<...>
It was a decently paced day with decent pacing, alright. Creatures were squawking and chirping outside as Dedusmuln and Wayne made their way to the Wayne’ house. They were getting quite tired, and Dedusmuln agreed they should stop to rest.

“Wow, Wayne! That is surely…err… a garden you’ve got there! You grow these yourself?”

“Yeah, I mean I was getting bored so I guess I, like, wanted to pick up a hobby if that makes sense?”

“Seems to do so! I take it these are where your vegetables come from?”

“Uh, yeah. Mostly.”

They walked past the garden and straddled to the house, both tired. Dedusmuln would occasionally ask Wayne questions on the way, and Wayne would answer them tersely. Wayne had a habit of answering questions in a ridiculously blunt manner, but that didn't bother Dedusmuln much. They were used to it.

Wayne picked his keys and unlocked the door, mutely taking a step back to give Dedusmuln space to set foot in the house first. Dedusmuln kindly nodded to this unexpected polite gesture and gingerly set foot in the house. Wayne shut the door behind them.

“Sorry if it’s like, messy. I guess I don't clean this place up as often as I should”

Wayne shrugged. Dedusmuln chuckled at this comment, they preferred a nomadic lifestyle and hardly took more than needed during their travel, though they could definitely empathize with the other.

It was a small house, that was for sure. But Dedusmuln seemed to like it nonetheless.

“It’s alright. I live in a tent, so this is much nicer compared to my place.”

“It's different. Your tent is somehow way cleaner, and I live in a house.”

Dedusmuln laughed again, then awkwardly eyed the house, immediately meeting the pious stare of a suspiciously Wayne-shaped kitten.

“Oh! Cat!”

“Meow.”

Dedusmuln laughed.

“Funny cat!”

Wayne nodded.

“Did you want anything to eat? I have some burritos. I can warm them in a jiffy.”

“That would be pleasant, thank you Wayne.”

Dedusmuln blissfully tapped their horns.

<...>
A few minutes later, Dedusmuln had gotten comfortable on the couch and Wayne’s burritos were finally ready. Wayne walked over to Dedusmuln and dropped down next to them on the couch, handing them one of the burritos. Dedusmuln took it brightly, and thanked Wayne again.

Dedusmuln was a polite person. Sometimes a bit too polite. Wayne had curtly mentioned this to them once before, though he felt bad for it because his manner of asking seemed to make Dedusmuln upset. Wayne was often disappointed with himself for making Dedusmuln (or anyone, really) sad because of how straightforward or uninterested he seemed. He’s been that way since he was born, and he didn’t have much to do about it. In reality, he was interested. He cared about his cool friends and their cool lives. He was just bad at showing it.

He didn’t want them to think of him the other way.

“So, Wayne? What shall we do?”

Dedusmuln said in a sing-song voice. Wayne had always thought they had a charm to them, and suspected half of it was their smooth melodic voice. Wayne could listen to them all day and he’d still be fond of it.

Actually, Dedusmuln had a lot of charm to them. Maybe it was their easygoing attitude, maybe it was their friendliness. Maybe it was how they were always positive and helpful no matter what.

That's what Wayne adored so much about
them. They always hung around. They were easy to be around, and they were kind and understanding to Wayne too. Wayne wondered if Dedusmuln had any friends before the party formed. Probably, since they were so outgoing and interesting.

Wayne sighed.

They sat on the couch together and lounged, without much to think about. Waynecat was rolling around and minding his own business. They were already getting comfortable, sinking into the warm clay couch.

They put on an incomprehensible samurai action movie and laughed at it, and suddenly time seemed to fly faster than Wayne remembered.

It was getting cold. Wayne quickly stood up and gathered a blanket from above the refrigerator. He sat back on the couch and laid the blanket on their knees, criss-crossing his legs as he leaned to the side of the couch in true badass fashion.

Suddenly, Wayne started getting some ideas.

He wondered if, maybe, just maybe if he slid a bit closer towards Dedusmuln…

“Wayne what- Are you trying to scoot closer to me?”

Dedusmuln laughed. Wayne froze in place. Maybe it wasn’t the best idea, as scooting on a clay couch with faux leather pants was probably not the most discreet.

Wayne blinked twice, then shrugged awkwardly.

What he didn’t expect happening however, was when Dedusmuln slid straight next to him on the couch, sides touching. He also didn’t expect it when Dedusmuln placed their arm on Wayne’s shoulder, side-hugging him casually.

Wayne blinked a few more times, eventually leaning into the touch. It was quite “goated”, actually. The rest of the movie went just like that.

Notes:

Hey! So I know its been a while and I havent really posted anything so serious on here still, I just wanted to write something short to show that my account is still alive and kicking. I dont expect a lot of support on this, since Hylics is a rotting dead fandom but I hope you like this and kudos/comments are appreciated as always! 💕 I was actually in the middle of writing a more serious angst fanfic, but I lost my data and needed to cope with that. Thankfully, I found this WIP lying in my docs basement and thought, hey, I can finish this! Hope you guys like! Mwah ✌️
