Work Text:

Eddie clutched the cold metal door knob, which sent a rush of cold up his arm, and a small spark of feeling awake. He turned the knob, stepping inside. He was welcomed with the smell of baked goods, laundry detergent, and Buck. Eddie wasted no time taking off his shoes and darting towards the sound of shuffling in the kitchen. The tension in his shoulders released immediately when light blue eyes met his.

"Hey, Eds. You look beat." Buck walked towards Eddie, kissing his forehead. Eddie nodded in reply, his head now rested on his partner's broad shoulder.

"Did you eat at the firehouse?" Buck muffled into Eddie's hair. "Mm, Yeah." Buck ran a hand up and down Eddie's back. "Shower?" Eddie nodded once more. "Quick one before I left...Just want you. And bed." He chuckled. Buck smiled and guided Eddie down the dim hallway to their shared bedroom.

Once in the room, he sat Eddie on the edge of the bed, then turning around to grab comfy clothes. Eddie's favourite sweatpants and a tank top. He laid the nicely folded articles of clothing next to Eddie, then grabbed his own pajamas and changed as well. Eddie leaned back onto the headboard, sighing. "Hey, don't fall asleep yet." Buck demanded. Eddie shot him a tired, yet sassy look. "It is my house, you know." Eddie retorted.

"Well, I wanna snuggle and talk, is that so bad?" Buck smiled then flopped next to Eddie, reaching out and pulling Eddie close. Buck reached down and pulled the duvet over them both.

"Cozy?" Eddie let out a hum of contentement.

"Where's Chris?" Eddie asked after a couple minutes of comfortable silence. Of just listening to each other's soft breathing, and the occasional swallow. Buck ran his forefinger around Eddie's upper and forearm, tracing random little shapes. "He's doing a project at a friend's house. Something about planets."

"Did you know that Lego owns a star in space?" Eddie nuzzled into the crook of Buck's neck and exhaled. "Hm, really?" He sounded tired already.

"Mhm! And it's located super close to the North Star. They got it in '97, for the 65th anniversary of Lego as a company. Isn't that cool?" Buck knew Eddie wasn't listening a whole lot, he could feel the weight on his chest growing heavier by the second. Buck's voice always lulled him to sleep.

"Hm..." Was all Eddie mustered up for a reply.

Buck lowered his voice volume. "There's more stars that we know of in space than grains of sand on Earth. It's nuts." No reply this time.

Buck gazed down at Eddie, who had a forearm, and loose fist across Buck's stomach, his other resting on his own. His cheek squished slightly against Buck's collarbone, his warm breath tickled Buck's adams apple. He smiled and kissed Eddie's temple. "Wasn't much of a talk, love." He chuckled. "But that's okay. After you get at least eleven hours of sleep we can. I love you, Eddie."

Eddie inching more on top of Buck was the only response he got.
