Boy, you better run

Work Text:

“STOP THIS!” Schpood shouted. He held his sword up at the tall halfling.

Supzec watched Evo try to continue fighting but stumbled back from InProper’s slash, falling over awfully close to the void. The stone around him was blown up, and one wrong move he would fall into the abyss.

Red covered his clothes, some of his bones bent in unnatural directions; Supzec knew he didn't have any more potions or food to heal himself.

He ignored Schpood’s blade and ran forwards, only for Zak to catch him.

“Evo!” Supzec yelled, trying to get past Zak. His leg ached and bled from the fight but he wasn't giving up. “Stop! Don't kill him!” he pleaded. InProper stood closest to his limp friend.

“Don't kill him? He's been chasing me, hunting me, wasting my time.” InProper said, gripping his sword. He mumbled something to himself but it was too hard for Supzec to make out.

He was fully focused on Evo.

“Evo, get up. Please get up.” Supzec begged. The human didn't move a muscle. He couldn't even tell if he was still breathing. “Let me–” he pushed Zak out of the way and ran towards Evo.

Schpood stepped in between him and InProper.

“Back up.”

“I need to help him.” Supzec looked over Schpood’s shoulder, trying to keep his wild eyes on Evo. “If you move any closer I will kill you.” Schpood said darkly. He walked forward, forcing Supzec to back up.

“Evo!” He kept yelling, hoping for an answer, for movement. For something.

Silence. He was unresponsive.

Supzec landed on his knees, staring at Evo’s disheveled body. He was dead.

No. No. No.

He couldn't be dead.

“Well, well, well. Isn't this ironic.” InProper said, looking down at the still man. “I killed Issac over the void. I killed you over the void twice, and now I’ll kill your new friend too!” He smiled. “It seems the void isn’t kind to you, Evo.” InProper said to the unmoving corpse.

Supzec scooted himself as far from the void as possible. He'd heard from Evo how painful of a death that it is, and didn't want to learn it for himself.

His adrenaline was at an all time high though, when Proper turned his gaze to him. Schpood's face read guilt, but was quickly covered up. Zak was neutral, just there to keep him apart from his friend.

“Don't..” Supzec kept backing up until he hit the converting machine behind him. Coldness traveled up his spine when InProper took a step forward.

“Maybe this isn't necessary, InProper. Why don't we just use the machine.” Schpood spoke up. The man turned to him. “Not necessary? They were trying to kill me.” He glared in Supzec’s direction. “You already killed one of them.”

“So? They were working together.”

He forced himself to stand up, ignoring the pain in his leg and tried to get away from this place. The ladder was just across the room.

Zak went in front of him and cut down the ladder, scattering pieces of wood and rope. Supzec’s heart dropped. “Supzec you know you aren't getting anywhere.” InProper chuckled right behind him. He swiveled, pain shooting up his leg.

“Ouhh… Supzec, that doesn't look too good.” InProper smiled, pointing to his gash. Blood still pooled from the wound; if he didn't stabilize it he would die from blood loss.

At least it would be better than a death to the void.

InProper grabbed his hood and dragged him back to the ledge where Evo laid. Supzec wanted to kick but every bump in the stone made him grit his teeth.

InProper let go when Supzec sat next to Evo.

His friend’s eyes were closed, his hair a mess covering his face. Up close he could see all his wounds in detail. His broken limbs. He turned away. He couldn’t keep looking.

He noticed Evo’s headband had come off his head, lying next to him. He didn't remember seeing it like that a few minutes ago, but he wasn't complaining. He grabbed it and tied it around his leg to restrict the bleeding. He then removed his sweater and put pressure on the wound.

“Oh Supzec. What are you doing?” InProper snatched the sweater away. He stomped on his leg.

Agony. That was the definition of agony.

“In.. this isn't necessa…” Supzec heard someone say. His ears were ringing, his nerves on fire. He let out exacerbated breaths. “It is…must suffer.” His hearing came back into focus.

“Look, Supzec, it's nothing personal.” InProper stood over him. “Okay well, maybe I lied. It is a little personal. But this needs to be done.” he lifted his leg.

“I have a mission to finish.” He whispered, loud enough for only the halfling to hear.

He was going to kick him off.

Supzec was terrified, but relieved? It will be over. No more chasing Death, no more close calls. No more pain.

As InProper kicked his foot, someone else moved. Someone beside him.

Evo’s bloodied figure grabbed his leg mid swing and dragged himself off the ledge with InProper in his grasp.

Evo struggled to keep his eyes open and grasp on InProper’s ankle. His hands were slippery with red and sweat. Multiple of his bones were broken by this man. InProper tried to kick his arm off of him but he held on for dear life. His body wanted to give up, but he wasn't letting him get back up there to hurt Supzec.

“You-” InProper threw on an elytra but Evo climbed his legs and ripped the fragile membrane.

Panic set in the other’s eyes.

“Let go of me!” He exclaimed, ripping Evo’s hands off him but it was already too late. No elytra, nothing to grab on.

He heard InProper’s ticking of damage beside him. “Evourai, you are a-” he was cut short as void tendrils dragged his body further down.

Evo’s eyes shut, his body relaxed. He didn't want to leave Supzec behind, but he was happy he hadn't died the same way he would. The last of his short breaths left his mouth. He was satisfied.
