It Still Felt Like Yesterday...

Summary:

MONSTER HUNTER STORIES 3: TWISTED REFLECTION ACT/AREA 3 SPOILERS!!!

Every time Ena looks at the Princess and Rudy, all she sees is her old friend, Shera and Navirou. They were so different yet so alike.

But this was the price of being a Wyverian. She could never see her friends again...

Once again, she lost everyone...

Notes:

The moment I found out MHS3 takes place 200 YEARS after MHS1 and 2, it made me so sad. I realized only Ena, Alwin and maybe Ol' Dede are the only ones alive from the og games.

Kinda wished she talked more about Mhs 2 (especially how she had a hunch about a monster being behind the Encroachment, since a Monster was also responsible for the pits and Rage-Rayed Monsters)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

As Ena watches the Princess of Azuria, Celeste, and her feline partner, Rudy, it gives her a sense of nostalgia.

When she first met Rudy, she couldn't help but rub his face, the same way "she" did whenever someone visited "her" home village, Mahana.

"Navi..."

She had almost said his name back then. Even Rudy noticed, she was sort of glad he didn't ask about that.

Navirou may have been... boastful and a lot, but he was still a good feline companion whom she could never replace.

They were very different yet so similar in a few ways.

Then there was Celeste. She talked to her on a few occasions, but she learned... a lot of things about her.

She was always happy whenever she hatched a new monstie, a new life. She was kind to Monsties, and was considerate to them. She never killed out of revenge but for the best for all, and she cherished her companions. She had a beautiful bond with her Monsties, especially Ratha. And she had a good sense of hearing as well. Almost as strong as those two...

Ena closed her eyes, recalling the blue-haired tied in dual braids and wearing Rathalos-themed armor.

It still felt like yesterday when Red's perished and saw Guardian Ratha fly away...

It still felt like yesterday when she first met his granddaughter, Shera, who shared his eyes...

It still felt like yesterday when she, Shera, first hatched Razewing Ratha...

It still felt like yesterday when she saw her grow in strength...

It still felt like yesterday when she saw Shera, Naviou, Ratha, and Kyle defeat Oltura, thanks to her necklace...

It still felt like yesterday when she saw her smile upon seeing Ratha again...

It still felt like yesterday when she scolded her for fighting a Fatalis that one time...

It still felt like yesterday when she saw her grow up over the years, she continued to visit Ruto like Red...

It still felt like yesterday when she saw her and Kyle changing many of the hunters' thoughts on Riders' "controlling" Monsties...

It still felt like yesterday when Shera invited her to her wedding several weeks after Kyle had proposed to her...

It still felt like yesterday when she met her children when she visited...

It still felt like yesterday when Shera started to grow older like red...

It still felt like yesterday when she and Alwin attended her funeral...

It still felt like yesterday when Razewing Ratha flew to Guardian Ratha's old den and rested there too after Shera passed... Just like Guardian Ratha...

It still felt like yesterday when several generations later, Shera's descendants, along with Navirou's, stopped visiting them one day...

It still felt like-

"Miss Ena?"

Ena opened her eyes, startled, and faced Corbin and his feline partner, PK, both equally worried.

"Yes?" Ena says, trying to sound calm.

"You okay? You spaced out a lot recently..."

Ena was silent as she faced Celeste, who was seen with her Ratha again, with a sad smile on her face.

Ena shakes her head.

"I'm alright... I just... thought of the past..."

A past she would never forget throughout her life...

The End...

Notes:

Depressing fact, the way Ena greeted Rudy was the same "hello" greeting from Mahana, the home village of the Mhs2 Protagonist.
