Chapter 1: Late Nights

Chapter Text

Naminé- or as she's better known as in the Organization, Mamori- has been stuck in Castle Oblivion for so long. She's originally been used as a witch who can mess with people's memories, but now, recently, she's gained access to a Keyblade.

And the Organization loves using people with a Keyblade.

So she was transferred to the Castle That Never Was, Organization XIII's headquarters.

Naminé is in a shared room with XIV, who later she learned is named Xion. Naminé looks to her right, seeing Xion fast asleep. Watching Xion, Naminé is reminded of the reason she herself doesn't sleep. Her dreams are memories- her own and others. One night she'll have a memory of Sora from Kairi's point of view, the next she'll have a memory of how Zexion became Zexion in the first place. Other nights, she'll be reminded of the pain the Organization put her through... So sleeping has become a risk to her.

Her thoughts get interrupted by a door opening. Looking at the entrance of Xion's room and sitting up, she sees Marluxia in the doorway.

"Mamori," Marluxia says in his cunning tone, "The boss wishes to see you."

Naminé nods, slowly getting out of bed as to not wake up Xion. She slowly approaches Marluxia, who grabs her upper arm to drag her to Xemnas when she reaches the doorway.

The walk is long and silent. The only sounds heard is Marluxia and Naminé's footsteps, and Naminé's occasional grunt as Marluxia tugs on her arm to make sure she's keeping up. They eventually make it to the thrones, and Marluxia leads Naminé forward before stepping back.

"Mamori," Xemnas's deep voice from his cloak speaks up, "How are you adjusting?"

Naminé shrugs.

Xemnas keeps speaking, "You should feel honored. Getting to work with us. Now..." Xemnas stands up and drops from his tall throne, landing in front of Naminé. "We need to send you back to Castle Oblivion."

That catches Naminé's attention.

Xemnas chuckles, "I know, I know. But trust me, it'll be in your best favor to behave. You know what happens when you don't."

Right. Naminé turns her gaze downward at the underlying threat.

"But there should be no need to worry, yes?" Xemnas asks, putting Naminé's chin between his thumb and index fingers and making her look into his eyes.

"Yes sir," Naminé mumbles.

Xemnas nods and steps back, "Good. Your task is to mess with Sora's memories and fight him. We've been training you. Do not fail us."

Naminé nods, and Xemnas dismisses her with one final message.

"You'll be going with Axel back to Castle Oblivion."

Naminé nods and walks away. As she's walking back to Xion's room, she bumps into Lexaeus, who spills a little water on himself.

"Watch it," Lexaeus snaps as he keeps walking, taking a sip of the water that's left in his cup.

Naminé nods with a muttered apology, "Sorry, sir."

Naminé makes it back to Xion's room, but doesn't want to risk waking her up. So instead she decides to just lay on the ground and hope for the best when she wakes up.

If she can even fall asleep, but she can't help but look at the door. Anyone could enter. Anyone could come after her. Just the thought makes her tremble. Shifting behind her makes her flinch, and she looks up at Xion's bed, the raven haired girl sitting up and rubbing her eyes before meeting Naminé's.

"Mamori?.." Xion speaks up, sleepiness blearing her voice, "Are you alright?.."

Naminé nods, "Yes ma'am."

Xion shakes her head, "Please, just call me Xion. I've told you this."

Naminé nods before standing, "Sorry, ma--... Xion." Naminé looks down, "Is there anything I can do for you?"

Xion shrugs, "Mmmdunno. You look tired, why don't you get into bed?" Xion moves over so there's room for Naminé.

Naminé hesitates before crawling into bed, curling up slightly against Xion when she wraps an arm around Naminé.

"I won't let any of them hurt you," Xion mutters, "Not while I'm around."

And for some reason, even though it's a promise Xion likely can't or won't follow through with, it comforts Naminé into a peaceful sleep with memories of Sora and Kairi from Riku's point of view as a little kid.
