Cheer no Horror

Summary:

The BREAKERS bus breaks down in a not so great place.

Notes:

Disclaimer - I don't own Cheer Boys! This was written for Froday amnesty for March 2026, prompt s34, where I was to pick two horror and/or sex tropes, but the first two skipping like tropes was "Abandoned Camp Ruins" and "Absurdly Sharp Claws" and I came up with this.

Work Text:

The bus broke down.

The bus broke down in the middle of the woods, leaving the BREAKERS stranded in the middle of nowhere on the way back from a cheer contest, and in need of finding a way out of the situation.

in the middle of the night, as well.

Well, I can see if there’s anybody up the road, right?” Haruki said. “Even in the dark, the road should be easy enough to follow.”

Is this not the horror movie scenario where group seperates and then bam! All destruction and chaos happen,” Chen piped up, resulting in groans from everyone else in the group, with others pointing out they weren’t in some cliche horror.

Haruki sighed, heading out with Kazuma. “Can you believe that?”

I think someone has been watching too many horror movies lately,” Kazuma replied, hands jammed into his pocket. “Though, I do have to admit that a vehicle breaking down in the middle of nowhere is…”

Oh, come on,” Haruki shuddered, hoping his childhood friend wasn’t saying what he was saying just to scare him. “This isn’t a horror film.”

Of course it’s not. I’m simply pointing out the cliche,” Kazuma said. “But it makes sense Chen might have taken those movies a little too seriously, given how they were introduced to him.”

I guess we’ll have to do something about that when we get back,” Karuki said. He fished out his phone, looking down to see there was still no signal, which was why he decided to walk down the road in the first place. “Sis and my parents are going to be pissed off at not knowing where we are.”

I suspect my grandmother is fast asleep, so if I were to get through…”

Karuki laughed. “Yeah. Better to call my family and let your grandmother sleep. She’d be up late worrying until we got home if we called her.”

Yeah. I don’t want to do that. She’s already dealt with losing my mom and dad,” Kazuma said, letting out a hum as they continued along.

And then, they saw a light. Karuki let out a whistle. “Look! There’s a light, so maybe we can get help.”

Yeah, but I don’t think we should stray from the path,” Kazuma said.

Karuki didn’t listen, heading in, and Kazuma followed after. They soon came across a path leading to the place with the light, and followed it, and—

Okay.” Kazuma frowned. “I think we should take back what we said about horror movies.”

Karuki swallowed, taking in the abandoned campground, with the flickering firelight and ripped up tents, as if some kind of beast was out and about, but the bus with the rest of the team wasn’t too far away. He could also see what he thought was blood in a few places. “Yeah. Let’s get back to the bus, no?”

Yeah. Not…”

And then a branch snapped, there came a snarl and—

Karuki turned, as Kazuma tilted forward, whatever struck Kazuma disappearing into the woods, but—

It was obvious the beast had gotten Kazuma with its claws. Kazuma let out a groan of pain, indicating he was still alive, while Karuki verbally cursed their luck.

We are in a horror movie scenario.
