Work Text:
The spring thaw was in full swing, turning the streets into a mix of mud and half melted snow, but inside the Astor mansion, the lights were bright, the fires were warm, and the richest families of New York mixed with dignitaries from Europe. In July, Astor’s friend would be opening up the Newport Casino, but they couldn’t wait until then to talk about it.
“Oh! Mrs. Nilsen!” Mrs. Levinson called as she walked across the room. “It’s been so long! How is your family?”
“I think we will visit Newport this summer, our oldest will be home from school.”
