And I Will Be By Your Side, in Every Universe

Summary:

A One Piece AU of a highschool life. Drama, angst, fluff... maybe multiple pairings... includes many headcanons. And more than just the Straw Hats, this fic includes side characters and stories such as the Revolutionary Army, Marines, The Worst Generation, Wano etc. so it's more of a modern AU just usually based in highschool. More tags will be added as i explore more themes in the future chapters.

Notes:

HII !! I've been wanting to do this forever. so welcome!! take a seat and enjoy my silly little fic i may update regularly.. or not. i am a 12th grade numerical student, give me a break.. /silly

a little disclaimer. i am not english and i have dyslexia so please dont mind any mistakes i make. im preparing for IELTS exam right now so i do think im not very bad as my expected scores 7+ but still!

the first chapter is more like an introduction so there isnt really much story! its just introducing luffy zoro nami and the sides. itll probably be a collection of oneshots in the same AU or maybe a few chapters that work together. storywise it is all connected, yes, but also not. so it might be boring now, which is why i will publish multiple chapters at the same time along with the beginning!! happy reading!

Chapter 1: 1: The Three Menaces

With his chest going up and down not very calmly unlike what you'd expect from a normal person, the boy with messy black hair was laying on his bed sprawled out like a starfish. He was laying on a floor matress due to the amount of times he has broken his past bedframes before. In his defense, beds were too fun to jump on, but apparently also too weak to carry his weight. Just as he was reaching with the giant meat on a bone with a long, stretchy arm, the sun spoke.

"...late... school... ffy..."

"What?" The boy was a little shaken. He managed to open one sleepy eye and look up, only to see his brother. The one that had a life at least.

"Luffy. You're going to be late to school again if you sleep a little more." Sabo said with a gentle tone as always. Tall, decently built and kind. He wore a button up shirt with a baby blue vest on top of it, a lovely jabot holding a gem on the neck. As if he was going to something formal... or coming from it, despite the time being 7 a.m. currently.

Luffy rubbed his eye. He wasn't used to seeing the blonde in weekdays. "...Sabo? Why're you here?" He said with a slur in his voice. Sabo lived in his university dormitory usually and only came in weekends or holidays.

Sabo sighed. "Ace got arrested... again. I have to pick up his documents and go pay the bail. Again."

A common occurence. The local cops were tired at this point. They already were avoiding actually putting him in jail due to underground consequences thanks to the guy's guardian, but the local menace was getting too much. This was the second time this month and apparently he wasn't alone. Sabo heard in the call that apparently he dragged a giant of a person along with his antics who smashed a statue with a metal bat.

"Haha... that's my brother..." Luffy said still sleepily.

"It's not something to be proud of, Luffy." Sabo crossed his arms. "I can't keep on turning a blind eye to this."

"Hah. Blind eye...."

"Luffy!"

"Get it. You have one blind eye."

"I... I know Luffy, it wasn't intended as a joke."

Lucky for him, Sabo had brought a package for Luffy to eat this morning. The brothers usually ate takeout in weekdays and if the week has just started, they would eat weekend leftovers. Only Sabo was to be trusted in a kitchen. Ace and Luffy were banned from being near the stove. Especially Ace, that pyromaniac... But hey, food was food for Luffy. So he very gladly ate his breakfast as he ran to the school. Well, moreof inhaled his breakfast.

He opened the door while trying to catch his breath. Gasping, he raised his hand. "...Here..!"

Mrs. Nico however was already on the board. "I didn't take a role call yet, Luffy. You can sit down." The history teacher kindly smiled. Mrs. Nico was definitely Luffy's favourite teacher, she was not only an exceptional teacher in her field but also very motherly. As their homeroom teacher also, she was very attentive to the students and their homelives.

Luffy sat down on his seat, placing his ragged bag next to his best friend. Zoro was already sleeping on the desk. Classic... if he went on like this Mrs. Nico would have to contact his father again. NOT a good thing.

"You're late again, dumbass." Nami gave Luffy a whack on the back of his head. She was even more strict than their teachers if he was honest. She could be very sweet, yes, she could use her big cute eyes to get what she wanted but only if she wanted something. The trio has been friends since the start of the year. They had met rather absurdly. Luffy had known Zoro for years due to their fathers being work partners and they had messed up together this year... Nami meanwhile was caught stealing. So their first meeting was the detention classroom, nothing else to do but tell each other what they did to mess up. Zoro and Luffy had fistfighted a grown man because of his son in the school grounds while Nami had stolen a big amount of money from multiple students.

"Heeyyy... that hurt!" Luffy said with a pouty face.

Nami crossed her arms as she shot him a glare. "Deserved. You owe me lunch today, remember?"

"I forgot... yeah.." Luffy shrugged. "I'll make Zoro pay anyway. His dad's a money bag."

"I don't care who pays as long as I get my free lunch. And your dad's a money bag too, asshole!"

The short, chubby girl with a newspaper cap and bobbed hair knocked the principal's door with her gloved hand, calling out. "Sir Dragon?" Asked the assisstant of the Vice President. "May I enter please?"

"Of course." Dragon's deep voice answered. As the headmaster of the Grand University, Dragon was almost always in his office doing work. He looked at the girl entering with a kind, almost fatherly expression. "Good morning, Koala."

"Good morning Sir." She answered formally. "I am here to inform you that Vice President Sabo had to leave early. Apparently his 'twin brother' got into trouble again..."

Dragon sighed. "That boy can never stay out of trouble can he... I see. Do you want to take over his work today, Koala, dear?"

Koala seemed extremely unimpressed by that. So much that she broke formality. "...You know I'd rather break my own arm than to do all that stupid paperwork, old man."

The answer made Dragon laugh a little. "Understood, understood... I'll deal with it. No need to worry."

Just then the tall, purple curled diva entered the office room with his heels tapping loudly. You could recognise that sound anywhere without a shadow of a doubt. "Drago-boy." Ivankov called out as she leaned her hip on the desk. Ivakov, or Iva for short, despite his exaggerated acts and beaming personality was one of the most brilliant sex surgeons in the entire world.

"Yes?" Dragon looked up to the president.

"Here's the mumbo jumbo you asked for." Ivankov placed down a clipboard on the desk. Then clasped her hands together, "And you're here too, Koala darling~ How is everything going?"

"...Iva, you saw me just yesterday."

"Well I still wanna hear!"

"Going alright... but this year's students are a pain to deal with." Koala sighed.

"Don't I know love. Now leave, I have to talk adult business with Drago-boy." Ivankov shooed.

Koala's brows furrowed. "I AM an adult!!"

"20 doesn't count as adult. You're still baby. Shoo."

....

"You could be kinder when doing that." Dragon offered.

Ivankov rolled his eyes. "I did it to keep your cool image up. You're welcome."

"What do you mean?" Dragon had a large reputation as a cool, coldblooded man among everywhere. He was taken back, though, both Koala and Sabo knew that was a lie so why would they kick Koala out?

"The monthly alcohol order is here."

"So..? Koala is of drinking age. Even if she wasn't I fail to see why she would need to be kicked out for you to talk about this."

"Ugh." Iva rolled her eyes. "AN-NI-VER-SA-RY! ANNIVERSARY YOU ANCIENT LIZARD! I'm asking how much alcohol do you need this year's anniversary to cry all night by yourself rather than making our heads ache by talking about it?!"

...

Dragon's face immediately fell off. His eyes got tearry.

"It's... it's in one week, right..." His hands started to tremble again.

"You big baby..." Ivankov sighed. "It's been 20 years, Dragon.

"17!"

"STILL A LONG ASS TIME!"

....There was one thing even a man like Dragon couldn't get over.

Luffy was binging his food as usual as he sat in the caféteria with Zoro and Nami, Zoro having paid as usual. Their chat had came to an end as both boys were eating like animals.

"Slow down. You're going to choke." Nami deadpanned. She still had no idea how she ended up with these two.

"Nom.. nom... we'll eat so good next week.." Luffy said as his cheeks were full.

"My dad will let me drink." Zoro nodded as he ate.

Nami meanwhile was left out. "...what?"

The school caféteria was large, real large. A lot of people's chitters and chatters could be heard coming from everywhere. Yet despite all this, thanks to their reputation not being the best, the trio could have their own little corner. Since the first day they were sitting on the same location by the windows, the same table. People always avoided it because 'those' sat there.

"Mmh! We forgot to tell you!!" Luffy wiped his mouth excitedly. "Each year around this time, our parents throw this huge party! There's people, food, there's drinks, celebrating..."

"Oh..? That sounds interesting..." Nami was already interested, looking evil. "What are they celebrating?"

Luffy blinked once. Then twice. Not a single thought behind those eyes.

"...You don't know."

Zoro shrugged. "Some kind of anniversary or something. Who cares. Free food and we get to drink."

"You get to drink. My mom doesn't let me." Luffy looked at Zoro sadly.

Zoro sighed. "I'll take two glasses and say it's for me alright?"

"YAAYYY!!"

"I'm coming too!" Nami decided. "I'm your friend now. I come too or I'll feel left out." Obviously that wasn't her intention... but Nami was Nami.

"Don't you dare steal anything. There's a bunch of security AND my dad will slice you to six little orange pieces." Zoro just said.

"Ugh. Fine. I'm still coming for the free food and the drinks."
