Work Text:

You were pregnant.

Rats. You were pregnant.

Sylus didn’t know yet. You sat on the toilet seat, positive pregnancy test trembling in your hands. You had to get rid of it. Before Sylus or Mephisto caught sight of it. You exhaled forcefully, trying to calm your nerves. You would deal with this. You could deal with this.

You shoved the test in your pocket and pushed the restroom door open. Sylus wasn’t going to come home today. He had things to attend to. You didn’t know how to tell him, or if you even should. would he love this- no, your, baby?

Sylus was cold with everyone but you. And even then it took time for him to drop his guard around you. What about your baby? You needed to do something. Leave? Hide? You had done that before and Sylus hadn't done anything too drastic. You only needed a year at most and then maybe he would forget about you.

You decided you would wait until the last possible moment to leave. You would wait until you started showing.

Then, you would leave.

(●´ω`●)

Surprisingly you didn't show too much. You had only seemed to gain some weight, not that Sylus seemed to notice. He didn't even raise a brow at you newfound eating habits. Midnight ice cream runs. 3AM toast with pickles. He had even indulged you in these... habits.

Sylus interpreted your new eating habits as you finally growing comfortable with him. He had noticed you gaining weight, but he didn't care. It didn't change how he saw you. You had become moodier though. You cried over movies that you usually watched with a straight face. But you were just getting comfortable with him, right? Finally letting down your barriers too?

Sylus headed towards the bedroom to inform you that dinner was done, but froze in the doorframe. You were staring at your belly in the mirror with a blank look. Oh no. He strided over to you and hugged you from behind, placing his hand on your belly.

Had you become self-conscious of your weight?

He nuzzled into your neck, planting soft kisses. Hoping to distract you from what he thought was bothering you.

(●´ω`●)

You had been staring at your belly for the past 10 minutes.

You had felt your baby kick for the first time.

You didn't notice Sylus in the doorway to your shared room, nor did you notice him approaching you until his arms wrapped around your waist. He planted his hands firmly on your stomach. You would feel your heartbeat start to quicken. Did he know? No. That's impossible. You were just jumping to conclusions. If Sylus knew he would've confronted you about it. Right? You brought a hand up to Sylus's head, running your hands through his hair. You wished you could read his thoughts. That would make everything so much easier.

You had loved the attention Sylus was giving you. He seemed to be more caring and attentive to your needs the past 5ish months, but you still couldn't help but worry what he would think of your baby. You imagined telling him, but all you could think of is him being disgusted. Him asking, "Is it a boy?" What if your baby was a girl? Would he even love your baby? You couldn't take the risk.

You waited for the perfect moment. Sylus had a big meeting up ahead and was going to be gone for a month. Perfect. The day he left, you started putting your plan in motion.

Money? All taken care of. You had opened a separate bank account and moved enough money that you wouldn't have to worry for at least a year or 2. And if things were dire, you could use Sylus's black card that he gave you.

House? You bought a good sized house somewhere Sylus would never expect you to go. Somewhere quiet. You packed comfortable clothes. Ones that didn't scream luxury, but instead new mom. You had to blend in.

You glanced at your side of the closet, all your t-shirts, which you didn’t have many of, were packed in your suitcase. Your gaze finally fell on Sylus's side of the closet. Suits. Sweaters. He had very comfortable sweaters. Ones that you often found yourself wearing in the winter times. Which, unknowing to you, drove Sylus crazy when you wore them. He absolutely adored you in them. You hesitated. It was nearing winter. Aand you needed warm clothes. It wouldn't hurt to just take a few. You grabbed the ones that were your favorites, which turned out to be all of them. "He wouldn't miss them," you reasoned, talking to your baby, "and plus, he can always buy more." With that, your packing was finished.

You arrived at your new house. It was a modern designed house in a plain suburban neighborhood. Completely opposite of the luxury you were used to. You only had a few bags. The house was already furnished, except the baby's room, which you wanted to design yourself. You didn't have much to worry about, besides settling in and unpacking your clothes.

You had unpacked all of your suitcases but one. The one that had Sylus's sweaters in it. You didn't know why you were hesitating opening it. You took in a deep breath and opened the suitcase like you were ripping off a band-aid. Your gaze immediately fell upon the sweaters. You picked one up without thinking and clutched it to your chest.

Streams of water started falling down your cheeks, plopping onto your thighs. Why were you crying? You didn't need him. You and your baby would be fine.

The next day you received a knock on your front door. You rushed to the front door, thinking the worst. He couldn't have found you already. He was still on his mission! You peeked through the peephole, but all that you saw was a family of 3 standing on your porch. You slowly opened the door, clutching the sleeve of Sylus's sweater you had worn to bed last night.

"How can I help you?"

"Oh! Hello dear! We just live right next to you there and were hoping to welcome you to the neighborhood," the woman beamed, holding out a pot of soup. A boy, seemingly 5, clutched her pant leg and looked up at you with wide eyes. You couldn't help but melt at the sight, a hand coming to rest on your swollen stomach.

"Thank you so much!" You replied cheerfully. You could feel your mouth watering at the divine smell of the food she had brought.

The woman's eyes had widened and glanced to your hand covering your stomach.

"Oh my-! Are pregnant, dearie?"

You stared at her in surprise before nodding hesitantly.

"Oh-! Here, let me come in and set this down. You don't need to be carrying anything at this stage!"

You moved to the side and watched as the family sidled into your home, the man giving you a slight greeting when he walked past you. The woman, whose name was Mary, set the pot on the counter in your kitchen and turned back towards you.

"Is your husband home dear? He should be helping you around the house, especially if you just moved in," she huffed.

You froze, your brain thinking of a story to answer her question.

"Oh," you chuckled awkwardly, "my husband... he disappeared a month ago and I moved to get a fresh start for me and our baby." Our baby. You had never said that out loud. But the word brought tears to your eyes. Our baby.

Mary rushed over and gave you a firm hug, wiping your tears, "Oh darling- I'm so sorry. You don't need to worry about anything. Me and my husband- we'll help you with anything you need! Don't be afraid to ask!"

"Thank you so much. I really appreciate your kindness," you sniffled.

Sylus came home to an empty house. He frowned at the silence. Usually you had the lights on in the foyer, but this time they were off. Had you went out? He lined his shoes by the door and headed towards your shared room. Lights off. So you weren't here. You must've gone out with friends or something.

When you hadn't returned for a week, he started to become antsy. He had noticed the missing clothes and his missing sweaters. Had you run away again? You had done that multiple times. Whenever you were upset at him, or wanted to feel independent. Were you mad that he had been away for so long? If so, then you would return soon.

But you didn't. At least not yet. It had been 2 months. Double the time he had been away from the house. 3 months without seeing you. He had sent Mephisto to check on you but the bird couldn't find you. This annoyed him. Did you really think you could hide? He sent Mephisto out again, "Don't come back until you've found her."

(●´ω`●)

You gave birth a month early. It was hard and painful and throughout the whole thing you wished Sylus was there with you. You had even called out his name several times during the birth of your children. Children. You had 2 of them and they both looked just like their father. You had given birth to a girl- Sabrine and a boy- Ronan.

They were your pride and joy.

You stared down at their tiny precious faces laying against your chest. Tears streamed down your face. You were so happy they were born. Both you and Sylus's kids-

NO.

You couldn't think like that. They were your kids. Just yours.

You could feel a pang in your heart at the realization:

.

.

.

You missed him.

☆〜(ゝ。∂)

Sylus was fuming. He had been called to back-to-back meetings and missions, with no time to look for you himself. 5 months. Hadn't you punished him long enough? Or... had you been kidnapped? At that thought, he immediately sent Luke and Kieran to begin searching for you. He would find you.

(●´ω`●)

You had been released from the hospital with your babies. Mary was especially helpful in teaching you how to care for them. When to feed them. What to do when they wouldn't stop crying. A year passed slowly, yet quickly. You watched as Sabrine and Ronan grew up. They grew up rather quickly, in your opinion. They had just begun to walk and babble. They were the rubies of your eye.

╰(*´︶`*)╯♡

Sylus pulled up to a white suburban house. This is where he had confirmed that you were staying. It had taken him 1 year and 5 months to find you. He never would have guessed you would prefer living in a house like this rather than an expensive mansion. You had always had expensive taste. He stepped out of the car, into the chilly fall.

He approached the house and knocked.

(●´ω`●)

You were lounging on your couch, watching TV and your children play with their toys on the floor in front of you. You let out a sigh. The TV show you were watching was extremely boring and you longed for someone's company. That's when you heard a knock on the door. You shot up immediately. Was it Mary? You quickly walked to the door and opened it.

.

.

.

It was not Mary.

You looked at him in shock and began to close the door. He very quickly opened it again, placing one hand on the door frame while the other hand held flowers.

"Sweetie-"

"Sylus," you cut off, giving him a glare, tears pricking in your eyes. You took a step back, shaking your head as you tried to clear them. No. You couldn't give in. You had to tell him to leave.

Sylus watched as you tried to clear the tears from your eyes. He gently set the flowers down and approached you carefully, as if you were a kitten that would dart at the littlest scare. He pulled you into an embrace, rubbing your back gently.

"Why did you leave, Sweetie?"

When he said that, tears began to flow and you didn't have the energy to hold them back. You had missed him. Sobs racked your body as you grabbed onto the back of his jacket. You forgot all your previous worries. His arms acting as a shield against them. You had missed him.

Another wail sounded in the living room that made you freeze. You instantly untangled yourself and went to the living room. Ronan was crying. You sat on the floor and gently picked him up, rocking back and forth, trying to soothe him.

Sylus slowly followed, awe dawning on his face when he saw the toddler in your arms. Your own face was red with tear stains, but you didn't care as you tried to comfort your baby. Sylus's eyes soon fell upon another child, this time a girl. She looked just like him. He watched as she shot him a glare, as if saying that her brother's crying was his fault. He approached slowly and sat down, rubbing his hand up and down your back.

Ronan stopped crying when his gaze caught sight of Sylus. You watched as Ronan turned towards Sylus, curiosity dawning on the baby's face. You leaned slightly towards Sylus, holding out Ronan to him. "Ronan," you murmured, "that's his name." You felt Sylus's hand move from your back to hold Ronan. You turned towards Sabrine and gathered her in your arms as well. "This is Sabrine."

You watched his awestruck features with quiet joy and apprehension.

"Sabrine... and Ronan. They're mine?" He asked turning his gaze towards you, full of hope.

"Huh? Of course they are," you smiled, surprised at his question.

You carefully handed him Sabrine, both of them sitting in his lap now.

Sylus carefully caressed their tiny heads. Ronan had his hair and eyes, but his face looked just like yours. "Is this why you left," he whispered, moving his gaze towards you.

You flinched slightly, not meeting his gaze out of guilt. "I- I thought you... wouldn’t want them," you mumbled, shifting your gaze to look at his face.

He looked at you with eyes full of love and disbelief. "why wouldn't I want our children," he murmured, cupping your face. He pressed soft kisses to your temple and cheeks.

He pulled you into an embrace, sandwiching the children between the two of you. Ronan let out a disgruntled whine while Sabrine grunted in protest.

You chuckled, your eyes rounding with affection. “Meet your papa, my babies,” you murmured, pressing a kiss to each of their foreheads.
