Chapter Text
Jane was having a normal day all things considered, but living in Gotham was bound to come with the few unexpected instances right?
So while it was slightly odd that this was the second time this week that she had had a gun pointed at her face she had to remember it was just bad luck, unfortunate and nothing to really worry about.
But she was getting really tired of running into these situations but hey that’s Gotham low rent high crime rates. Though if she kept this up she might just go broke anyway.
This time she had a gun pointed in the the general direction of her face she was walking back home from her job interview at the cafe that had opened last week and bam some random guy popped out of nowhere with a gun pointed at her face asking her for her money.
Because apparently there is no safe place for money in this city, the rouges clear the banks every 2 days and the streets well this was a prime example.
So back to getting robbed, she had very obviously decided to give the guy who in her defense was still pointing a probably loaded gun at her face all the money she had on her which was $38.54 for those curious.
Luckily for her once the guy got his money he ran. Jane now out of 39 dollars was debating if she should have stood her ground on her way to her original destination self defense classes were going to have to be put on the list of things she needed to do.
-—————————————-
The alley on the way to her apartment was extremely shady to say the least, and had definitely been the scene of many, many crimes some of which committed by people she knew.
For example her next door neighbors a lovely couple who one of if not both are most likely part of Penguins gang. Well unless the people in fancy suits were just there for drinks which actually, that sounds like something Mary would do so made not part of Penguins gang.
But there was no denying that John was a criminal she literally saw him stabbing someone her second day in the city for crying out loud!
But that’s totally normal in Gotham. Yes completely normal to live next to a probable murder. she was not going to let this city turn her insane. it was fine.
Were all her neighbors were sketchy? Yes. but they were also nice! Well by Gotham standards they were nice John waves every time he sees her, Mary and her husband Adam have definitely warmed up to her since she moved in even exchanging pleasantries with her when they pass her in the hall they even brought her some cookies the other day!(they were burnt but it’s the thought that counts)
She walked down the dark alley the felling of light rain making her think of her first day in the city.
-————————————
She was in her car going to the most crime ridden city in New Jersey, as she listened to the rain pounding on her car she took a moment to think about her mental stability.
With what little belongings she had rattling in a box beside her in the passenger seat. Gotham City wasn’t her first choice when she decided she needed a change of scenery from her little town in no where Wisconsin where her parents had lived but it was the one with the cheapest rent.
There was nothing wrong with her small town hell she loved it there but after her dad died she just couldn’t be there anymore everything reminded her of her father she couldn’t take it.
So a change of scenery was in order and what is the most different place from Wisconsin you may ask? Gotham City the most gloomy, smog filled, and crime ridden City in Jersey. Well at least that’s what she heard, she’s never actually been.
She past a sign announcing her arrival in Gotham City she had a apartment already in mind and had called the landlord of the place on the way it was just barely outside Crime Alley and hadn’t been destroyed recently so it was good enough for her.
Though she might honestly sell her car because after less than 30 minutes in this place she had almost died three times from the lack of stop sign usage going on and the traffic was a nightmare.
But she did it! She got to the apartment talked to landlord gave her first months rent and placed her one box of belongings on the floor of her newly acquired apartment.
Then she remembered food was a thing that people needed for living and now that it was officially 8:00am restaurants were actually open. Deciding that was the next step in her plan she walked out of her apartment building and into the alleyway that looked like it was the least likely to kill her (though she still had her suspicions).
The alley was dirty, dark, and more than a little creepy it was also new and something she wasn’t to use to. It was alive with noise far off gunshots that she was slightly worried about, clanging metal and loud angry voices.
She was to busy noticing all of these things to notice the person that was quickly approaching her this was the mistake that made her lose most of her money.
When she finally noticed that someone was walking towards her she froze eyes widening when she saw the knife in the woman’s hand so like any normal person she gave the woman her money.
Well, most of it. made it was dumb but she was extremely hungry and to be honest it was worth it, as after the whole getting robbed thing she went to the first burger place she saw which happened to be Batburger who by the way have the best fries she ever had so it was worth it.
