Minchan slipped through the door, following Kangmin into the bedroom. “Hey.” He shut the door behind them, eyes locked onto the boy.
“Hey! What’s up?” Kangmin turned around, a pleasantly curious expression plastered on his face.
The pleasantries unnerved Minchan. He studied the figure a moment. Kangmin stood perfectly still, grounded on his feet, perfectly centered. There was no sway, no shifting of weight, not even a twitch or fidget of his fingers. Minchan looked back up at Kangmin’s eyes, just staring at him, waiting ever so patiently for his response. “What are you?” Minchan finally asked, a deep intensity in his tone.
Kangmin chuckled slightly as he spoke, “What? What are you talking about?”
“Ever since that day at the haunted house you’ve been acting weird. You’re not Kangmin,” he declared. Minchan shifted his stance, standing straighter, more prepared to move. “So what are you?”
The twitch in Kangmin’s eyes were near imperceptible, but it was the one part of him that actually moved. The silence and stillness of the room suffocated Minchan, he almost wished the figure had just attacked him instead of whatever this strange stand-off was.
Finally, the stalemate ended as Kangmin burst into overjoyed laughter. “Oh my god!” he exclaimed through cackles, “Were you really that freaked out? You scaredy cat. Nothing’s wrong, I assure you, I’ve probably just been tired, that’s all.” Kangmin moved to place his hand on Minchan’s shoulder.
Minchan pulled away, causing the smile on Kangmin’s face to drop.
“Oh,” Kangmin said, stepping back.
Minchan glared, never once taking his eyes off the boy. Only one through echoed in his mind as he looked,
Those are not his eyes.
The imposter stepped back, now serious. “There’s nothing wrong,” it stated plainly. “Can I get to my homework now? Or will you accuse me of being a vampire next?” It asked with a snarky smirk.
“Tsk,” Minchan spat. Of course this wouldn’t result in anything, what was he thinking? That it’d just confess and leave them alone? Now it knows that he knows... He has to tell the others.
“They won’t help you.”
Minchan perked up at the imposter’s words. Could it read minds?
“They won’t believe you.”
The breath caught in Minchan’s throat. Having had enough, he swiftly left the bedroom, slamming the door closed behind him.
