Work Text:

It wasn’t every day where Sanders woke up before MacArthur did. But that’s what happened today!

Sanders sat up from her bed, rubbing her eyes as they tried to adjust to the light. She had an.. oddly good rest,Usually MacArthur would be heard and she’d wake up to that. Not that she completely hated it,She’s grown used to it. But what made it TRULY weird was that MacArthur was still in bed next to her,and her breathing was.. ragged. And sounded really,REALLY uncomfortable in general. Was she sick?? Probably. To be fair: the weather yesterday was awful and MacArthur refused NOT to go out for groceries. But honestly, even Sanders didn’t completely expect her to get ..maybe sick.

MacArthur had more of an immunity to sickness than Sanders did,and MacArthur always wanted to be in some type of charge. While Sanders accepted any form of help,MacArthur was always more .. stubborn. She’s always wanted to be in some type of charge,it’s a bad habit really.

She wasn’t fully sure of it so she just hoped for the best. She took a deep breath before getting off of bed and deciding to make some coffee for herself. At least so she thought..

A few minutes passed as she was getting the ground coffee, she heard the most irritated groan come out from their room. She’d see MacArthur basically limp out of her room.

“Uugh,Mornin’ Sanders.”
MacArthur groaned, sniffling. She was almost as pale as a marshmallow and her eyes were sunken. Her voice was drowsy and she looked like she could barely hold herself up. Either it was cause she was sick or she hasn’t drank her coffee yet. Sanders sucked through her teeth, hissing with worry.

“Geez,You do NOT look well.”
She pointed out,she wasn’t all too shocked since she expected it but she WAS filled with concern.

“It’s fine,I’m FINE! Just need my morning coffee.”
She brushed off the fact she was experiencing vertigo and used the kitchen counters to guide herself to where Sanders placed the coffee to make her own. Sanders backed up so she doesn’t bump into her,but her expression shifts into one with pity.

“I don’t mean to try and underestimate you but you look AWFUL..condition wise of course. Don’t need some type of help?”
She’d raise an eyebrow, leaning her back against the counter as she rested her arm on so. MacArthur tried to scoff but one scoff caused almost a whole coughing fit, stopping herself by banging her closed fist onto her chest before exhaling.

“I’m- okay, really! No germs can get to me!”
She instantly defended herself before mumbling to herself that her nose was killing her. Sanders was obviously skeptical.

“Uh huhh..”
She’d nod slowly, and clearly did not believe one thing MacArthur tried to claim.
“Just take a seat,I’ll take it from here.”
She claimed, getting another cup ready. MacArthur was not pleased, just mumbling salty nothings under her already raspy breaths as she crossed her arms.

“Ahh,Calm down Partner. It happens to the best of us.”
Sanders tried to comfort her clearly ill well..partner.

She knew pretty well that MacArthur isn’t the biggest fan of being taken care of,mainly due to as we’ve stated previously:Her preferring to keep her “leadership.” Honestly she can pretty much sympathise with MacArthur. Despite them being pretty different when it comes to their lifestyles and personalities; They had similar motives.

She set down the coffee in front for MacArthur as she tried searching for some type of medicine in the upper cabinets. She mumbles the symptoms to herself and when MacArthur noticed after sipping from her cup,She shot her posture right up.

“Ay,I’m not sick! I don’t need -“
She’d try to defend herself before her own body cut her off by letting out a sneeze. She sniffled awkward silence started to commence.

“..”

“….Okay,Maybe I am. But I don’t need help for it,I can already manage stuff more difficult than some germs running around my body! I can deal with being sick!”
She yelled out, crossing her arms and seeming to get more defensive.

“You could barely get up.”

“Well I didn’t have my morning coffee.”

“True that, but still. You look as pale as a ghost.”
She tried to convince MacArthur, trying to signal to her face and tilting her head alongside it.
“I did try telling you not to go out the other day.”
She mumbled to herself quietly in a snarky tone,in a way she wish she could say “I told you so.”

“No I don’t!”
She scorned, putting her hand on her chest in a way of offence. She would start to pat her face in different spots.
“Do I?”
She asked quickly, her tone being quieter and more squeaky. She didn’t want to be too obvious about her personal concerns. Sanders very much noticed and sighed.

“Yeah.”
She nodded, almost making her body language dramatic. MacArthur rolled her eyes and put her hand on her hip as Sanders seemed to chuckle a bit due to her own exaggeration.

“Well..even so and so,I can take care of myself. I don’t need any type of guidance.”
Her voice started to trailed off,her face seeming to scrunch up in embarrassment.
“Besides,I can just get whatever .. medicine. (Blech.) myself!”
She gets up,trying to search through the medicine herself. She mumbles to herself, but not about her symptoms, about that she doesn’t even need it or something.

“It’s the first one you see on the left by the way!”

“Thanks! .. DAMNIT SANDERS!!!!!”
She gripped onto the medicine bottle realising she fell for Sander’s tricks, again.

She had to admit,The way Sanders does what she needs to in a way it gets them both to benefit from it,whether it’s getting her to share so they don’t get a penalty in the race or helping her find medicine. She’d admit she was always smooth with it,it impressed her. Either Sanders was smart.. which well she is,but you get the idea;Or MacArthur’s a bit gullible.

Sanders was laughing to herself as MacArthur tensed up,Her face reddening. Was it cause of a fever? Ehhh,No. MacArthur just mumbled nonsense as she just snatched the medicine bottle and stormed into their room.
