Mama wolf

Summary:

You're a late-bloomer. It's not like you'll wolf out on a school trip for the first time, right?

Work Text:

Who even decides to organize a school trip during a full moon? Yeah, everyone was thinking the same thing. It seems almost intentional.

Well, you didn't have too much of a problem with that. Despite being 16 now, you still haven't wolfed out.

You came to the school along with your mother. Of course you've met Enid, and she's told you all about how she was also a late bloomer. She said she wolfed out under a blood moon, when she had to save her friend.

So, with the influence of pressure. Under a blood moon that won't be happening in this decade again.

Alright. It's fine. Different people need different things. Enid also said she was sent to summer camps before, which you haven't. Maybe that'd work.

Something your mother could never send you to. She doesn't want you away from her in general, but after what went down here in Jericho, she would never send you off all alone to anywhere.

So you were left to hope. Which you don't have much of, by the way. Isadora always asks you if you want to accompany her to the lupin cages, but the answer is, more often than not, a no.

That leaves you here. Not at all worried about what will go down in a forest camp with a full moon.

You've heard that a lot of the werewolves just didn't go altogether, not wanting to risk it. But Enid is going, and so is your mother— The two wolves you mainly rely on for lycan info. And in turn, so are you.

You wait outside the bus with your bag already packed. Not that you don't have any friends... but you'll be sitting next to your mother. You rarely spend time with her, anyway.

But you won't be sleeping with her, of course. No fucking way you're sleeping with your mother. No, you're staying with your roommate out here as well.

You stand beside her while Isadora counts everyone who gets on the bus, eventually ticking off every name on the clipboard. Except yours.

Once everyone's on, she turns to you with an exaggerated flip of her hair. "Would the younger Miss Capri be so kind to get on the bus with the others?"

"Yeah, yeah, sure." You walk up the stairs, and settle down in the very first seat, across from Principal Dort, and slide in next to the window. You see your mom finally check off your name as well as she follows.

Dort is about to slide over and make conversation, but as he sees Isadora approach, he opts to shoot a smile instead.

You don't return it. You never had the chance to meet the great Larissa Weems, but you cannot deny that Dort is way too cheery after all that happened. And the fact that there was no kind of memorial for the lives lost to Laurel Gates... it all seems very suspicious.

The ride wasn't long. 30 minutes. Your mother had asked you how you felt here, how you're adapting. To her disappointment, you could only give vague answers. It made her concerned.

But you didn't say anything specifically bad. Just neutral. She knows it was always hard for you to find your people, but lsa trusts you enough to assume you'd tell her something was wrong.

Noticing your lack of conversation, your principal was quick to make small talk with your mother. In turn, you put your headphones over your head and turn music on.

Since you sat next to her just to have her company, you decided to hold onto her hand. You clutched it like a child. It made Isa a little worried, but she can't deny her daughter; she squeezes your hand between her own.

You got off at the camp, and were immediately swept away by the crowd. You stuck with Enid and her friends, until the nommies arrived. She left to go fight with them, and so, you stood off to the side.

Your mother approached you once again. "Everything okay so far?"

"Well.. the situation is definitely interesting." You give a chuckle. None of what was currently happening was planned, and you can't help but watch in disbelief. But yes, everything's fine.

"Yeah, uhm... this surely is something. But you'll come look for me if that changes, understand?" As the only teacher invited, it must be strange to see two grown men handle a conflict in such a childish way, no matter the amount of experience you have.

You nod, and you both go your separate ways; you go to your roomie to gossip, and she goes back to the principal to watch the game unfold.

You're enjoying the unexpected turn of events, so time seems to fly faster than the train you arrived to Jericho with. Before you know it, it's turned dark, and you're all gathered around a campfire.

Your mother sings a song; planned to be a solo, but she seemed quite happy that Mrs. Addams could join in as well.

Some asked you why you didn't join her, and it's because you had no talent in music. It might be surprising, but your mother never pressed it. She never repeated the things that were done to her.

Instead of helping out with the song, you had a constant nagging in the back of your mind. You felt every tiny thing around you.

It was only when the music quieted down, that you noticed your nails got sharper. By the time the campfire was over, you couldn't ignore how your fangs were digging into your lips. And that's your sign to go get mama.

As the crowd slowly simmers out, you rush after Isadora. She was headed back to her tent with the guitar, but you stopped her and tapped her shoulder before she could reach it.

"Honey? What's wrong—" You cut her off, showing her your hands; on which, your nails have grown into full claws since then. Isa's eyes widen, and her brain shuts off for a moment.

She snatches your wrist and hurries you inside her tent— since she's a teacher, she has a big tent. "Oh dear, poor baby. At the worst place, too... gosh, fuck— you feel anything awful?"

"My head feels like it's gonna explode, I hear so much..." You duck inside and sit on her bed. Isadora kneels in front of you and holds your hands.

"It'll be okay, just focus on me. Once the moon starts rising higher, things will get a lot more intense. You lay here until then, relax, and let it take over. I'll be here, I'll guide you; as a human."

With a nod of your head, it went just like that; you laid down and closed your eyes. You got a fun 30-minute nap, with your mother sitting above you, before the shift of your limbs woke you up.

You make a dog-like whimper, and things start going fuzzy. You very quickly grow fur, and as your bones stretch, you watch your mother with teary eyes, accompanied by different panicked puppy noises.

Isadora places her hand on your back, almost tearing up at seeing her baby in such pain. The transformation, being your first, is slow and painful. You try to hide your face in her pillow, sobbing into it.

Once you're mostly done, Isadora gives in to the moon as well; getting over her shift quickly, and swiftly moving to your side.

She nudges you with her snout and sniffs you in an urgent manner. You lay there, curled up, but still wag your tail against the mattress as her nose touches you.

You place your paw over hers, reassuring her that you're mostly okay. Seeing that you're alright, she starts arranging pillows around you like a nest. She makes sure that you're as comfortable as possible, before laying next to you.

The adult werewolf, being twice your size, curls around you with ease; although she almost falls off the bed. She nuzzles her snout into your soft fur, and like a true mama wolf soothing her baby, she howls softly into your ear until you fall asleep.
