Work Text:

Heavy breaths echoed through the room of the Dazai family.

It was a large family, with ten children, most of whom were alphas and omegas.

Dazai’s parents themselves were an alpha and an omega, which explained why they had so many children of this combination.

Dazai himself was an alpha, though no one knew it.

Ever since he had presented himself, he had been stealing potency injections from his father to avoid his first rut and to have no scent at all.

This helped him hide from everyone, even his family, which suited him perfectly.

He could do whatever he wanted; his parents paid him little attention, too focused on managing the small cluster of alphas.

He also hid behind the persona of a clown and a troublemaker, so his parents had no idea about his true state.

He was barely seventeen and already lacked the will to fight to live.

For him, life was too exhausting and unworthy of the effort to change it.

Since Chuuya…

Or Odasaku…

No, pull yourself together, Dazai, you can’t give others a chance to manipulate you, remember?

He didn’t continue down that path.

It was so well-trodden, it could have been mistaken for someone digging trenches.

Dazai laughed, without a trace of joy.

It was bitter, even dark, some might say.

But Dazai didn’t mind.

They were at a stalemate, and he could do nothing without revealing his true “self” to his family.

God, how much he didn’t want to be here.

~~~~~~~~
- Dazai? Are you here? – his mother asked.
She was a beautiful woman, full in all the right places.
No wonder his father had fallen for her head over heels.
She had dark brown curls that looked soft to the touch, delicate fair skin, and large almond-shaped, hazel eyes.
- I’m fine and healthy, – he said cheerfully – you can’t kill me that easily, mother, – he added with a mischievous smile, hidden in the darkness.
Dazai heard her sigh in relief.
- I’m glad. Does your head hurt? I saw them hit you with the belt. It must have hurt.
Dazai almost imagined her face twisting.
She’s probably terrified, he thought apathetically.
He really didn’t care.
After all, they weren’t parents to him.
After all these changes, he had stopped feeling attachment to his family.
As if I ever had one.
- Ah, that – he sighed theatrically – yes, it hurt like hell.
A lie.
Dazai was too used to pain to feel it.
After all, after so many missions and his suicide attempts…
You could get used to it.
Though it didn’t change the fact that Dazai still hated pain.
- I thought I’d die there, but now I’m fine, – he added soothingly.
He heard his mother crying.
Poor woman, he thought apathetically.
The rest of his family slept.
They had received a beating when the mafia broke into their home. He noticed that his people recognized him, so he hadn’t gotten the same thrashing as his family.
He wouldn’t say it, but it suited him; he could maintain mental sharpness.
- Don’t cry, Mom. I’m fine. Worry about the others; they got it worse than me, – he said tenderly, as if it would help their situation.
- But Dazai! You’re my child too! Of course, I worry about you! And I always will – Dazai didn’t know how, but somehow he could see his mother’s eyes radiating love for him.
No, actually, he did know.
After all, alphas generally saw better than other genders.
A little joke.
Dazai laughed, this time genuinely.
- Haru? Karuto? Shuji? Minako? Are you alive? Are you okay? – he fired questions like bullets at his father.
The people he mentioned were his siblings, all omegas, hence the questions.
He only received moans and complaints in response.
Then his father sighed in relief, as if thinking omegas were fragile and incapable of surviving.
Ding, ding, ding!
Because that’s what he thought!
Oh, how Dazai wished Chuuya was here now. He’d kick his ass so hard he wouldn’t walk for a week.
Yet he couldn’t be sure that—
- Dazai! – his father shouted.
The mentioned only looked at him questioningly.
- You woke up? Everything okay? Why didn’t you answer me? Do you have a concussion? Or—
- Yes, Dad, I’m fine. Like I said, you can’t kill me that easily. After all, I’m too extraordinary for this world; even death sees that! – he didn’t feel like listening further to his father.
His father was conservative and believed in old stereotypes. As if they could help in any way. Idiot, he thought.
His father just rolled his eyes at his behavior. Probably annoyed~. He loved to provoke, and anyone who knew him even slightly knew that.
Dazai thought of provoking his father more, but then he heard a voice.
- Well, well, what do we have here?
Oh no, no, no, no, no. It can’t be him, forbid it, Dazai thought frantically, as if that would help.
- Please, don’t hurt him! – his mother started.
If only she had free hands, she’d be waving them everywhere.
Dazai held his breath.
Was his acting so weak that his mother noticed his—
- Hikari didn’t do anything! He’s just a lost child! He didn’t mean any harm – Dazai exhaled in relief.
Yet his performance was perfect.
The familiar voice laughed out loud. Dazai got chills; it was heavy.
- Unfortunately, young lady, I’m not talking about Hikaru – Dazai held his breath as the figure looked at him – I’m talking about Dazai.
~~~~~~

- What do you want from him? – his father growled.

For the first time in his life, Dazai saw him worry about him.

- Me? Just to reveal his lies and bring him back to Port Mafia, – Mori said, slowly approaching Dazai with a syringe.

- Never in my life! Dazai isn’t suited for this, that’s one, and two, I won’t let you drag him into this crap! – his father started yelling, making Dazai’s ears hurt.

His scream must have woken the rest, because they woke up with moans.

- Dad? What’s happening? – asked sleepy Hikaru – boss?! What are you doing here?! What do you want from my family?! I’ll do anything, just spare them. – he said almost tearfully.

Dazai saw huge, whale-like tears forming in his eyes, not caring how pitiful he looked.

Mori continued approaching Dazai with the syringe, and Hikaru began to shout again.

- Leave Dazai alone! – Hikaru struggled against the knots – as a beta, he’s fragile! You could hurt him! And if you do, I won’t forgive it – tears now freely streamed down the 15-year-old alpha’s cheeks, and with each drop, his growl intensified.

How sweet, Dazai thought cynically.

Mori only laughed.

- Dazai? Fragile? You’ve never been known to us. But if you insist, I can show you his true side, – Mori said lightly, not slowing his pace.

Dazai tried to struggle, but the knots were too strong.

It didn’t surprise him.

- Oh, Dazai. You know you won’t escape these knots. After all, you taught me how to tie them properly, – Mori’s laugh froze Dazai’s blood.

This had to be some sick dream, right? Mori wouldn’t expose his little toy to kill his own family, would he?

Dazai decided to play clean.

- What the hell are you talking about – he growled, but stopped mid-sentence.

Those sounds were only produced by alphas.

Oh fuck.

Mori’s laughter only intensified.

- I didn’t even have to try, but just to be sure, I’ll inject it anyway. After all, your little omega is waiting for her alpha.

Dazai glanced at his family, but saw only shock painted on their faces.

- Dazai, you have an omega!? You’re an alpha!? How… you never showed any signs! – his family shouted over each other.

If someone had told them Dazai was an omega, they might have believed that sooner than he was an alpha.

- He’s lying! Why do you believe him!? He’s the head of Port Mafia! Of course he’s lying – desperate, Dazai started shouting, trying to make them believe him.

But Mori, now right beside him, injected the substance, probably triggering the rut.

- It starts in 5 minutes, for now enjoy your omega, – he said, ordering Chuuya to be brought in.

Panic engulfed Dazai.

Not only had his family discovered his long-hidden identity, but now Chuuya was being brought in.

And he was 100% sure Mori had something else planned.

They untied his hands, knowing he wouldn’t resort to violence.

He quickly moved away from everyone, especially from his omega, whose long-forgotten alpha had awoken, perceiving them as a threat.

- Well, the first part is done. After Dazai’s rut, we’ll discuss all important matters, understood? – Mori asked, friendly yet dangerous.

- Yes, boss! – Hikaru shouted, glancing at Dazai.

He looked at him like a rival.

Chuuya was introduced with proper respect, which calmed Dazai.

It didn’t stop him from growling at the guards, who flinched in response.

He quickly rushed to the omega in heat and enveloped him, ignoring everything else.

He coiled around him like a snake.

A quick image of a rat being devoured by a snake crossed Dazai’s mind.

He smiled at it.

His family watched in shock, silently asking themselves how they had never noticed.

Dazai barely cared.

Now, with Chuuya in his arms, he wouldn’t let anyone approach or harm him.

He had always been possessive, but during the rut, it intensified impossibly.

Unknowingly, he noted this for the future, to avoid being caught off guard.

After all, he drew the cards, not them.

- Dazai? – Chuuya asked tearfully. – What are we doing here? Why aren’t we in the nest?

Dazai’s heart broke seeing this.

His usually strong omega, who never let anyone dominate him in such a state, and that too in front of others?

He growled even more, and his pheromones began to leak uncontrollably.

He heard his family gagging behind the wall.

He had always known his scent of cigarettes, whiskey, and musk was strong and intimidating, but to see his own family react like this?

It puzzled Dazai for a second until he heard his omega’s voice again.

- Dazai?

He covered him more tightly with his body and pheromones, not answering at all.

He tried to figure out how to build a nest for his omega so he wouldn’t feel unsafe.

After all, he had him.

He would ensure his safety.

Soon, he had an idea.

He removed his upper clothing and bandages, intensifying his scent, making everyone behind him choke.

He even heard someone crying.

No wonder.

After all, he was a prime alpha, and his family must have felt as if they had entered a perfume store.

Yet he didn’t care about that.

He cared that the whole room was filled with his pheromones, so no one would approach his omega.

He purred in approval and looked at his omega.

He was overjoyed seeing the materials for his nest and in the scent of his alpha, he began to purr in appreciation.

He quickly got to work, and Dazai heard someone open a door and throw something at their feet.

He growled defensively, eyes glowing red.

The guard, noticing vaguely, flinched and ran, closing the door behind him.

Good.

He looked at the chest.

There were blankets, pillows, and everything needed for an omega’s nest.

Dazai smelled the clothes and gave them to his omega as a mating gesture, which he accepted, quickly changing his makeshift nest.

When he finished, he meowed at Dazai to come and cover him, which he did.

They lay there for an indeterminate amount of time until they heard the door open again.

Dazai rose and growled protectively, but Mori showed no interest.

He only asked someone (Dazai barely registered who) to leave and close the door.

The people quickly followed, leaving Dazai and Chuuya alone.

Perfect.

~~~~~
Dazai’s family quickly fled the alpha’s territory.
The scent of a prime alpha was too strong, too dominant, to linger longer.
They reached Hikaru’s office in uncomfortable silence.
- So, any questions? – asked the boss, scalpel in hand.
Next to him sat a 10-year-old girl, drawing on sheets of paper.
They didn’t look at her for long, nor at anything else in the office.
They feared he would kill them if they did.
- Why did Dazai hide that he’s an alpha? – the girl asked.
She was too young to understand that it wasn’t appropriate to ask the head of the mafia so directly.
She only felt discomfort, not fear, not knowing why.
- Oh, – the man brightened – to avoid suspicion. A prime alpha is strictly monitored by the government and too conspicuous as a civilian. It had to be hidden – he added with a glint in his eye.
- Okay… but why did you kidnap us and give us this information on a silver platter? I don’t understand – Hikaru, most agitated, asked.
The man turned on his chair and stared out the window at Yokohama’s panorama.
- Oh, Hikaru. You can’t compare your intelligence to your brother’s, that’s true, but I had a bigger plan. Too bad you showed so easily that you wouldn’t manage to fulfill it. – Hikaru turned red and looked away.
- But back to your question, I want you to know because I plan to send Dazai on overseas missions. He has a flight to Paris next week, and you mustn’t delay him even for a second. You’ll take him to the airport, help him check out, and say goodbye. He’ll be there for three weeks, and you must make an excuse for school. In the future, there will be more trips to Europe, so you need to know and not hinder him, or I’ll send special assassin units – he said as casually as if talking about the weather. His family trembled in fear – and I treat him like my own son, and he sees me as something like a father, so it won’t be a problem. Besides, I have Chuuya. If you hinder Dazai’s missions, I’ll take him, and he’ll follow me anywhere – he laughed joyfully – after all, they’re destined partners.
Hikaru was shocked. He thought that despite the age difference between him and Nakahara, they were destined, so the idea that his older, pathetic brother could have such a bond with Chuuya made his blood boil.
- But that’s impossible! And what rank does he hold to travel in Europe!? Ordinary boys on errands don’t have such privileges.
A spark appeared in the boss’s eyes, and Hikaru shivered.
- Oh, dear boy, Dazai is the head of the Port Mafia, the youngest in history. His blood is the darkest in all of Japan, and he is my right hand, appearing with Nakahara under the title “double black” since he was 15. Does that tell you anything?
No, NO! Impossible! Dazai, that stupid Dazai is a demon prodigy!? Impossible!
Hikaru paled.
- I see you’ve realized who your little brother really is, – he said, as if this conversation bored him.
- Yes, boss, – Hikaru nodded, and the man smiled.
- Any more questions?
The whole family shook their heads, and the man was pleased.
- Alright, formalities over. Now you’ll be under strict mafia supervision. Don’t even think about reporting this meeting to the police, because if you do… – he left the sentence hanging dramatically, and the family unanimously denied they would.
- So that’s everything. Dazai will stay with us this week to survive his rut with his omega, and then he flies to Paris. Any questions – and when met with silence, he clapped and smiled – our people will take you home. See you.
He waved childishly as the doors closed behind them.
They returned home around midnight, and the whole family was stunned by the new information.
Dazai, what have you gotten yourself into?
What do you think about it? Do you want a second part?
