Work Text:
A snowstorm had hit Eastridge. It was a fairly common occurrence in the cold winter months, and the news had even warned about it, but it was worse than expected. When Rick had opened the door that morning, he and Sean had been met with a wall of snow. “How the hell did that happen?” Sean had muttered to himself.
Rick had discouraged him from the idea, but it was no use, and Sean had tried to dig a hole through the snow. He had failed miserably, and now he was laying on the couch while Rick had managed to close the door again.
“Sean, what did I tell you?” Rick asked as he walked into the living room.
“Look, it was worth a shot, okay?” Sean grumbled.
Rick chuckled. “Was running as fast as you could into the snow worth a shot?” Sean looked away. Rick sat down next to him. “Hey, I’m glad you at least didn’t get hurt.”
“How was I supposed to get hurt from running into snow?”
Rick leaned back. “Well… there was that one time a fly landed on your arm, and you screamed ‘ow’, and then there was also that other time where-”
“Okay, okay, I get it, I’m dumb,” Sean chuckled, giving Rick’s arm a friendly bump with his fist.
“It was pretty funny seeing you freak out over that fly though.”
“Shut up,” Sean said, looking away. Rick could see he was smiling though.
“So what? We’re just going to sit and do nothing all day?” Sean asked.
“Do you want to try again?” Rick chuckled.
“No, I’d get a cold!”
“I think you’re already going to get a cold.”
Sean sat up. “No, I’m better than that, it wasn’t even that much snow.”
“Sure…”
It wouldn’t be long before it was made clear Sean had gotten a cold because he started sneezing. He tried to do it as quietly as possible, but Rick had already noticed it.
“Guess I was right, huh?” he teased.
“Shut u-” Sean barely managed to get out before sneezing again. Rick tried not to laugh. “I’m not sick, I just have something in my throat.”
“And what could that be? Snow?”
It made Sean laugh, but that got interrupted by a coughing fit.
“Oh, sorry! Are you okay?” Rick asked.
“Don’t apologise, it’s not your fault,” Sean said. “I mean, unless you’re made of snow.”
Rick smiled. “I don’t think I am, Sean.”
“Well, that solves it-” Sean coughed again.
Rick winced. “Do you need some cold medicine or something?”
“No, I’m good, it’ll pass.”
Rick frowned. “I don’t think it will leave anytime soon.”
“But I don’t want to take medicine,” Sean protested, sitting back on the couch.
“I think it would help though.”
“Yeah, I know, but it feels…”
“It feels what?”
“Like… I feel like a wuss when I take medicine.”
Rick raised a brow. “How so?”
“Well… uh… it just feels less cool?”
Rick chuckled. “Sean, this isn’t middle school. You can take medicine if you need to.”
Sean crossed his arms. “Still!”
It didn’t seem like there was any way of convincing him. Rick just shrugged, but he wasn’t going to give up on him just yet.
“How about I make you some soup?”
Sean looked up. He seemed a little excited.
“You like soup?”
“Yeah! I mean- yeah, it’s pretty good.”
Rick smiled. “Alright, I’ll make you some.”
Sean seemed weirdly excited for soup. Rick made sure to mentally note that one down. They had only been living together for 2 months - they had been dating for less than that - but it felt like he learned something new about Sean every day. Whether it was his weird fascination with a specific tv show or the strangely high number of things he knew about trees, there was always something on his mind. Rick was happy he felt comfortable enough to share it all, it was fun to listen to.
When the soup was done, Rick came back into the living room with a bowl for Sean. He was laying on the couch but immediately sat up when Rick arrived. Rick smiled and sat down next to him.
“Here’s your soup!” he said.
Sean happily accepted the bowl. “It’s really good!”
“You like it?”
“Yeah! Why wouldn’t I? You made it after all.”
Rick blushed a little. “Oh, thank you.”
Sean smiled at him before continuing to eat the soup.
“Well, I’m glad you like it.”
“Yeah, it’s way cooler than medicine.”
They both laughed a little at the comment.
“But what if I had put the medicine in the soup?” Rick jokingly asked.
Sean stared at him. “No.”
“What do you mean no?”
“You didn’t, right?”
“No, no, I’m just messing with you.”
Sean looked at him suspiciously before finishing his soup. He sat the bowl down at the coffee table. “If I find out you put medicine in it later, I’m going to kick your ass,” he said playfully.
“You wouldn’t do that,” Rick said.
“No, I wouldn’t,” Sean replied, putting his hand on Rick’s. Rick blushed.
“You’re sure you don’t want any medicine?”
Sean rolled his eyes. “If I take some, will you stop nagging me about it?”
Rick nodded. “Yeah. Hang on, I’ll find it.”
After Sean had taken the medicine, Rick got some blankets and sat next to him.
Sean sneezed. “You really shouldn’t be this close to me, you know?” He looked concerned. “I don’t want to get you sick.”
“You’re right, but it’s hard to resist.” Rick replied, smiling.
Sean looked away, flustered. Rick smiled and leaned closer to him, giving him a kiss on the cheek. He could see Sean’s face turn red.
“Aw~”
“Shut up!”
Rick giggled, resting his head on Sean’s shoulder. He responded by kissing the top of Rick’s head.
“You know I’m just messing with you, right?” Rick asked.
“Yeah, but I’m still going to complain about it,” Sean replied.
“Is it because it makes you feel like a wuss?”
“Hey!”
“What? Is it like medicine?”
Sean elbowed him playfully. “Oh, be quiet!”
Rick grinned. “Sorry, I can’t help it. You’re so cute when you’re all flustered.”
They paused for a moment, just looking into the other’s eyes. Sean smiled and put his arms around Rick, burying his face in his neck. Rick blushed and gently ran his fingers through Sean’s hair. There they stayed for quite a while, cuddling under the blankets. It was nice to be all warm on such a cold day.
