Scattered Ashes

Summary:

In which Eunho's descendants are more sheltered and childish, and no one explains to them why they are at the columbarium holding the urn of Jo Euishin's family's ashes...

Work Text:

Ohhh, meanwhile, there's me who wants the kids (Eunho's descendants) to be playing around because no one explains why they're there and they're pretty ignorant sheltered kids and as they play- whoops, the urn of ES's family ashes gets knocked to the ground and shatters

In front of ES
But ES can't get angry at kids

So ES just forces himself to smile and comfort the kids (while blaming himself for being unable to protect his family again)

- A Random Person

It was an accident.

It was fake anyways.

There was no need to get angry at the kids who didn't know better.

There was no need to feel sad or receive apologies for something fake that didn't matter either...

But. Jo Euishin felt the words "It's alright" suffocate in his throat.

His vision blurred, making it hard to even see the kids that he wanted to comfort and say that it was alright to. They were kids. They shouldn't ever look so scared. Why were they suddenly scared?

It didn't matter...

Jo Euishin felt himself almost lose strength in his legs (why?). Jo Euishin saw a shaky hand - his own.

He touched the shattered urn - he didn't even have enough money to repay his relatives that had taken care of everything for him while he was away, far away, hadn't even been there for the funeral.

He touched the broken fragment, the scattered ashes. Fake. They were fake, but why. Why was he...

His finger which bled from edge of the sharp ceramic shard dirtied the ashes he was unworthy of touching.

He was dirtying the ashes of his family-

"Enough." A hand gently covered his eyes, bringing him into a hug against a sturdy chest. "We'll take care of it. ...Sorry." For what happened. "But you can leave the rest to us."

Jo Euishin buried his face into his last main playable character and forced himself to believe it and nod.

His last main playable character can take care of his family better than he could.

His last main playable character was worthy enough to do it.

His last main playable character had protected and helped so many people.

Jo Euishin, on the other hand, couldn't even protect his family's ashes.
