WHY
WHY!?
DID THEY….LEAVE ME?
The sun looked rapidly at his sides and felt…nothing…. his planets… All of the moons
Gone.
Now the only thing orbiting him were the lifeless asteroids belts around him
He felt the small gravitational pull of two little beings but at this point…who cared, they counted less as his planets and more like deserters rather than part of his own home
“Why….after everything I did…to protect them from themselves, to care for them so they aren’t destroyed… I worked really hard to make this work, to not be alone again…” The star muttered
“So WHY!? WHY IM BACK TO SQUARE ONE?” He screamed in frustration, but then sighted “Alone again…”
Ungrateful planets..
A thought forged in his mind
But…they were a happy family right?
He tried not to think badly of them, but the anger kept resurging, he tried to suppress that sinking feeling that things may never go back to normal
He turned to see his handmade roulette of possibilities and as always, the 2% of going back to normal haunted him
Will they really come back?
NO! What was he thinking? Of course they would!
They will be back soon, and everything will go back to normal! Like always! And this will only be a fun anecdote for the future….
Like when he ordered his planets by size
When planet X came back
When the moons took over
And this…will be the same…
Or maybe not
Maybe his planets had enough of him
“Please stop!” He remembered his conversation with Mercury, his voice…
“I know what you’re going to say Mercury, But look!” The sun turned around and showed him that stupid roulette he made
Mercury gulped but the sun kept that bright smile
“Sun! Everyone is tired of you! You don’t want to be corrected! You can NEVER be wrong and we had enough! So either you treat everyone as equals or….”
Or…..
….
Maybe..it was stupid to think Mercury was his best friend... Sun knew how he looked at the other planets longingly, he didn’t want to be tied with him, to be imprisoned in his orbit while the others where having fun, he wanted to be with others that were just like him
Because even if the sun didn’t admit if. He knew….their relationship was too unbalanced to be just friends, mercury always feared him since the beginning and his attitude towards his smallest planet didn’t help
Just like when Jupiter was young….He hadn’t wanted to stay with him in the inner system, always looking to be with his peers in the other side
Maybe it was just how things were meant to be
So if it always was going to be like this then….
The sun made a decision
If the planets want to be with fellow planets…Maybe…just maybe…
He needed to do the same thing
If this…system and planet thing was never meant to work out…
It was time for a change of space
“Hehe…space” The sun chuckled at his badly undercooked statement
Gazing at the stars he once feared, he always longed to be with them, but his planets were always an obstacle, and now his planets weren’t an impediment for him to reunite with the only being he might feel equal to
And for the first time in 4.6 billion years he took a step forwards… He almost lost balance
“U-huh!” The sun got surprised…always staying in one place made his body feel jittery when he finally moved, he felt like those old earthings who need a cane to walk or they will fall instead… or maybe like a toddler who just took his first step
“O-okay…the first step is always the hardest…” He moved a bit more and he had reached Venus orbit now
He took another step, and another and more and more until he started running
Why was this so freeing? It’s like he had grown wings and even stopped thinking about his troubles
Was this the freedom that his planets always sought?
He now understood them, free from the chains of his duty. In a moment of adrenaline he stopped and threw the asteroid and Kuiper belt away like a kid throwing a ball at a dog expecting it to return it back
But he knew no one would give it back
His last chain was gone
Now that it was gone and lost forever floating in space going in different directions. Maybe it could hit an exoplanet or something
With an almost childlike smile he ran away from his orbit with the energy he had, running towards a place that would welcome him before his braincells processed the atrocity he was doing
He remembered long ago….when his rocky planets were forming… He had received an invitation from the center of the galaxy
To a place full of beings like him where he would be welcome anytime
He originally declined the invitation, deciding to focus and nurture his growing system, and now that he failed, he had the opportunity to see what was in store for him
And maybe…if his planets saw him happy with other beings…they would feel abandoned and hurt
Just like he felt
…
The sun travelled a lot…. how many light years did he travel? Was it 26,000 or 27,000? Well, it didn’t matter now…he had arrived
The light of the main black hole was clearly visible, for a being that’s supposed to absorb all light it was thousands of times more luminous than most stars
The sun took a step back…. And finally remembered why he was so beat up in the first place about the other stars, why he gave them up so easily and turned to form a solar system when he was young…
What if..the other stars..bullied him? Just like Rigil and..Toliman..? The sun tried to keep those thoughts away and redirected his thoughts
But maybe not all the stars were like them! There was Proxima... yeah he saw her only for a short period of time but…she kind of defended him against her companions… Maybe not all stars were bullies…
But if they were then- He could leave now and forget about it..
“Hehe…” Sun turned the other way fidgeting with an asteroid he kept
But he was already there! Could he just….go back? Then did he only come here to back down at the last second?
He needed to stop being a coward and just start this new phase..if he didn’t like it..he could just throw himself into a blackhole or whatever..
Sun continued advancing until…It was there right in front of him…Sagittarius A, their central black hole
He was….gigantic and scary.. but also…sort of..conforting
Was this how his planets viewed him? Scary and unapproachable?
Now he could partially understand their feelings….
“Huh..” Sun sighted and gained a bit of courage, he approached the black hole and asked…
“H-hello? Is this.. Am I close to the… Star… meeting place?” Sun said nervously but tried putting on a big smile “I…it’s the first time I come here”
The black hole turned around, but not only him, some stars that were orbiting him too, although they didn’t pay much attention
It was weird for him having to speak to someone with higher authority…. All his life he had been the one that others mustered the courage to speak to him, not the other way around
“Oh…a new voice…” An unimaginable being with a powerful voice, he spoke slowly but the sun felt even his voice could move him from where he was standing
“You must be…” Sagittarius A looked to the side trying to guess this star’s name
“I-I’m..My names Sun!”
“Ah…The Sun.. Right….quite the name? It sounds powerful. Like a royal title” The black hole said
The sun couldn’t decipher the tone of his words
Seeing the star had gone quiet the black hole continued “Hmm I see you came all the way here for the star club..I’m flattered a Star like you came to… thid mess of a place” Sagittarius A closed his eyes and moved a star that was getting too close to him “The star reunion place is that way… And…don’t forget to have fun..Sun” He pointed to a far region, it was like a worm hole
“Oh- okay!” The sun nodded awkwardly and went to the signaled place, when getting close to the entrance he felt like he was getting spaghettified…
“Aah Ow!”
And just like that the sun disappeared from that place of the universe
But it turned out that….the sun wasn’t alone all this time
It turned out that…the new-ish star had company all along
Sagittarius A smiled when he saw the small beings chasing after the star and quickly took action “Oh no no darlings! Only stars can enter that place! No planets or satellites allowed...” He picked up the pair and thew them to another side
The planet and the moon got grabbed by the black hole and separated from its star, it was the first time…without his gravity…
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!” Both screamed
“Ah you see…I recognized your star because of his peculiar…satellites. Sagittarius chuckled “And you are…the Earth right? Your star is a lucky one, you know that? The star with a planet with life... How amusing is to observe you from up close…”
“S-sa ah- um” Both the planet and the moon were scared and didn’t know how to react to this…absolutely massive beast! The biggest object in the galaxy… The sun was an ATOM compared to this thing!
“Don’t rush with your introduction…take your time… In the meantime… you’ll stay here…while your star has fun…” Sagittarius A dropped them and put them in orbit “Can’t have the stars throwing a tantrum just because I let a planet in...” He chuckled
The thousands of objects and stars orbiting the central black hole were looking at him too, was it envy or just curiosity?
But the only feeling that the planet could have was…
Fear
Fear of the unknown
The Earth and Luna just looked right into the other’s eyes
“Earth is this-“
“Its very much real luna…” The planet said in a state of disbelief and then he turned around, his back to the black hole, appreciating the emptiness of space and the millions of distant stars that shone in harmony
“It is…truly… Real”
And meanwhile that was happening, a lonely star was about to enter a new world, full of new beings like him
