“Any choice is better than Spain!” the queen called out to Henry, but he wasn’t listening. He was too heartbroken by the news of Nicole’s engagement.
“Such a clumsy thief,” he muttered under his breath as he passed the servants who bowed while he made his way to his chambers. Once inside, he shut the door and locked it behind him.
He spent the rest of the day sulking, unable to believe he had just lost his true love, and his perfect match.
The following night, the masque had begun, with the grand ball filled the palace with music and laughter of all courtiers and nobles. But Henry was in no mood to party or talk to anyone, as he stood alone in the hallway, asked the guards to fetch his father, the king.
As Henry turned toward the window, staring out into the darkened sky, “wherever, Nicole is,” he said softly, “I hope she’s happy and has a wonderful life. She made her choice, now I have made mine. I will tell my father I will marry Gabriella”
