Work Text:

“And I was thinking of something cute for our Halloween costumes. Something that screams “couple”, y'know?” Mingi rambled on, sifting through the clothes on the rack. The Friday afternoon heat was stifling and Yunho shuffled slowly behind his boyfriend, cursing the tiny corner shop store for not having air conditioning. The pair had decided to go shopping that Halloween for a party, though it was proving to be much more work than Yunho had anticipated, his boyfriend changing his mind with every passing minute.

“Seonghwa told me that he and Hongjoong are going as Morticia and Gomez, which fits them so well I'm almost jealous… okay, I am actually jealous.” He scrutinised a cheap, plastic Ghostface mask before moving on to the next item. “Which is why we need to get something jaw dropping. Yunho, are you even listening?”

Yunho paused where he was mid-motion, fanning himself and shrugged at Mingi sheepishly.

“It's just a party…”

Mingi glared at him, daring him to say another word and Yunho gulped.

“A party that I am very excited to go to and absolutely agree that our costumes should be amazing.”

Mingi’s glare lingered for a moment longer before he turned back to the rack. Yunho let out a breath.

“How about superheroes?” Mingi’s eyes lit up at the idea and though their height difference wasn't anything significant, he managed to look up at Yunho through his eyelashes, a pout settled on his face. "We could be Cloak and Dagger! But I think we'll have to go to a different store for that, they don't seem to have many options here.”

Yunho had initially frozen at Mingi’s insistence to be superheroes but relaxed when he mentioned Cloak and Dagger. Being a superhero himself, he didn't exactly want to risk it by dressing as himself. He internally cringed at the thought of calling himself a superhero, but he couldn't escape the title. Personally though, he preferred “friendly neighbourhood Spider-man”, a title that hardly seemed to stick when it came to news tabloids.

“Yeah, okay.” Yunho agreed easily, and it was worth it when Mingi shot him a million watt smile, his eyes disappearing into cute crescent shapes.

“Great, let me just text the guys and make sure our outfits won't overlap.”

Just then, Yunho’s spidey senses tingled. He heard a scream a couple streets down. Mingi seemed preoccupied with his phone, mumbling something about Wooyoung never being online when it mattered, so Yunho figured he could sneak out and be back before Mingi noticed. Just to be safe though, he shot the man a quick excuse about going to the bathroom, and bolted before he got a response.

Yunho hid in the nearest alleyway, changing into his suit that he kept in his backpack for these exact situations and shot off, swinging through the streets as quickly as he could. A couple of people stopped as he caught their attention, whipping out their phones to record a sighting that honestly wasn't all that rare. He reached the alley in no time, seeing a woman clutching her purse desperately as a hooded figure closed in on her, a knife glinting in his hand.

“Y’know, I wouldn't do that if I were you.” He hung upside down from a streetlight, staring directly at the man who whipped around in fright.

“Who’re you?” He grunted, gripping the knife tighter.

“Really?” Yunho dropped to the ground and gestured at himself. “Red and blue costume? Shooting webs from my wrists? A literal spider on my chest?” The man shifted his eyes from side to side and then shrugged.

“C'mon, man. I'm Spider-man? Really? Nothing? Okay, nevermind, forget it. Things are about to get sticky or whatever.” Yunho said with a resigned sigh, shooting a string of webs around the man, effectively restraining him. The criminal yelled a slew of expletives and Yunho shot one last web to keep the man's mouth shut.

“You're all safe, ma'am.” He called out, bowing with flair.

“Oh thank you… sir.” She shuffled uncomfortably.

“Seriously?” A truck passed by, making a huge racket as it rumbled on. They both stared at each other awkwardly. “Just call the cops.” She nodded hastily and Yunho sighed again, hanging his head low before taking off.

Once he got back, he hurriedly changed back, running a quick hand through his messed up hair, he took a deep breath, squared his shoulders, turned the corner and ran straight into Mingi.

When Mingi recovered from getting bumped into, he frowned.

“Where were you? What were you doing in the alley? I thought you were going to the bathroom?” He stared accusingly at Yunho who could feel sweat beading on his temple.

“Uh, I was doing drugs!” He blurted, collapsing internally at the bullshit excuse. He wasn't great under pressure, especially when said pressure was from his boyfriend. Mingi took a minute before responding, the frown not once leaving his face.

“Yeah, okay. Let's just go before the other stores close. Wooyoung and San just told me their costumes came in along with Yeosang and Jongho’s, meaning we're the only ones without outfits. And if we don't get costumes because of you, there'll be hell to pay Jeong Yunho.”

He poked Yunho’s chest lightly, because of course Mingi couldn't hurt a fly, and stomped off, leaving Yunho to dash to catch up to him.

It turned out that Mingi was worried about nothing. They easily found and bought the costumes and they fit like a glove, luckily enough. Yeosang and Jongho had come over to show off their outfits, Jongho dressed as the Joker and Yeosang as Harley Quinn, they looked equally stunning as the group all modelled for each other, save for Jongho who chose to ogle his boyfriend instead. They also let it slip that San and Wooyoung would be going as Meg and Hercules from the animated movie, prompting Mingi to call them immediately to see their outfits too. The other couple stayed for a while longer, sharing snacks and gossiping about trivial matters until it got dark and Jongho said it was time he and Yeosang left.

Yunho was panicking.

He'd just fought a monster in the city, stupidly wearing his Halloween costume to save time, and it had gotten destroyed. The good part was that the monster was defeated and the city was safe. The bad part was that Mingi was definitely going to lose his shit.

Knowing he couldn't show up in tatters (something that would cause Mingi to lose his shit in a different way), Yunho opted for the next best thing. His Spider-man suit. It wasn't ideal, far from it, but between that and regular clothes, he reasoned that at least he was still on theme for the party.

He rushed to get changed, discarding the ruined outfit in some dumpster before swinging off to the party. He was already late and he didn't want to lose even more time.

Yunho walked the last couple of blocks, planning every possible excuse in his mind. The house that was hosting had cars parked everywhere and loud music blasted from the speakers. Inside was even louder, the heavy thumping of the bass resonating in his bones.

He found Mingi easily, his tall, gorgeous boyfriend always catching his eye even in a room full of people. Tapping on his shoulder, he plastered a cheesy smile onto his face, though Mingi didn't look pleased in the slightest. He scanned Yunho, pinched his nose bridge and then took a swig of his drink.

“What are you wearing?” Mingi asked, very clearly angry. “Why are you dressed as Spider-man?”

Yunho reached out to hold Mingi’s hand, but he yanked it away. The liquid in the red solo cup Mingi held sloshed, spilling a bit onto the ground.

“I know. I'm sorry. My costume-” He paused, unable to come up with an excuse, highly doubting that Mingi would believe it got torn in a fight with some monster made of sludge. “I spilled something on it and had to change.” He settled on.

“And you just so happened to have a perfect Spider-man suit waiting around? I've never even seen this in your closet.” Mingi’s eyes got big in the way they usually did when he was feeling upset. “Did you really not want to wear a couples costume that much? I could've- we could've come up with something else.”

“I did want to! Honest.”

“Stop lying, Yunho. Just- I want to go home.” He pushed his way past Yunho and the crowd, stumbling slightly because of his shoes. Yunho chased after him until they were outside, away from the noise and everyone else.

“Mingi, princess, I'm really sorry.”

“Just stop, Yunho. First you came late, you're not even wearing the outfit you had on when we left, and you just keep lying to me, disappearing to heaven knows where at the most random times. Are you cheating on me?”

“I'm not cheating on you.”

“Then what?”

Yunho took a deep breath in.

“You can't tell anyone but… I'm Spider-man.” He confessed. Mingi shot him a glare and scoffed.

“Yeah, I can see that.”

“No, I mean- let me just show you.” Quickly, he dragged an unwilling Mingi to the side of the house, finding a dark, secluded corner where no eyes were watching. He took the cup from Mingi, emptied it out and placed it a few feet away from them.

“Yunho, what are you-”

The web slinging out and attaching itself to the cup before shooting straight into Yunho’s hand cut Mingi right off. He gaped, blinking multiple times and then rubbing his eyes.

“I- you- what?”

“I'm Spider-man.” Yunho said again, biting his lip nervously.

“You're Spider-man.” His boyfriend echoed hollowly, still in disbelief. “You're Spider-man?!”

“Shhh!” He dropped the cup and covered Mingi’s mouth, whipping his head around to check for any people.

“Holy shit, you're Spider-man.” Came Mingi's muffled voice. He pried Yunho's hand away. “If you really are him, and this isn't some trick-”

“It isn't.”

“Then, all those times you've disappeared, had random bruises, your costume…”

“I was fighting bad guys.” Yunho nodded. “And I didn't spill anything on it. I had a fight with some weird sludge monster -we'll see it on the news later- and my costume got ruined. I'm sorry. Please don't tell anyone.”

“Oh no, baby, don't apologise. I should be the one to say sorry. You've been putting yourself in danger this whole time and I was worried about a stupid couples costume.”

“It's not stupid. It mattered to you. I should've been better.”

Mingi shook his head. “Let's just agree to disagree then. Even though I'm right.”

“So what now?” Yunho asked, gesturing towards the house and the party that was still very much going on. “You still want to leave?”

Mingi scanned him from head to toe again but this time his expression was vastly different.

“I don't want people to see you like this. You look so hot.” He pouted and Yunho couldn't help but laugh brightly.

“How about we have our own little party? Just me and you?”

“I didn't bring my car. Can you do that flying- or swinging, I guess, thing while carrying me?”

“Do you want me to?” Yunho raised a brow, knowing that his boyfriend was notoriously afraid of most things.

“I'm dating Spider-man, of course I want to.” His eyes widened and he smiled giddily. “Holy shit, I'm dating Spider-man. Wooyoung is going to be so jealous when I tell him.”

Mingi!”

“Right, sorry, it's a secret. My lips are sealed.” Mingi mimed zipping his mouth shut, locking it and throwing away the key. After a second he looked at his boyfriend, pleading. “Not even Seonghwa?”

Yunho groaned. Sometimes, his boyfriend could be even more of a menace than the monsters he fought daily, but honestly, he wouldn't have it any other way.

Notes:

Heyyy~
Yunho’s Spider-man pics have me in a minor chokehold so here we are (;・∀・)
Also sidenote, I know that Harley Quinn and the Joker are DC characters but ever since Yeo dressed up as Harley that one time, I've been obsessed Σ(T▽T;)
Hope you enjoyed it.
