Chay ran as fast as his little 6-month-old kitten legs could carry him, desperately wishing someone would come save him before that drooling mouth chomped down on his soft, fluffy fur.
“Help! Somebody help me!”- The little one screamed, backing into a corner and raising his soft, stubby paws in a threatening pose. If this had happened inside the house, Namphueng’s mom would probably have whipped out her phone to record this adorable scene.
His weak little cries were loud enough to catch the attention of a few cats peering down from above. But instead of helping, they just watched as the ferocious dog cornered him against the wall.
“What’s going on?”- Another black cat suddenly spoke up, his nap rudely interrupted by the commotion nearby.
“Just some poor house cat getting mauled by Ben”- The Tabby cat with one missing eye drawled lazily as he sprawled out, flicking his tail with feigned indifference at the horrifying scene unfolding among the stray cats. But none of them expected their leader, who had just been stretching and about to fall back asleep, to suddenly leap down.
“Easy there, Beny. This kid is my friend”
Chay squeezed his eyes shut, bracing for that mouth to bite him, but nothing happened. Instead, he heard a voice and there was a black cat standing protectively in front of him.
“Since when did you get yourself such a tasty-- I mean, cute little guy, Kim?”- The old dog suddenly stopped, its long tongue licking around its mouth as it stared intently at the tiny kitten behind him.
“It’s a long story, but this little one needs to go home now”- The Black cat replied, stepping back before gently grabbing the scruff of the kitten’s neck and leaping away, leaving the furious dog to grumble and go look for other entertainment.
“You killed it, boss!”- As soon as Kim set the little one down, a group of cats immediately crowded around to stare at the tiny white fluffball huddled beside their boss.
Before Chay could even get a good look, the big cat used his front paw to pat-pat the kitten’s head, then pushed the others aside so he could continue his interrupted nap.
“Thank you, phi…”- Chay meowed softly. Only now did he realize that the dark gray-black cat beside him was many times bigger than he was. His fur was thick and plush, like the carpet in Namphueng’s bedroom, it looked incredibly soft.
Being poked repeatedly by the tiny Scottish Fold’s stubby paws while trying to sleep made Kim grumble in annoyance. When warning didn’t work, he unsheathed his claws in a threat. In the end, the little Scottish Fold was pinned down under the massive body and fluffy fur of a Maine Coon, completely unable to move.
“Meow meow, I can’t move!”
“Let me go!”
“I have to go home!”
Despite the constant soft meowing in his ear, Kim stubbornly continued acting like a lazy cat sunbathing. Meanwhile, the stray cats were whispering among themselves about how their boss had just rescued a tiny kitten and was now bullying him. But because of his terrifying size, they only dared to jump up about 5 meters away to sneak a peek before scattering to find spots to nap or wander off in search of food.
Chay meowed and meowed but couldn’t escape, so he eventually gave up and lay flat. The situation felt strangely familiar, like those evenings when he accidentally got squished under his owner’s blanket. Except this “blanket” was heavier and might actually bite.
The surrounding cats found it weird that their big boss was cuddling a tailless, earless-looking kitten. Everyone knew Kim loved sunbathing and being alone. Even the elegant lady cats from the neighboring building couldn’t catch his attention, yet here he was today, grooming a short-furred little fluffball like a ball of yarn.
Chay couldn’t understand what the other cats were meowing about. He gradually felt sleepy nestled in Kim’s thick, warm fur. Luckily, the Maine Coon knew his own size could accidentally crush the little one, so he only held him in place to stop him from running away instead of lying on top of him completely.
When Kim finally woke from his nap, he noticed a round ball of fluff pressed right against his face, it’s lighter grayish-white, with much shorter fur than his own. The face was perfectly round, and the ears were folded down like those of a tiny puppy.
“Wake up, kiddo”- He said, giving the little one a few licks on the head before stretching and releasing the kitten he’d been cuddling. But as soon as Chay woke up properly, a new problem arose: he couldn’t remember where his house was.
“My house has Owner Namphueng and Hia”- Chay shook his head when asked if he knew the address. He was only six months old and had only ever been taken outside for baths, grooming, or occasionally one or two stress-relief walks with his big brother Porsche.
Kim grumbled in annoyance, but faced with such an adorable little kitten, he could only order the surrounding stray cats to go gather information while he carried the kid home himself to find something for Chay to eat.
Riding with a full-grown Maine Coon was a terrifying experience for Chay. Even though he knew Kim was holding him securely, every leap from building to building, balcony to balcony, and so on made him feel like he was being taken on a tour halfway across the city before they’d arrive.
“Ohhh, Kim’s bringing a kid back!”- The moment he was set down, a loud voice rang out. Chay blinked and looked up, feeling like he’d stepped into a world of giants as he was suddenly surrounded by three huge Maine Coons.
“Why is our nephew so small? Did you mess up the bloodline or something?”- The whiter version looked down at him, poking him gently with a paw before grumbling -“He looks more like me than you. Did you pick up the wrong kid?”
“He does look similar”- The two-toned version also stared intently, appearing slightly less intimidating than the other two -“You can’t deny he’s part of our family.”
“Then I’m telling Papa”
“He’s not my kid”- Kim finally spoke after letting his two older brothers finish, using his noble paw to gently shield the little one -“I found him on the street.”
“P’Kim saved me!”- Compared to the three giants with their deep voices, tiny little Chay sounded like a brave little lion cub.
“Good boy. Why did you run out there, little one?”- Kinn smiled at the well-behaved kitten his little brother had brought home. Plus, that round head with those adorable folded ears paired with big, sparkling eyes was just too cute.
This time he’d gotten out because his owner hadn’t closed the balcony door properly. Chay had fallen from the balcony, luckily landing on something soft so he wasn’t hurt. Then he got too excited exploring and wandered around until he unfortunately caught Hant’s attention and was chased, which was why he had no idea how to get back home.
“So, are you planning to be his dad now?”- Since they couldn’t find the way home yet, the three decided to let Chay stay with them for a while until the stray cats found out where he belonged.
Surrounded by three massive Maine Coons, Chay couldn’t even see the surroundings clearly. It wasn’t until Tankul remembered it was almost dinner time that he picked the little one up and went to find suitable food for him.
Only when he went with his oldest brother did Chay realize just how luxurious this place was. Their owner loved collecting unique things. The three Maine Coon brothers had been imported at an insanely high price. Besides them, there were a few other breeds too. So after rummaging through the pile of random stuff, Tankhun finally found food that was suitable for the little kitten.
“Look! Khun brought a kid home!”
“So tiny~”
“Looks like a ball of fluff…”
…
“Shut up, all of you! Want me to pluck your feathers one by one?” Tankhun whipped his head around and glared at the noisy birds above, raising his claws threateningly before turning back to continue spoiling his nephew.
Meanwhile, Kinn and Kim were having a much more serious conversation, mostly about why Kim had suddenly dragged a random kitten back home. Kinn knew his little brother’s free-spirited nature, he often disappeared for days, sometimes two or three, before bothering to come back. He had never heard Kim show any interest in any female cat before, so in the older brother’s mind, this was extremely unusual.
Kinn even suspected this might be the child of some lady cat that Kim actually liked.
“He’s cute”- Kim’s reason was very simple. According to him, he had just woken up, felt soft-hearted, and jumped down to save the kitten. Once he’d helped, he figured he might as well go all the way and bring the little one home.
After Tankhun fed Chay until he was full, the little kitten followed his oldest uncle around the house, exploring every corner. When they returned to the cats’ territory, the oldest cat gently set him down and handed him back to Kim.
The daily routines of humans and cats were different, but since Chay lived with owner Namphueng, his schedule was a bit off. Chay grumbled softly a few times, then curled up into a ball inside Kim’s warm nest, getting ready to sleep. If he were at home right now, he would be playing with Porsche, or snuggling in his own bed, or maybe in a corner of his owner’s bed.
“What’s wrong, kiddo?”- It took Kim a while before he finally came over. He stretched his big body and flopped down heavily, causing Chay to sink right in front of him.
“I want to go home…”- His fluffy fur was being licked over and over by Kim. Chay let out a few soft meows, then obediently lay still, blinking his big, round, sparkling eyes at the other cat.
“I’ll find your house tomorrow”- Kim said after finishing the grooming, then lay down. Just like that afternoon, he wrapped his front paws around the little one. If he opened his mouth now, he could accurately chomp down on Chay in one bite.
He went to sleep cuddling the adorable ball of fluff like that. But the next morning when Kim woke up, he found the little kitten climbing playfully on his back. The moment he stretched and stood up – thud! – Kim turned his head and saw Chay lying sprawled on the floor with the most pitiful expression imaginable.
Kim let out a chuckle, licked the kitten’s short, fluffy fur a few times, then carried him out of the nest to find breakfast.
This time, the ones who were shocked were none other than the housekeeper and their owner. When they saw a cute little Scottish Fold riding on Kim’s back, it looked exactly like he had brought his wife home to sleep over.
Luckily, by afternoon the stray cats had gathered solid information. A few blocks away, there was a house that had lost a pedigree kitten around 6–8 months old. The description matched, so Kim decided to take Chay there to see if it was really his home.
“Meow~”
Last time he had been carried like he was flying. This time he was clinging to Kim’s back, so the older cat moved much more slowly. As they got closer, the surroundings started to look familiar.
“There’s my house!”- Chay meowed excitedly when he spotted the familiar balcony corner. It turned out he had really run halfway across the city during his little adventure.
Just by looking up, Kim immediately understood why the little one hadn’t gotten even a single scratch after falling from the 7th floor. There were large advertising billboards on the 3rd and 4th floors, and below them was a café with lots of awnings and obstacles. Getting back up wouldn’t be too difficult either.
Kim silently thanked himself for choosing the quietest time to go out and taking the least noticeable route (the rooftops). Otherwise, a full-grown Maine Coon carrying a round Scottish Fold would have been way too eye-catching.
“Thank you for saving me and bringing me home, Phi”- Chay said as Kim jumped onto the balcony and set him down, preparing to leave. But Chay quickly craned his neck, grabbed onto him, and gave the older cat a few quick licks on the face.
Kim grumbled softly, then pounced –thud! – pinning Chay onto his back with his huge body before licking the little one’s fur all over. He just couldn’t resist pampering such a cute kitten every time the tiny one meowed at him.
“Next time, find a safer way, okay?”- Kim nuzzled his head against Chay’s short little front paws, giving him a few reminders before finally leaving.
