Work Text:

Craig doesn't really remember when the night anxieties started. He never really acknowledged them as, well, that, because that doesn't seem like a him thing. It sounds like a thing for his ex.

His ex who he dreams about at night more often than he should. Craig wants to shake himself by the shoulder, remind himself that it's over. He should be happy. He has his nights to himself now, and no longer has to worry about Tweek's freak outs, night terrors, or waking up with thousands of little blonde hairs strayed across his pillow on the days Tweek's parents let him sleep over. (Craig's parents had originally insisted on the door remaining open, but soon they'd issued a closed door rule after Tweek's outbursts would wake them too.)

But he also no longer gets to worry about him. They don't get to laugh anymore, to go to the zoo or the aquarium and hold hands, to sit by each other and do their own thing in silence.

He texts his friends' group chat, which he rarely speaks in (most of the time Clyde and Jimmy just talk back and forth). Have you guys ever freaked out at night and u dont know why

A response comes shortly after. are u and T back together :D Clyde, always with seemingly endless naivety.

Craig tries to type out a response, but he just sighs. He doesn't want to talk about it, because frankly, he doesn't know what's going on.

There's a loud sound coming from Stripe's cage. "Are you hungry, buddy?" He asks, getting up to dump more shavings into his bowl. Stripe runs up to him, ignoring the food. "Or do you want to be picked up?"

Stripe answers this by nudging Craig's hands, and he picks up the animal, bringing him over to his bed. He turns on his television, listening to another episode of Red Racer as he closes his eyes. His fingers dance up and down Stripe's fuzzy back as he eventually falls asleep.
