Work Text:
‘Dear Grant,’
~~
Skip sprinted downstairs, they didn't want to be late for the first day of senior year.
“Sar– Skip, honey, what are you doing?” Their mom asked from the kitchen
“I don't wanna be late on my first day.” They unzipped their bag.
“The school doors won't even be open yet.” She walked over to them, standing by their side as they double checked having everything.
“I like being early, it's more peaceful.” They zipped up their bag and stood up.
“If you insist, just be careful,” she said, hugging them.
“I will!” They left their house, the lock clicking behind them.
~~
‘First day of my last year at highschool, I'm so excited! I wish you were here so we could celebrate together. But I guess it's good we got back in touch over summer.’
~~
They sat in front of the school, writing a letter back home to Grant. They had lost touch after the move due to time zones and how much stress and pressure they were under, but they began writing letters to each other over the summer.
It wasn't practical, sure, but it was fun, and they liked it.
Eventually the school doors opened and they made their way inside, getting their schedule and finding their classes.
They had a few with their friends, which was great. Having classes with friends was like being blessed by a god.
1st period with Owen, and 3rd with Dustin was good.
And when lunch hit all four of them got together, which was always the best if you asked them.
Most people would call their friend group dynamic weird but it was comforting to them. Dustin and Owen would flirt and be gay only to be insulted by Madeline.
Sometimes they would join, sometimes they'd stay quiet. Right now it was quiet time as they wrote.
~~
‘I'll see you again one day, I promise! And it'll be great when we meet up again.
But for now I'll fill you in on what's happened.
When I first got to my new school I met someone and we became friends but it turns out he wasn't very good. He hurt me. I SH'd and attempted suicide because of him.’
~~
“Whatcha writing?” Dustin asked, looking at the paper they were writing on.
“A letter for my friend back home,” they said. Dustin began reading it as they kept writing.
~~
‘But don't worry! I cut him off. I have new friends now, who are much better.’
~~
“Hey, give me it,” he took the paper and pencil from them and wrote a note on it.
He gave it back and they read what he wrote.
~~
Hell yeah we are!! - D
~~
They smiled and shook their head.
They really were grateful for their new friends, it was like being pulled out of a dumpster fire (Jeremy) by an angel.
They watched for a second as Madeline and Owen bickered, Dustin jumping in, before finishing their letter.
~~
‘He insisted on writing that.
But anyways, I can't wait to hear back from you!’
~~
They read over the letter before deciding it was good and signing it off.

‘-your BFF, Blue’
