Work Text:

his past life—

Takumi didn’t think about his past life, but then nobody except for the gods of the universe he found himself in knew he was some kind of reincarnate, that he’d lived a past life, and that he was simply restarting in a new world.

Nondiscript, really,he thought to himself as he watched the twins run around without a care in the world. Every day, the normal white-collar job for a corporate employer. It pales in comparison to raising the two kids, but would anyone I know have expected me to raise a couple of kids? I don’t even remember when I last interacted with my family, so it’s in a way odd, if I think about it.”

Taka!”

Takumi let out a hum, examining the bug Alan found and rushed over to show him, while Elena continued looking at the flowers in the field. A soft breeze blew through the field, leaving a peaceful feeling hovering over the area, not a single monster in sight. Takumi was already thinking of how the twins would jump all over any monster that showed up, thinking it was some kind of game.

Look.”

That’s a very cool bug,” Takumi said, carefully observing all of the features, planning on doing so as long as Alan held an interest in the bug, his attention going to something else, or—

Elena came over with a bunch of plucked flowers, looking up at Takumi, eyes wide.

Oh? Do you want me to do something with the flowers?”

Eyes widening was the affirmative answer, and carefully, he took the flowers Elena gathered, forming a flower crown, weaving it gently before setting it on the younger twin’s blue hair. The moment it sat on the top of her head, she beamed at him.

Me too!” Alan said. “But no flowers?”

Oh,” Takumi smiled, though that seemed like a hard order. The grass was long, and he reached out and gently took the strands in his hands, weaving them so that Alan could have a crown as Elena watched, eyes wide.

Wow,” she said.

Yeah,” Alan agreed.

And then Takumi finished, plopping the grass crown onto Alan’s head, feeling pleased with himself, even though the task was simple. “It makes them happy, so

Taka needs one too!” Elena said. “You need to match.”

I do?”

But…” Alan said, then glanced over at Elena. “But not like ours.”

So, something in between. Like, a grass grown with some flowers?” Not that he would normally adorn flowers, but it made the children he cared for happy. Fingers twisted grass and more flowers that Elena gathered, a few petals moving.

And then he plopped it on his head. “There. You two ready to get moving again?”

They looked at each other, thinking about it, and then they nodded their heads, taking his hands, and he stood, pushing himself up with his legs. They started walking, the journey—

There was no end in sight, no real place of going, beyond raising the two children and giving them a happy, safe life where nobody tried using them for their powers.
