Work Text:

The house was quiet, a comforting silence filling the bedroom. Linda was sleeping soundly, sprawled across the bed, somehow hogging the entire king sized blanket and leaving Becky to basically freeze to death, but that's not what she was worried about.

Becky stared at the ceiling, the silence feeling far too loud. She looked over at the clock on her nightstand. 2:38. At this rate she was never going to get enough sleep for her shift tomorrow. She sighed, rolling over to face her girlfriend, linda. Their relationship was still in the early stages, but linda had basically already taken over her home, not that she really cared.

Somehow, by what must have been a miracle,
Becky finally fell asleep. She slept peaceful, but it was short lived. Her dream had started off silly, funny even to some degree. It was random thing about a cats cooking show. They were teaching how to make some random fish dish, but as the dream continued on, it only got more distressing. It started small, things just looked slightly random, but it quickly started to look more like her old kitchen, at her old house, with Stanley.

Becky began to toss and turn, her body not allowing her to wake up from the awful dream. Before she knew it, she was back in those woods. It was dark, so incredibly dark. Every sound made her skin prickle. She spun around slowly, the knife in her hand clutched so tightly she was surprised it didn't break. But somehow, like always, he caught her by surprise. She felt his rough, cruel hands grab her wrist, trying to force her to the ground. She was face to face with that monster again. His hand went to her neck, squeezing just enough to make her wheeze.

She shot up in bed, heart pounding in her chest. The room seemed to be closing in on her. Tears formed in her eyes, her hands shook, her quiet cries filling the once silent room. Becky pulled her knees to her chest, trying her best to stop the hyperventilating. Her mind raced with thoughts that simply wouldn't go away. Maybe it was her fault that Stanley become violent. She should have just been a better wife. She should have pushed through, she knew she could take more but she overreacted. It was only when she heard a voice beside her that she somewhat quieted down, grounded by the new voice.

The voice was cold, clearly annoyed. "Jesus, shut up will you, I'm trying to sl-" Linda stopped herself mid sentence. Even in the dark she could see her girlfriend falling apart right in front of her. "Oh sweetheart, what's wrong?"

Becky couldn't believe how quickly linda switched up, she still didn't quite know how her girlfriend could go from fuming to loving in a meer second, but now wasn't the time to question it. Becky tried her best to speak, but her voice came out a broken whisper. "I-..im sorry, it's nothing, just go back to bed..."

Out of the corner of her eye Becky could see Linda sit up, trying to get closer to her. Becky closed her eyes, trying to stop the tears from falling. She then felt a hand on her shoulder, it made her jump slightly, her body tensing up at the sudden contact. And then Linda removed her hand as quickly as she had placed it, she could tell touch was not what Becky needed right now.

"Becky, sweetheart, it's okay. He can't hurt you anymore, I promise you're safe." Linda's words finally made Becky open her eyes. She looked up, her gaze meeting Linda's, they were so gentle, caring even, but she could also tell that she was worried.

She couldn't hold the tears back any longer, Becky buried her face in her knees, her quite sobs filling the room.

Linda seemed hesitant. She loved her girlfriend with all her heart but she didn't know how to comfort her, especially when she was basically crying her eyes out. Linda breathed deep. She moved closer, making sure to leave enough space so that Becky didn't feel trapped, she needed her girlfriend to know she could leave if she wanted.

She spoke softly, wanting to comfort Becky and try to get some sort of explanation, but also not push her when make feel unsafe. "It's not your fault. I don't know how you're feeling, and I probably never will, but I do know for sure that it is not your fault."

Becky froze, lifting her head just enough to see Linda's face. She knew that Linda wasn't great at comforting, hell, she was awful at it. But she knew she was trying, and that just made the tears fall harder. Becky's quiet sobs filled the once quite room, no longer able to keep it together.

Linda's heart broke as she saw just how much her lover was struggling. She slowly held her hand out, letting Becky know that she was in control of what linda did to comfort her. As Becky took her hand, linda couldn't help but smile. How was it that Becky could be mid mental breakdown and still be the most gorgeous woman ever? It simply wasn't fair to linda but now wasn't the time for petty things like that.

Linda pulled the other woman close, holding her in her lap. She placed her hand on her head, only beginning to run her hands through her hair after she was given the nod of consent.
They stayed like that for a while. Eventually the sobs and tears stopped, a comfortable silence filling the room again. Becky finally sat up, her gaze soft against Linda's. She wrapped her arms around the blond, burying her face in the crook of her neck

Linda let out a quiet chuckle, rubbing her back gently. "Becky, darling, you did what you had to do. It wasn't your fault then and it surely isn't now. I may not be the best at showing it, but I love you so goddamn much."

Becky let out a quiet chuckle at that. "I love you too, baby."

Linda's heart fluttered, as much as she loved being in control, she loved the way Becky made her heart beat a little faster and stumble over her words more. She kissed the woman's forehead, earning a quiet squeal from the red head.

Once Linda knew Becky was okay she cupped her chin in her hand, looking into her eyes. "You wanna know something, barnes?"

Becky rolled her eyes at that, but let out a soft chuckle as well "oh God you're still calling me that." she let out a defeated sigh, knowing the nickname would never escape her. "Go on, Linda."

Linda smirked, it was rare for Becky to be mean, but god did Linda love it. "We both know that I'll call you it forever. Not the point though. The point is, you totally owe me a new nightgown, you ruined this one with all your tears and snot."

Becky let out an exaggerated gasp, but she wasn't actually hurt, she knew Linda was only trying to lighten the mood, but she also knew that Linda like it when she fought back with her words. "Geeze Linda. Why don't you just go fuck yourself cause there is no way in hell I am buying you another nightgown."

Linda laughed, she knew Becky was all bark and no bite and it was almost a guarantee she would get what she wanted. "As much as I would enjoy that, it's much more fun to do it with you rather then alone."

"Linda!"
