Chapter Text
Your eyes fluttered open, but immediately shut closed, but not in an attempt to go back to sleep. You shifted to your side, your half open eyes meeting the sight of the TV, which was very much on.
You left it on while you were sleeping, that was going to suck for your future self. You laid back down on your back, stretching and letting out a yawn. You finally open your eyes and see the wooden roof above you.
Your hand reached for the remote to turn the TV off, the noise coming from it immediately disappearing. In the silence, you hear faint up-beat music coming from your upstairs neighbor. You sighed in slight annoyance, of course they were ready for today.
You push yourself up and put on your slippers, and walk to the fridge. You open it, hearing the condiment bottles rattling against each other from your sudden opening. You blink, staring at the empty fridge. Well, not exactly empty. You have milk, eggs, bread, onions, tomatoes, garlic, and many more items. But you didn't feel like making anything today so you open the freezer instead and take a bar of chocolate from it.
You sit on the couch, enjoying the sweetness of the chocolate. You remember that you have an off day from work since you called in sick for today last night. "whoohoo!" You internally cheered, already feeling much better because of that act. Hey, because you're in such a good mood, you should go on a walk to top it off! You stand up from the couch and change into some casual clothes, and then leave your apartment to get ready for the day.
As you walk through the sidewalk, you spot a rat in an alleyway, eating some bird shit. Eugh. But it somehow reminded you of something. A memory from how when you were younger, your family always compared you to a hamster. (due to your cute and childish looks)
Everytime they would find some way to tease you, even call you a rat if they needed some extra entertainment. You practically hated hamsters because of that. You had other reasons of course, just look at those small evil faces! Look at them and tell me they aren't planning to kill you in your sleep.
But they were right in some ways. Ever thought about how hamsters die in easily preventable ways? Well, as you stay fixated on the rat having a flashback, you didn’t realize that you were walking on the bike lane. Since the sight of the rat nibbling on the bird crap made you step away in disgust. You then hear an angry shout behind you, “Get off the bikelane you dimwit!” Your eyes widen as you turn to face the biker (for some reason), but they didn’t bother to stop. Too stubborn to do such as they crash into you, making you stumble in front of a speeding car running a red light, leading you to your demise.
.
..
…
With a gasp you sit up, wincing at the sharp pain in your head. Had you died? You thought to yourself, before hearing a familiar voice, “Relax. You need to rest.” You look up at the person, it was a woman with dark purple hair and some sort of butterfly pin. Your eyes squint as you slowly recognize her, wasn’t that the doctor from Bungou Stray Dogs? Yosano was her name, right?
You recalled how you didn’t favor her as much (apologies to the Yosano fans out there), I mean, her fan service creeped you out.
But your friends did mention how the animation studio left out a lot of things that could've made it better, every time they remembered that you only watched the anime, it made them go on and on complaining about the animation and pitying you, simply because you weren’t “blessed” by the manga.
While you had another flashback, you suddenly winced and closed your eyes, being reminded of the pain in your head.
Noting the pain, you looked back at the woman in front of you. You thought to yourself, “maybe she's just a normal woman who just happened to be cosplaying Yosano and saved you.” But maybe you did die, and you’re imagining yourself in the anime.. That could explain your surroundings, and why it seemed so.. Anime-like, if that makes any sense.
Ignoring the doctor’s objections and your pain you stand up to walk to the closest mirror and look at yourself to see what changed. Needless to say, a lot changed. It made you grimace at the sight, not that you were ugly. You’d fit into the Bungou Stray Dogs cast quite well, but it just felt odd being in another body. You sighed, a thought popping up in your head. “If this is how I live my last moments, I suppose it’s fine.”
As you were stuck in thought, Yosano narrowed her eyes in suspicion. She believed that you either truly lost your memories, or that you were secretly an enemy acting naive.
“Do you remember anything?” She asked.
You closed your eyes, repeating the unfortunate and idiotic moment of your demise. For a moment, you stayed silent. Either you were afraid of looking crazy, or the thought of breaking off from the reality you knew was starting to affect you.
With a mumble, you replied. ”Yes, I do.”
