2025, San Diego, California

??

Joseph Joestar, frowning to himself, had his cheek slumped against the window of the train heading into the city of San Diego for the first time in his life. His eyebrow twitched in irritation as his body had been wrestling the American heat ever since he arrived in the states, his scarf he usually wore back home had become itchy and irritating making Jojo sweat profusely so he’d stuffed it into his luggage before he sat down, for the duration of time he had been persuaded to room with one of his mom’s students he would have to refuse wearing anything more than his cropped tank top with jeans.

Jojo raked a hand through his dark hair as his eyes darted down to his phone peeking out the pocket of his pants alerting him of a notification from Lisa Lisa, his tough-love mother who he couldn’t ever refuse an offer from as it came out of his mouth more like an order, the text from her simply read ‘Come here stupid boy you late’. Jojo didn’t expect any less from her and left the old lady on seen; going back to his relaxing view of his new home city. It didn’t seem like a hard place to love, the English countryside was sophisticated and upperclass though this place seemed more his personal style, he noticed the surplus of attractive ladies in groups of friends as the train whipped by leaving details only to his hyperactive imagination, the heat might be something to get used to though Joseph considered it worth the discomfort for a nice view and a good night out.
The student of his mother was more close knit with the woman than Jojo was, if didn’t cause him any jealously infact Jojo was more than happy to spent time away from her torture, from his knowledge this ‘student’ was a martial arts prodigy similar to himself and often Lisa Lisa berated Jojo calling him and lecturing about how he should be as refined as her incredible, talented, chivalrous, gentlemanly and intelligent pupil. Her and the student had met in Venice and moved to San Diego to be closer to the Joestar’s family friend Robert Speedwagon, one of the co-owners of a series of flats that spanned under the ‘Speedwagon Foundation’, free accommodation through connections gave her student his own nice place on the California coast. ‘Zeppeli’ was a name Jojo had grown up knowing well yet never had the opportunity to meet.

The train neared Joseph’s station, he stood up stretching his arms and loudly hauled his suitcase out the train and onto the bustling platform, he drew attention purely from his height and build which was only annoying when he knew very well he looked like ass after travelling for over 24 hours straight.

“Bloody hell mind your business, I need a facial and I’m craaaaving something deep fried.”

Jojo passively muttered to the onlookers, his tired voice seething with moodiness, he couldn’t wait to get to this place and just have a shower and order takeout. Google maps indicated that the apartments were only a short walk ahead from the station just a few blocks down, dragging the luggage behind him Joseph hurried across the streets so that nobody would have to look at him in this state of disorderliness, the entrance was small and almost out of the way but he was sure it was the right one. Jojo fumbled in his pockets and took out the room key Lisa Lisa gave posted to him a while ago and headed straight to the room hauling the suitcase up each stair as if there wasn’t a perfectly good elevator.

Five levels up Joseph began his search though the hallway squinting at each number until he found number 32. He sighed and tilted his head back triumphantly, in his seconds of bliss the key slipped from his fingers and onto the red patterned carpet, as Jojo bent down to grab the key his face was head-on smashed with the door. The crunch practically echoed down the hallway and he instinctively grabbed his face, his sea blue eyes rolled back a fraction and his skin felt warm and wet, bringing his palm up into the frame of his vison he could he scarlet liquid dribbling off onto the carpet – at least it blended well enough to not have to call Mr. Speedwagon about on his first day.
The individual responsible stood motionless behind the door, hand still on the doorknob and feet planted firmly like he wasn’t even planning on kneeling down to get a look at his damage, Joseph’s gaze met a scowl as he looked up to meet dark green eyes glaring right though him as if this man was trying to pierce a hole through him.

“Joestar?”

The man behind the door stepped out into the hallway and looked down at Joseph as he murmured curiously in a thick accent, his emerald eyes looked Jojo up and down with an unreadable expression, he looked around the same age as Joseph and had a muscular figure which immediately clued Jojo on to who he was, an olive complexion and honey-blonde curls didn’t perfectly match his mental image of his new roommate but it wasn’t common to see someone with the same physique as himself.
“YOU are the Caesar Zeppeli I came all the way here to meet??”
Jojo spat his words like a curse. Caesar rolled his eyes and crossed his arms, he stared at Joseph as if he was examining him, less like a painting in a museum but more like weird
taxidermy exhibit. His lip curved up slightly in feign disgust.

“…Miss Lisa Lisa left half an hour ago.”

Caesar bent down slightly but still out of the range for Jojo to reach up and beat his model face into the already dirtied carpet, the Italian wrinkled his nose and frowned before backing away retreating from where he came from, leaving the door open and the key still on the carpet. The white door had only a small bloodstain smeared across it beneath the doorknob where Jojo’s face had collided with the hard wood. Crimson beads of blood continued to trickle from his nostrils but the majority had dried out already, luckily he could withstand a minor blow, he wouldn’t let that asshole be the reason for him to lose his shit.
Standing up slowly on weakened knees Joseph gripped his key in one hand and his luggage in the other, exhaustedly hauling himself into the apartment and slamming the door behind him with only a passion that could be exuded from a man with jetlag and a recently fractured nose.

??

Jonathon ‘Johnny’ Joestar. Danville, Kentucky, was 2,350 miles away. Johnny didn’t regret leaving his old home one bit, infact we had glad to have it gone, getting a phone call that his cousin would happily give him a place to stay for free and in Cali no less was a miracle. Even more bizarre was that he was acquainted well with the co-owner of the flats – Mr. Steven Steel – the adoptive father of Johnny’s half sister. Getting away from the life that haunted him to go live near his younger sister in the sunshine state was more than a
miracle; it was a blessing.

The only downside was the only condition to his free-of-charge residency insisted on rooming with a family friend, Jojo didn’t mind completely, all he knew was this guy was a bit older and was a full-on surgeon too. He seemed mature and easy to handle to be fair. Johnny knew very openly he was more of an introverted person but having a fully employed grown adult around might even be, as his cousin Auntie Lisa Lisa stated; ‘good for him.’
Johnny had rolled in circles around the same two blocks of buildings looking for the apartment complex and he could sense his skin burning under the radiating sun, he wiped a drop of sweat from his freckled cheek and silently prayed to spot the entrance soon, he felt the nerves of moving getting to him. He hadn’t moved ever before in his life and if he got lost right now Johnny knew he’d be tearing up like a little kid as every possible situation would flash through his mind summoning thoughts about how he would be forced to
scourge through trash and spend the night sleeping on cardboard.

“I’m an adult. I’m a big strong man.”

Jojo breathed shakily as he hyped himself up, nervously tapping on the sides of his chair as his arms continued to skillfully maneuver him around the same bend for the third time, he groaned but held himself together. He’d gone through much more infuriating and definitely more rigorous situations, it was just the nuance of his environment that was getting to his head, brightening his mood completely Johnny’s sky blue eyes flickered to door he hadn’t spotted before, peering inside it was for sure an apartment complex, relief washed over him and he easily wheeled himself and the luggage inside and quickly went to the elevator.
As he waited for it to reach ground floor Johnny watched the little LED numbers above the metal doors tick down slowly getting gradually nearer to 0, he feared how painfully tedious it would be with the added weight of his bag and wheelchair, overthinking ridiculous things once again Johnny looked down at himself noticing how informal his appearance was to greet his new roommate. He wasn’t the sort of person to really care for impressions at all but if he was going to live with this guy the first thing he’d see Jojo his old equestrian sports club shirt and a ratty old pair of jeans plus his beanie that flattened his unkempt sandy blonde hair out of his face in the most unflattering way.

“Yeah, takes on awful while doesn’t it?”

An odd smooth voice came from above Johnny, turning his head faster than a whip Jojo looked up at a tall man staring up at the electronic numbers above the elevator, he had wavy golden hair that was long as a horses’ mane, it was the most noticeable thing about the stranger other than the scrubs he wore underneath a leather jacket like he’d just finished work. Noticing Johnny staring for far too long the man’s lime-green eyes travelled to meet Jojo’s gaze. He had a choppy slightly unshaved look and a nice tan, a straight nose and most prominently a wide crazed grin, one that drew all attention to a pair on metallic gold grills lining his teeth with some sort of phrase engraved in them.

“Uh, ‘guess so. Y’all just take the stairs usually?”

Johnny forced his eyes off the man and turned back to stare at the numbers tick from 3 to 2, his voice monotone in reply yet respectful enough to continue as just a passing conversation.

“I do uuusually… I’m just waiting for someone important today.”

The tall weird man explained, piquing Johnny’s interest enough to partake in conversation long enough that it wouldn’t be awkward.

“Oh, okay?”

“Yeahh~! I’m staying with some guy I’ve never even met.”

“…same I guess.”

The man excitedly pulled on his own hair and played with the strands twisting them round his fingers. He had such an expressive voice he came off as if he had been anticipating his meeting with much excitement. Johnny raise an eyebrow slightly puzzled, he nervously bit his nails, chipping his nail polish more than it already was.

“Level 5?”

“wha- yeah…”

The elevator dinged and slid open, the stranger pushing Johnny’s wheelchair inside without asking and punching in the button for level 5. Jojo was rightfully irritated but had no reason to speak up against it, the tall long-haired man leaned back against the wall and chuckled to himself making an odd ‘nyo-ho~’ sound, they waited in the longest silence Johnny had ever felt before they arrived at level 5.
