Chapter Text

Guilt. Regret. The sense of trying to have a use in a world that felt useless to live in.

These were the emotions Two Time felt since they had betrayed their beloved partner, Azure. Ever since they willingly abided by the words of the Spawn, they had been submerged in an overwhelming feeling of remorse. They had been washing over and over until their skin flaked in an attempt to feel normal, composed, 𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘯 even. They refused to come out of their cabin, even to pray to the Spawn, which they had been feeling guilty about, as they also thought they were betraying the Spawn by doing so. Everything was practically crumbling around them as they tried in a desperate attempt to keep a grip on the reality of the situation that Azure was actually dead.

Two Time visited the rotting corpse of the man, any time they were available to do so, as it was difficult. They WOULD be taking care of Azure's greenhouse, but they could barely step a foot near it when they got out of the cabin in the cruel regret they felt.

Eventually, after around 3 weeks, Two Time had finally mustered up the courage to come out of their cabin for a reason other than to place nightshades on Azure's corpse. Two Time was in the church, sat on a pew. They fidgeted anxiously with the end of their scarf, secretly praying to Spawn that Amarah would not notice them or that they would spot Amarah; the last thing they needed was to see him right now. As a cultist at the front of the church continued to quote verses from the holy book of the Spawn, they clasped their hands together in a prayer. They repeated the empty words of the cult, the feeling of dread returning as the usual light of Azure was not sitting beside them. Two Time continued whispering the words of the Spawn, and it finally started to ground them like usual.

After the prayers had finished, they began to walk home, hunched over on themself. They opened the door to their cabin, sighing with the familiarity of the place. Two Time made their way into their bedroom, undressing into comfier clothes, which were more suitable for sleeping in. They settled themself into bed, pulling the covers tightly in an attempt to hide themself away from the world. After 30 minutes of tossing and turning, they persuaded themself to sleep.

Two Time awoke in a beautiful field full to the brim of flowers brushing the tops of their boots. A silhouette stood in front of them, their back turned to them. It felt like a memory that had not been stored in their brain properly. The silhouette leaned down and picked a bunch of flowers out of the soil, turning to Two Time with a soft smile on their face. They recognised him instantly. It was Azure. He looked.. Beautiful. Just as beautiful as they could remember him, but... Something was off. Azure's face was horribly dismorphed. The sun seemed to shine too brightly over the field now, hyperfocusing on Azure. He began walking to Two Time, the flowers in a neat bundle in his hand. He reached out to them, seemingly going to pass them the mixed flowers.

"Do you regret what you did, Two Time?" The words came out of his mouth almost mockingly, a wide smile stretched out across his face.

"W-What?" Two Time stuttered, caught off guard by the pleasant smile on his face despite the tone of his voice.

They hesitantly reached out to Azure—or at least who they thought was Azure. They retracted their hand before they got too close, stepping back. The flowers began to wilt around the two, the petals curling in on themselves. Azure grew more and more disfigured by the second

"This isn't real, Two Time. Accept it. There is no 'second life'. There is no Spawn. YOU ARE LIVING A LIE."
