Work Text:
The funeral at the largest Baptist church in Dallas came out as thousands upon thousands remember Cordell Beauregard Walker who died from natural causes and retired as a Captain in the Texas Rangers and a former US Marine Force Recon.
His wife who survived a near fatal shootout at the courthouse, Alex Cahill Walker with grad student daughter, Angela or Angie who hopes to be a child therapist as her parents discouraged her from going into law enforcement over the dangers.
Jimmy Trivette the best friend and partner that retired as a LT and his wife and two children.
Francis Gage and Sydney Cooke Gage as the LT and Captain respectively at the Texas Rangers also married, and with their two teenage children.
It was a very packed church and there were also way too many people waiting outside showing the love and respect as some were people from his martial arts club and some from the Armed Forces and law enforcement.
To say there wasn't a dry eye left in the church was an understatement. Everybody whom was Walker's family and friends had the funeral short but sweet and to the point. The way he would want it to be! Walker was a man over in a few words and wasn't one to have or even like the spotlight on him as a team player.
Not just a team leader. Like it or not they were going to give him a proper farewell.
A pastor, a Marine buddy that Cordell kept in touch with, Jimmy who brought the laughter in the church how he and Walker met. And still kept in touch until his passing, and Alex who tried to keep it together despite the tears falling. With their daughter softly whispering to her mom "It's OK!"
Afterwards as the coffin that was in an US flag and with those that were having a secret invitation to the burial that would be in a Veteran's cemetery to be, crowded out until the last person was gone. In their cars and driven out from the church.
Before one part over in the audience as there were three sections over in crowds would pile out and leave in an orderly but quiet and kind manner. Waiting for ten minutes! Then the second section, ten minutes or so, and finally the last section.
Then after Walker's coffin would go and be buried, laid to rest in his earthly forever home. The 21 gun salute, the playing over in "Taps!" And giving the American flag to Alex his widow, who has also retired from the DA's office.
A found and beautiful send-off to Cordell B Walker!
