(HEY. i know this is a common intro, but trust the process dont stop reading.)
- SETTING: SPROUT’S HOUSE -
Light pours in the bedroom, hovering over Sprout’s face. His eyes flutter open, a groan escaping from his mouth. He squints at the ceiling, letting his mind wander through the list of things he’ll have to survive today, math quiz, cafeteria line, that one kid who never stops humming. Rolling onto his side, he drags a hand over the messy bedspread, muttering under his breath about mornings being cruel.
“Just another Monday morning, yay..” Sprout mutters to himself sarcastically.
He sits up, his leafy hair an absolute mess. His fingers run through the strands, trying in vain to tame them, before he swings his legs over the side of the bed. The floor feels cold beneath his feet, and he shuffles toward the bathroom, still half-dreaming about how his school day will go.
Sprout drags himself through the usual motions, showering, brushing his teeth, and slinging clothes over his hair, before grabbing his bag and heading out the door. Nothing exciting, just another Monday, right?
- SETTING: SCHOOL -
Sprout speed-walked through the halls, dodging backpacks and scattered students as he rapidly went for his second-period class. His leafy hair bounced slightly with each hurried step, and he muttered under his breath about how crowded school was.
Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted Astro and Shelly leaning against a locker, laughing at something they joked about. Sprout’s pace slowed, a small grin tugging at his lips as he waved.
“Hey, guys!” he called, his voice carrying just enough to catch their attention without drawing too much notice from the passing crowd.
“Hi, Sprout. Have you seen the new student?” Astro asked.
“There’s a new student?” Sprout replied, a curious expression crossing his face.
“Yeah! And you know me, I had to introduce myself first,” Shelly said, practically bouncing with excitement. “He seemed pretty cool. I’ll show you him at lunchtime, okay?”
She paused, then added, “Oh! And he came with someone else, so there’s two new students. They’re both pretty cute, especially that girl with the platinum hair.”
“Sweet. Can’t wait to meet them, Shells,” Sprout said, adjusting his bag. “We should get to class, though. See you!”
“Alright, see you at lunch!” Shelly called, already turning on her heel.
Astro gave a small wave before following after her, leaving Sprout alone in the stream of students.
Time seemed to slowly drag after that. Each class blurred into the next, the ticking clock louder than anything the teachers had to say, until finally, lunch started.
The bell rang loudly, and students rushed out of their classrooms, filling the hallways with noise and chatter.
Sprout walks sighs, bumping into kids as he made his way to his usual lunch spot with his friends
Sprout sighed, bumping into a few kids as he made his way to his usual lunch spot with his friends. The hallway was louder than usual, voices overlapping and echoing off the walls, but none of it really stuck. His mind kept drifting back to what Shelly had said earlier.
- SETTING: SCHOOL YARD -
Sprout breathed in the spring air, a small smile tugging at his lips. His footsteps were quiet against the pavement as he followed the usual path, the familiar route almost second nature by now.
When he reached the spot, though, he paused. Astro and Shelly were already there, but they weren’t alone. Someone unfamiliar stood with them.
Sprout walked up to Shelly, but before he could say anything, she grabbed his wrist and pulled him right in front of the unfamiliar person.
“Shelly—!” Sprout started, his voice laced with confusion and a hint of panic.
“Yay! You’re here!” she exclaimed, practically bouncing with excitement. “Sprout, this is Cosmo! Cosmo, this is Sprout.”
Sprout’s expression softened as he examined this new student. After a few moments, Sprout smiles brightly and he reaches his hand out, his eyes lighting up as Cosmo took his hand and shook it.
Sprout’s expression softened as he took in the new student. After a moment, a bright smile spread across his face as he reached out his hand, his eyes lighting up when Cosmo took it and gave it a gentle shake.
“It’s nice to meet you,” Sprout said, a little more eager than he meant to sound.
Cosmo hesitated for a second before offering a small smile. “Yeah… you too.”
“Okay, okay, introductions done!” Shelly clapped her hands, practically bouncing in place. “Now sit. We’re eating together!”
She didn’t wait for an answer, already dragging everyone down to the usual spot. Sprout barely had time to react before he found himself sitting beside Cosmo.
He looked over his shoulder, his gaze shifted to how Cosmo eats. He carefully ate, trying not to spill anything or leave crumbs everywhere.
He quickly looked away, realizing that he’s staring. He then tries to start up some conversation with him.
“So, uh… how are you liking the school so far?” he asked, trying to sound casual as he looked back at Cosmo.
Cosmo paused for a moment, glancing up from his food. “It’s… nice,” he said quietly. “Still getting used to everything, though.”
Shelly leaned forward immediately, grinning. “I told you it wasn’t that bad! You just need us around.”
Astro gave a small nod in agreement, though his attention stayed mostly on his food. Astro is usually not so talkative around new people.
Cosmo let out a soft, almost shy laugh at that, his shoulders relaxing just a little. “Yeah… I guess that helps.”
After 20 minutes of chatting and eating, the bell rang. Sprout says bye to everyone, a bright smile on his face as he walks away.
Throughout the rest of Sprout’s classes, his mind lingers back to Cosmo. Just small things that kept slipping in between thoughts. A quiet voice, a careful smile, the way he held his food like he didn’t want to make a mess.
Sprout frowned slightly, tapping his pencil against his desk.
Weird.
“These are all good traits, I dont see the problem in becoming friends. He seems cool…” Sprout thought.
By the time school let out, Sprout found himself walking his usual route home. The afternoon sun stretched across the pavement, warm but not overwhelming, and the streets buzzed quietly with passing conversations and distant traffic.
His bag rested against his shoulder as he walked the route he takes like any other day.
For the most part, his mind stayed quiet, just the rhythm of the day settling in.
Just a new friend!
