The sound of the water was somewhat comforting. The cold sand beneath him an anchor to reality, despite the strangeness of the place. And the sunset was so beautiful. So beautiful and so bright. A light despite his end.
But as he was struck by the beauty in sight, an uneasy feeling overwhelmed him.
Something was missing.
Someone.
He couldn't remember, but somehow he knew he had to remember them. More than his own existence.
With the little will remaining in his body, feeling his mind slowly fading, he raised his arm towards the sunset, trying to reach it.
Were they behind it somewhere, waiting for him?
Then, everything became scenes. Him.
The water, blue eyes looking at him. The sand, a warm body lying near him. And the sunset, blond hairs brushed by the wind.
A hand leaned towards him, ready to lift him up.
To a new beginning.
A new breeze brought a whisper. A name.
Joshua.
He felt tears rolling down his cheeks, an infinite love overwhelming him. He was now at peace.
As he smiled for the last time, his hand reaching his, the sunset disappeared from the horizon, leaving only a glowing feather floating behind.
