Chapter Text
I knew a girl once; she had short, scruffy blonde hair and an affinity for streetwear and motorcycle rides on the interstate. Her vibrant hazel eyes were something I ached to see, and some days I still envision them in my mind, the way they looked into mine as if I were the only person in the world.
I used to live with her. We shared a dorm at the university I used to go to. It really hasn’t been that long, just a couple months since I transferred. Though I first ran into her a while before that in a Starbucks doorway, when her hair still reached down to her thighs. She complimented my eyes and my taste in coffee, lingering on the former for a moment before I said my thanks and moved along. I never thought I’d see her again, let alone how big of an impact she’d have on my life.
We took care of each other and our issues as well as we could, and that was the only time I felt like someone had truly cared for me in my lonely eighteen years of life. She talked me through my depressive meltdowns, and I helped her get past her anorexia. She was, quite frankly, the best thing that ever happened to me.
And this is how, in just one semester, my fear and insecurities ruined that best thing and left me here, alone again, and two months later wishing I could take it all back. God, I should’ve taken it back.
