Chapter Text
Jay opened his dorm room, a wave of warm air hitting his face. He smiled, and held the door wide for his roommate and new friend. Carlos, Dude in hand, mumbled a quick thanks with a smile and patted Jay on the shoulder twice. Jay faced his new bro, smiling like a golden retriever about to be fed its dinner.
Gil eagerly stepped into Jay and Carlos’s dorm, looking around in awe. He roamed over to Jay’s bed, feeling the soft bedsheets and felt as though his jaw might fall off.
“You guys actually live here?” Gil gasped. Carlos looked at Jay and smirked, Jay leaving the door cracked open.
“You sound just like us when we got here.” Carlos chuckled, scratching Dude behind his ears as the raggedy talking dog let out a very humanoid giggle.
“Do we get to stay here?” Jay raised his eyebrow.
“Yeah, of course.. Who’s we?”
“Me, Harry and Uma. You know, roommates, like we were on the Isle.” Gil grinned and admired Jay’s tourney trophies. Jay leaned against his desk and folded his arms.
“Well, at Auradon I don’t think boys and girls are allowed to be roommates. To be fair, I’ve never actually asked…” Jay trailed off. Carlos tilted his head and furrowed his brow, before shaking his head. Gil shrugged.
“Oh alright, so just me and Harry. That’s cool.” Jay tilted his head and peered out the window into the night sky.
After the barrier was taken down for good, everyone; villains and heroes; had all been very accepting and kind to each other, to Jay’s surprise. The core four had returned to the Isle to find their parents, but to no avail. They assumed that their parents must’ve gotten off the Isle the second the barrier opened, and were probably far away from Auradon, plotting their revenge of some sort.
Jay liked to think that they had changed and had given up on revenge after Maleficent was turned into a lizard by Mal, but the feeling that they might one day return still left him and the others feeling paranoid. He decided to not think about it much however, as they had much more to focus on. One key thing being his and Gil’s idea to take a gap year and adventure around Auradon. Carlos asked to tag along, and Jay obviously accepted.
There was only one problem with their plan. There was one person that Gil was very keen on inviting; Uma’s first mate, the second-in-command of the Lost Revenge, and Gil’s best friend. Harry Hook.
Jay had to admit; even after everything, he just couldn't really bring himself to like Harry. Jay had tried to be good friends with him, even just acquaintances would’ve been fine. But he just couldn’t figure the guy out.
Harry was a lunatic. He did whatever pissed people off the most, flirted with whoever he laid eyes on, and pushed everyone away except for Uma and Gil. Meanwhile Jay always tried to be a team player, stayed composed and cool at all times, and was quick to accept people. The two couldn’t be any less compatible.
Snapping back to reality, Jay tried to change the subject.
“So.. When do you want to leave? Anything you wanna do here before we hit the road?” Jay asked and strolled over to Gil. Gil thought for a moment before lighting up.
“I wanna say hi to my dad! I haven’t seen him in a while, he was always sulking inside our house and never wanted to talk to me. But he’s probably better now that the barrier is gone!” Gil smiled. Jay patted him on the back.
“Then how about tomorrow we go out and find him? Tomorrow’s Saturday anyway, we’ve got no school. And hey, maybe me and Carlos will be able to find our parents too.” Carlos looked up and nodded. He rolled over and took off his black and white jacket, tossing it onto a nearby cozy chair. Gil was fidgeting with everything he saw, clearly not over the fact that Jay and Carlos had their own room with so much privacy.
“Uh, dude, you know you get your own room too. I just told you that.” Jay laughed. Gil looked surprised, but after a few seconds perked up.
“Oh yeah! Can I see it?” He grinned. Jay thought he might seriously have some sort of memory loss issues. Or maybe he really just was that unaware of what others say.
“Ya mean our room?” A familiar Scottish-accented voice said. Jay turned around and saw Harry leaning against the door frame; hook in hand, as usual. Jay pursed his lips and nodded, looking at Gil..
“Hey Harry! You know we get a room just like this except it’s for us? Isn’t that cool?” Gil exclaimed. Harry smiled a forced smile and nodded, tapping the point of his hook on the door frame.
“Ye, how amazing. Let's hurry along then, it’s getting late.” Harry opened his arm as if to lead Gil out of the room, and Gil nodded and followed. Harry winked and smirked at Jay, who watched him with a slightly annoyed face. Harry spun around, stopping right before he stepped out of the room. He turned his head slightly, his smile visible to Jay and Carlos.
Harry slithered his hook over Jay’s desk, placing the point on top of Jay’s wallet. He slowly slid the wallet over to him, picking it up with his other hand.
“Leave my wallet, Harry. That wasn’t smooth at all.” Jay chided as Harry began exiting the dorm. Carlos snickered in the corner, still holding Dude and snuggling the fluffy dog. Harry whipped his head around and grinned, his pale blue eyes looking fierce as ever thanks to all the black eyeliner smudged around his eyes.
“Ye goodies never have any fun. Ya can manage without some extra dosh, eh?” Harry rolled his eyes and took the wallet anyway. Jay caught up with him and pulled him back by the shoulder, reaching for his wallet. Hook pulled his arm back, sneaking the wallet into his back pocket while still smiling smugly. Jay glared at him.
“This isn’t the Isle, Hook. If you still wanna act like a jerk all the time, none of us are gonna stay and put up with it.” Jay growled. The pirate snickered his usual (slightly unsettling) laugh.
“Aye, no barrier no rules, Jay. Now that we’re all free, yah just have to put up with me!”
“Maybe the barrier should still be there, just to keep psychotic punks like you away from everyone else.”
“Awe, ye act like we were so different back then. Remember Jay, you’re still a villain. We really are quite alike.” Jay blinked and felt his blood boil. He didn't know why that angered him so much. He leaned into the pirate’s face, grabbing Harry’s shoulder and gripping it tightly.
“Trust me, I know, but we're nothing alike. I’ve changed and you’re still a lunatic. I don’t know what it’s going to take to get you to stop being so obnoxious and arrogant, but until then nothing would make me happier than to not see your self-absorbed, snobby self around my friends!” Jay lashed. His voice echoed down the empty hall, and for a moment there was only silence. Carlos peeked his head out into the hall, and Gil had stopped walking and watched the two uncomfortably. Jay breathed heavily, still gripping Harry's shoulder.
Harry stayed silent, his smile never faltering. He leaned in once more to Jay’s bitter face, and poked the tip of Jay's nose with his hook.
“You’re cute when you’re angry.” Harry cooed. He smirked and shoved Jay's hand off him, strutting away. He put his arm around Gil and led the innocent pirate to their dorm, walking with such flair that anyone would've mistaken him as either a model or someone extremely high on drugs. Jay watched until the dark-haired boy left his sight and turned the corner before he returned to his room. Carlos stood inside, letting Jay in before he shut the door and locked it. He covered his ears and on command, Jay let out a roar of anger. Carlos rolled his eyes and sat down beside Dude on his bed.
“I still don’t get why he gets you so riled up, man.” Carlos commented, ruffling his own hair and putting their room key on his bedside table. Jay groaned.
“I don’t see how he doesn’t piss you guys off. Urgh, he’s just so pompous and annoying! Why does he have to be friends with all of my friends!? Now I have to be stuck around him just to be around you guys!” Jay threw his arms up in frustration and tossed his jacket off and onto the floor.
“Just don’t talk to him!”
“I’ve tried! He always makes his way over to me and tries to get under my skin, and.. Ugh, I don’t know how but he always succeeds. Like just now, he could’ve just left but he had to try to steal my wallet just to get a kick out of me.” Jay rambled as he undid his man-bun. He stopped for a moment and peered at his desk. It was empty. Jay groaned and dropped his head back, putting his palms over his eyes. Carlos glanced up at him and raised his eyebrow.
“Harry still has my wallet. Ugh! He’s- He’s just..” Jay huffed and let his arms fall, clenching his fists and punching the air weakly. Carlos and Dude giggled and whispered something to each other. Jay grabbed his jacket again and put it on, waving his hand to Carlos. Carlos tossed their room key to them, and Jay caught it before stopping and groaning again.
"Great."
“What?”
“I don't know where their dorm is.”
