on the floor beside the bassinet. They choose Minho’s trait together and then head into ‘Create A Sim’ to choose his outfits.
When they are greeted by the first close-up view of their son, Mingi’s eyes fill with tears.
”Oh, Yunnie, he looks just like you!”
Yunho blinks because, “holy shit, he really does.”
”He’s so cute! Look at his little face!”
Minho, on the screen, babbles sweetly and sways his head side-to-side with sparkling eyes.
Chuckling, the older turns to his partner. He notices a tear running down Mingi’s face. Immediately, he’s concerned, “are you crying?!”
Mingi covers his face with his hands, sobbing quietly. A muffled, slightly hysterical, “I th-think I need to go to bed.”
Yunho smiles fondly at him, the expression is small. “Shall we pick Minho’s outfits when we get home?”
Mingi nods.
”How do I save your game?”
The younger moves his hands from his flushed face and saves his game, exiting to the main menu in the process. Yunho wipes Mingi’s tears with his thumbs.
Mingi sniffles as he sits upright, closing his computer lid. He abandons the device to beneath Yunho’s bed.
”I can’t believe I cried over pixels.”
Yunho chuckles, lying down and then he guides Mingi into his side. Mingi slots his left leg between Yunho’s two. “Remember when you cried on live because you wanted Pasta?”
”I’ve got to start going to bed earlier.”
Mingi is working on a project that’s taking longer to complete than he thought it would. He spends most of his days trapped inside his studio with Yunho both in and out to offer general company, food, cuddles, and tea.
Mingi, at his desk, wrote half a song with his partner asleep on his lap. Yunho’s face buried in his neck and their chests pressed together as he slumbered. While Mingi’s right hand held a pencil or a pen, his left arm remained curled around Yunho’s hips to keep him as close and safe as possible.
Yunho turns to switch off his nightstands lamp. The room plunges into darkness. Mingi snuggles closer to his side, draping his left arm over Yunho’s torso. The older kisses his forehead.
”I think it’s really sweet that you’ve made us in your game.”
”You don’t think it’s weird?”
”Not at all.”
”I was a bit worried you would.”
Yunho asks, ”is that why you didn’t tell me what you were playing?”
A quiet, “yeah.”
Yunho hums. He turns to lie on his left side. His left arm, more specifically his bicep, is trapped beneath Mingi’s head. He wraps his right arm around Mingi’s body.
”Please don’t worry about me thinking something is weird. If you like it, Mingi, I will always like to hear about it. I will never think it’s weird.”
Mingi smiles at him through the darkness. He bumps the tips of their noses together carefully, “okay.”
Yunho smiles back. “I love you, Princess.”
”I love you too, baby.”
”And I can’t wait to design Minho’s room with you.”
Mingi chuckles, kissing Yunho softly. The older man melts into the action that lasts a few seconds before Mingi pulls back.
”I’ll show you our wedding screenshots before that, okay?”
Yunho hums, “that sounds like a good plan to me.”
Mingi giggles as Yunho begins placing kisses to every inch of his face easily accessible to him.
Yunho eventually pulls back and the two of them talk for a couple more minutes. They sleep in the location they feel the most safe…
And that’s each other’s arms.
