Work Text:
Makittuq gazed longingly at Tui in the black endless sky. Her soft amethyst eyes filled with emotions as her lips quiver. Her whole life, she felt utterly and devastatingly alone. Nobody truly understands her.
Then she closed her eyes, trying to listen more clearly to the ocean waves clashing and crashing against one and another, her hands fidgeting with each other.
Makittuq took a breath in and out and stepped forward.
She wonders where the ocean will take her—
"Makittuq? What are you doing out here so late at night?"
A deep voice called out to her.
Makittuq whipped her head over her collarbones, eyes now fully widened, wondering who's the stranger behind her.
"Sifu Taqukaq?"
His usually calm face was scrunched up in worry. His step hurried.
"The waves are strong tonight. I suggest you stay further from the shore"
Makittuq looked back at the ocean and then at her sifu.
"I just feel a pull.."
"I understand, child. Water is our element, it's safety more often than not. But tonight, be careful," He said gently.
"Thank you for your concern," Makittuq gave a sad smile.
Taqukaq gave her a meaningful stare before saying, "Would you like to come in and eat with me? It's a cold night and I've got some fish that needs cooking. Too many for just me to be honest."
The old man sighed. He was lonely too.
Makittuq watched the black sea. Tui's light twinkled at her from a distance. He was big today, round and full. Perhaps she would join him another day.
"Yes, I would love to, Sifu," seeing Taqukaq's warm smile immediately made her feel better.
She followed him away from the wild, thrashing sea.
"I have some sea prunes too. Perhaps we could share them."
"I'll help prepare them."
