Chapter Text

“Meet My Sensei”

Being bullied by Kyler was far from the best thing in the world—he hated him for being an idiot.

He looked down at his books scattered across the floor, feeling helpless for not doing anything. His wolf wanted to lunge at the other Alpha.

—Hey, asshole! Pick on someone your own size!—

Someone shouted, approaching quickly, making him stay crouched where he was.

—Who the hell are you?— Kyler asked mockingly, looking at the guy wearing a leather jacket and skull rings.

—That’s none of your business— The danger in his voice was clear.

Miguel’s wolf went still, making him slowly stand up with his books in hand.

Should he run and leave the stranger to deal with this?

—Look, Omega, don’t get involved or—

Miguel paid closer attention, lifting his gaze toward the guy defending him.

Omega?

He looked at the one in the jacket.

Was he really an Omega?

He subtly inhaled.

Yes.

Those pheromones—threatening, yet sweet—gave him the answer.

The next thing he saw was Kyler’s head smashing against a locker.

Miguel’s mouth fell open.

Some students were recording. The Omega stood there, frowning—probably headed for detention, but he didn’t seem to care.

Kyler stood up, dazed, then furious.

—Don’t you ever do that again, Omega—

Everyone expected the guy to tilt his head in submission.

Even Miguel tensed.

But instead—

A fist full of rings crashed into the Alpha’s nose.

—Trash— the Omega spat, furious.

Miguel stared at him a little longer than necessary.

He was stunned.

His wolf wagged its tail wildly, desperate to at least thank his savior.

But he couldn’t move.

Not a single muscle responded.

His eyes met those green ones.

—Are you okay?— the stranger asked.

—Y-Yeah… thank you— Miguel mentally wanted to slam his head into a locker for stuttering.

—You’re welcome— the Omega replied with a half-smile that left him even more frozen.

Then he walked away, disappearing down the hallway as people slowly stopped recording.

Miguel clutched his books tighter and rushed to his next class.

Coincidences could be strange.

Because the same person who had just saved him was now sitting beside him—less than a meter away—writing something in his notebook.

When he finally gathered the courage to speak, the teacher walked in and the classroom fell silent.

—You’ll be working in pairs—

Miguel really hoped he’d be paired with that guy.

Names were called one by one until the teacher paused, scanning the room.

—Robert Keene and Miguel Díaz—

Who’s that? Miguel wondered—

Until he saw a hand with silver rings resting on his desk.

Black-painted nails.

—I guess I’m working with you— a voice said, soft yet slightly annoyed.

Miguel looked up.

Those same green eyes were staring at him.

—W-Where can we meet?— he asked immediately, nervous about having the Omega so close.

It’s just a dumb assignment. Don’t get your hopes up.

—Can it be at your place?— Robby asked. He didn’t want anyone seeing his mother show up with some random guy… or embarrass him.

—Sure, no problem. Want me to give you my number so I can send you the address?— Miguel offered with a small smile.

—I’ll give you mine instead— Robby replied confidently.

Miguel handed him his phone. Robby typed in his number and returned it.

—There.

—I’ll text you so we can figure it out— Miguel said, almost frozen again.

Robby kept his hand extended for a few seconds, confused.

They stared at each other.

Miguel wondered if what he felt had been real.

—D-Did you feel… like a small electric shock?— Robby asked nervously, his tough façade slipping.

—Yeah.

Miguel couldn’t deny it.

He felt it.

Strong.

Precise.

That electricity.

That once-in-a-lifetime feeling only a few people ever experienced.

Some would call them lucky.

Others—chosen.

To feel connected to someone…

To find them in the same lifetime.

That’s how Miguel saw it.

But Robert Keene’s reaction was different.

Almost like he thought he was going to die.

He suddenly rushed out of the classroom, drawing everyone’s attention—including the teacher’s.

—Miguel, can you go check on him?—

He stood up immediately, chasing after the boy who now seemed to be on the verge of tears.

With everyone still in class, it was easy to spot him walking quickly down the hallway.

—Wait! Please, wait!— Miguel called, careful not to run too fast.

Finally—

Robby stopped.

Turned.

And Miguel felt something twist painfully in his chest at the sight of someone so vulnerable… just from crying.

—What?— Robby asked, staying there, like he was waiting for something… or maybe ready to run.

—Can we talk somewhere that’s not this hallway?—

Miguel approached him, and Robby didn’t try to leave.

He hesitated… then turned and started walking.

Miguel followed.

Under the bleachers.

Where no one would see them.

—I’m sorry— Robby murmured, calmer now. —This feels unreal. The only stable couple I’ve ever seen in my life are my grandparents… and they’re not fated. I don’t know how to deal with this.

They were in the same overwhelming situation.

—Me neither… I don’t know any couples like this— Miguel admitted, watching him steady himself.

—So… fated, huh?

Robby let out a small laugh.

Miguel couldn’t tell if it was mocking or genuine.

—At least you’re not an asshole—

Robby didn’t look at him when he said it.

Miguel blinked, stunned.

—We should… get to know each other— he suggested, unsure if he’d be rejected.

—Alright. You already know my name… but call me Robby—

The Omega extended his hand.

Miguel reacted instantly, their warm palms touching.

He tried to hide how nervous he was—but it was impossible.

Robby was staring at him.

—We should go back… or they’ll think we hooked up or something—

Miguel turned completely red.

Robby laughed, letting go of his hand.

They walked back in silence, keeping about a meter of distance between them, until they reached the classroom.

They stepped inside, slightly embarrassed.

Sam LaRusso glanced at them briefly before returning her attention to her notebook.

[…]

That same afternoon, Miguel sent him the address to his apartment. Excited, he changed clothes and headed out to train.

When he arrived at the dojo, he saw his sensei inside the office.

—I found my soulmate!— he shouted, startling the blond man, who stared at him wide-eyed.

—What?!— Johnny looked at him in shock.

Miguel immediately sat down, excitement bubbling out of him as he began to explain.

—He’s amazing! He hit Kyler and punched him in the nose with a skull ring!

—Are you sure he’s your soulmate?

—Yes.

—A tough Omega, huh?— Johnny teased, eyeing him.

—He’s a guy— Miguel corrected quickly.

—A tough Omega, huh? Is he hot?

Miguel flushed instantly at the question. He hadn’t even thought about that. All he could remember were Robby’s features—both rough and vulnerable in the same morning.

—He’s… cute— he admitted, staring down at the desk, trying (and failing) to hide his blush.

—What’s he like?

—He’s tough… and he smells like petrichor. Like autumn… and the cookies my mom makes.

Johnny blinked, surprised by the description.

—Tough and sweet. Not your typical Omega— the older man commented, standing up as training time approached.

For now, it was just the two of them.

And that was fine.

Johnny liked Miguel.

Deep down, somewhere he didn’t want to look too closely, there was something in Miguel’s admiration… something that reminded him faintly of Robby. Of the way his son used to look at him when he was a kid.

But he also saw Miguel for what he was—a good kid.

And surely, that Omega must be one too.

Because the Moon Goddess didn’t pair people who weren’t worthy of each other.

Still… it made him think.

He didn’t even know what caste his son was. The last time he saw him, he smelled like a beta.

What he didn’t know… was that Robby used scent suppressants.

[…]

Watching your soulmate look at the drawings in your room felt surreal.

Miguel sat on his bed, watching every movement of the Omega, curious—almost fascinated—to have him in his space.

—You’re really good at drawing— Robby commented, looking at the papers taped to the wall. He almost reached out to touch one, but stopped himself, not wanting to seem disrespectful.

—I could draw you— Miguel blurted out.

Immediately, he covered his mouth, mortified by his own words.

Robby turned to look at him, leaning against the small desk. A faint smile appeared on his lips.

—Would I be your muse?

The softness in his voice left Miguel completely still.

—Yes.

This time, Robby smiled and sat down in the nearby chair. He grabbed his notebook and looked at Miguel for a few seconds.

—We should get to know each other, Miguel— he suggested, glancing down at his notebook.

—Get to know each other…?

—Yeah. You know, questions and stuff.

Miguel thought for a moment… until his eyes landed on the rings on Robby’s fingers.

—What’s the story behind the rings?

Robby looked at his hands.

—I just… really like them. They make me feel safe.

There was something more beneath his words—Miguel could feel it.

—When did you start drawing?— Robby asked in return.

—Since I was a kid. I don’t remember exactly when, but my grandma encouraged me a lot—

Robby listened carefully.

—Grandmas are the best, right?

Robby said it with certainty. His grandmother adored him—and Miguel agreed completely.

They talked about more things while working on their literature project.

The Omega—wearing a denim jacket, a band t-shirt Miguel didn’t recognize, and slightly tight jeans (not that Miguel had been staring)—was now lying on the floor after nearly two and a half hours of exhausting their brains.

But the project was done.

—Do you want something to eat?— Miguel asked, a little embarrassed for not offering sooner.

—Yeah, please—

Robby sat up as Miguel stepped out of the room.

Miguel found his grandmother and his mom arriving—the dinner was already prepared.

—Hi, Miggi— his grandmother greeted, kissing his cheek.

—Hey… is it okay if I take some food to my room?

Before either of them could answer, Robby stepped out slowly, backpack in hand.

Both women turned to look at him.

And then—immediately—at Miguel.

Of course.

The Omega wasn’t wearing any scent suppressants… at his wolf’s request.

—Good evening— Robby greeted, a bit nervous.

Rosa was the first to recover from her surprise.

—Good evening. Would you like to stay for dinner?

Robby glanced at Miguel, unsure.

—Yeah, he’s staying. We’re exhausted— Miguel said, trailing off under his mother’s scandalized look.

—From the literature project— Robby added quickly, noticing the attention.

An awkward silence settled.

—Are you two friends?— Carmen asked, heading toward the kitchen.

—Yes!— Miguel answered quickly, helping serve the food.

Rosa guided Robby to the small dining table, and they started chatting. Soon, Miguel and Carmen joined them.

—Have you decided what you’re going to dress up as for Halloween?— Carmen asked curiously.

—I was thinking Deadpool… but it’s kind of expensive— Miguel admitted.

Robby nodded slightly, as if agreeing.

Carmen offered to make the costume.

Robby watched the scene, something warm blooming in his chest.

Sometimes… he wished his mother was like that.

Like Miguel’s mom.

At least he had been lucky—his grandmother loved him and kept him from going down a bad path.

—Heh, no, I’m not a makeup artist— Rosa joked, looking at her daughter.

Robby couldn’t help but laugh.

—And you, Robby? What are you dressing up as?— Carmen asked.

Robby thought quickly.

—I wasn’t planning to go… but if I do, maybe Spider-Man or something—

He smiled softly.

That natural charm was enough for both women to already adore him.

—How did you get that?— Carmen asked, noticing the bruise on Miguel’s knuckles.

—You don’t want to know— Rosa said in Spanish.

Robby didn’t understand, but judging by Miguel’s expression… it probably wasn’t good.

Dinner with the Díaz family felt like warmth.

Like home.

He connected quickly with Rosa.

There was something about her… like she knew something.

At the end, full, Robby said goodbye to both women with a kiss on the cheek.

He almost did the same with Miguel.

His wolf really wanted to.

But it felt too soon.

So instead, he placed a hand on his shoulder.

—See you tomorrow, Miguel—

With a small smile, he stepped out into the night.

The darkness hid his face.

So Johnny never saw the boy leaving the Díaz house.

[…]

—With this, you’ll win that boy over— his grandmother said excitedly.

Robby blushed slightly. He had already told her about Miguel… and how the boy with braces was his soulmate.

—Grandma, we’re just getting to know each other— he said while putting on the suit, which was a bit tight, to be honest.

But if Miguel was going as Deadpool… then he would go as Spider-Man.

—You’ve got a whole lifetime to get to know each other— his grandmother teased, ruffling his hair affectionately.

—His family is nice, you know?— Robby said, sitting at the edge of her bed. She pulled him into her arms.

—I know, sweetheart… you make me want to meet them too.

That night, he stayed over at his grandmother’s place. The guest room was far better than the terrible couch he usually slept on.

Over the following weeks, Miguel and Robby grew closer. The Omega’s attitude even helped Demetri and Eli—they were happy to have more friends.

Even Aisha found it easier to talk about Omega-related things with Demetri and Robby.

Eventually, they also helped her reconcile with Sam LaRusso.

Now Sam was braiding Robby’s hair while they all hung out in a grassy area, each doing their own thing.

—You’re going to look really badass— the beta said, finishing the thin braids and tying them, one on each side.

—“Badass”? He looks like he’s about to model— Demetri added while reading a comic.

Robby turned to look at Miguel, who was sitting with Eli, listening to music.

Miguel looked back at him with a smile that left him frozen. His wolf was wagging its tail like crazy.

—Are you sure they’re not dating?— Aisha whispered to Demetri, watching the way Miguel and Robby couldn’t stop looking at each other.

—As far as I know… no.

They were good friends.

And Miguel couldn’t be happier to finally have people to talk to and hang out with.

After school, as it had become routine, Robby walked Miguel home.

—Are you really going as Spider-Man?— Miguel asked curiously.

—Yeah. Is your grandma really making your Deadpool suit?

—It’s in progress.

Their hands brushed.

Their pinkies insisted on intertwining.

And who were they to deny it?

Robby smiled shyly, looking everywhere except at the Alpha walking beside him.

—My wolf is howling— Miguel blurted out.

Robby immediately took his whole hand.

—Mine too— the Omega replied softly, his pheromones turning sweeter.

—My sensei cured my asthma— Miguel said out of nowhere.

Robby stopped dead in his tracks, staring at him in shock.

—How the hell did he do that?!—

Miguel began telling him the story.

Robby blinked, still processing.

—Are you sure he doesn’t have a few screws loose?

[…]

Halloween night arrived.

Miguel pulled on his socks, getting ready for the dance.

—I wish I could show Mom what I made… but if she knew where I am, she’d kill me— he said, watching the blond approach with some papers in hand.

—What’s wrong?— Miguel asked, noticing the seriousness on his face.

—Nothing. Put on the costume. I’ll take you to the dance—Johnny said.—I’ll recruit more students.

Miguel obeyed immediately, putting on the mask first.

—What the hell is that?

—My Halloween costume. My grandma made it… it started as Deadpool, then I think it became Spider-Man, and then it ended up as a generic superhero.

—Yeah… but a poor one— Johnny looked him up and down.—You’re super poor.

—Yeah.

—Well, I can’t let you go like that. We have a reputation to maintain.

—What do you suggest?

Stepping out through purple smoke, dressed as a skeleton, Miguel spotted Demetri and Eli. He asked about their costumes, and soon the three boys were watching Sam LaRusso laughing with Aisha as they ate something together.

Miguel looked away—

Because Robby had just walked in.

Without his Spider-Man mask.

Surely, in a past life, he must have done something incredibly heroic to deserve a soulmate like Robby.

Miguel couldn’t react.

Eli did him the huge favor of pushing his jaw back up, while Demetri excitedly complimented Robby’s look.

—I like your necromancer costume— Robby said with a smile.

—Did you see the amulet?!— Demetri immediately launched into an animated explanation, and the two Omegas got caught up in conversation.

Even so, Robby kept stealing glances at Miguel.

After a while, Robby left Demetri and walked over to him. They stood side by side, sipping some punch.

—I like your costume. It’s a classic— Robby said.

—That’s what Demetri said too.

Robby’s half-smile caught him off guard as he took Miguel’s hand, gently pulling him away from the dance floor, making sure no staff noticed.

—Where are we going, Robby?

—Shhh! Don’t talk so loud or we’ll get caught— Robby whispered, leading him outside, toward a tree.

—Good thing my sensei cured my asthma, or I’d be having an attack right now— Miguel joked, though Robby’s face turned alarmed.

—Are you okay?! I’m so sorry!

—I’m fine, really!— Miguel said quickly, watching as Robby grabbed his shoulders.

—Are you sure?

Their faces were close.

Miguel realized they were the same height—and that only made him more nervous.

—Yeah.

Robby stepped back, then moved toward the tree and pulled his mask on.

—Do you want to see something cool?

Miguel, a bit confused, nodded.

Robby climbed up the tree, hooking his legs over a branch and hanging upside down.

—I’m going to get dizzy if you don’t kiss me— he said.

Miguel stepped closer, surprised, slowly lifting the mask.

That electric spark hit him again.

It kept him there.

Made him stay.

Made him keep tasting Robby’s lips.

The sweet scent of cookies filled his senses.

Kissing his soulmate felt… incredible.

He helped Robby down, but before he could even process it, Robby’s gloved hands grabbed his shoulders again, pulling him into a second kiss.

Robby’s arms slid around his neck.

Miguel’s hands found their place at his waist.

That night…

was perfect.

—Let’s go out, Miguel— Robby said, looking at him with excitement.

—Like… a date?

—Yes!

Miguel smiled, pulling him closer and pressing their lips together once more.

They were going on a date.

[…]

Miguel finished wiping off his face paint and looked at himself in the mirror.

“You’re going on a date with your soulmate.”

He immediately left his room, still half-cleaned up, and dropped onto the couch where his mom and grandmother were watching a telenovela.

—I’m going on a date with my soulmate— he said casually.

—WHAT?!— Carmen shot up from the couch, staring at him in shock.

She looked like she might faint.

Miguel just smiled.

—Who is it?— Rosa asked, already thinking that if she saw Robby again, she’d give him a comforting hug.

Because that project hadn’t been the only time Robby Keene had been at the Díaz house—he’d been coming at least twice a week.

And she was sure that Omega liked her grandson.

—It’s Robby— Miguel admitted with a dreamy smile.

Both women screamed and hugged him.

—He’s your other half— Rosa whispered in his ear.

Miguel told them how they met, how everything had happened, and how happy he was to be going on a date with him.

The night had never looked more beautiful.

After talking with his sensei, Miguel headed to Golf N’ Stuff. He had wanted to pick Robby up, but Robby insisted on meeting there.

And when he saw him in the distance—

So… unbelievably handsome.

A burgundy leather jacket, a shirt in the same shade.

And that smile.

It made his heart race.

—Hey… what do you want to do first?— Miguel asked, unsure whether to kiss his cheek or not.

—Let’s play first—

They headed toward the games.

They quickly realized they were both competitive—but it only made the date more fun. They joked, laughed, teased each other.

—You made it!— Robby cheered when Miguel scored his third basketball shot in a row.

That meant a prize.

They got a plushie—a husky.

For a moment, they just stared at each other, the stuffed animal the only thing between them.

Then they walked hand in hand, first to grab some burgers, then to sit on a bench.

Robby leaned his shoulder against Miguel’s, giving him a small smile as they ate and talked about school—until the topic of karate came up.

—My sensei says I’m progressing fast— Miguel said.

Robby looked interested.

—Does your sensei accept Omegas?—

Miguel thought about it.

Sensei Lawrence could be… a bit sexist.

But he had reacted positively when Miguel mentioned—indirectly—how tough Robby was.

—I think so… I don’t think he’d say no— Miguel replied, not entirely sure.

He watched Robby take a sip from the soda they were sharing, then meet his gaze.

—My dad used to do karate. I always wanted to learn… I haven’t seen him in a long time—

Robby was being honest.

And Miguel appreciated it.

—I know you can learn. Want me to show you a move?— he offered, trying to lighten the mood.

Robby set his burger aside and stood up.

A moment later—

They were on the ground.

Robby underneath him.

They laughed at how ridiculous they looked… until Robby gently cupped his face.

Those deep green eyes.

His hand, the edge of one of his rings brushing softly against Miguel’s hair, pulled him closer.

—This is a move too— he whispered.

And then their lips met.

Miguel had never felt happier.

He kissed him back with the same intensity.

They were dating.

They were boyfriends.

—We have a whole lifetime to get to know each other— Robby said before kissing him again.

Miguel felt like he was floating.

[…]

He arrived at the dojo and saw his sensei holding a beer.

—Who’s the best?!— Miguel shouted.

—I’m the best!— Johnny exclaimed, pointing at himself.

Miguel made an excited gesture, and Johnny looked at him.

—Oh damn, are you the best too?! Tell me you’re the best!

—I’m the best! I crushed it on my date!

—I crushed it at the committee meeting!

—Is Cobra Kai in?

—Of course it is! Cobra Kai is back, baby!

Both Alphas hugged, celebrating their victories.

—Alright, I’m gonna grab a soda. Want a beer?— Miguel asked.

—No, this deserves a real toast.— Johnny walked into his office for a moment.

Miguel stayed there, confused, until he saw his sensei come back out with a bottle and a glass, pouring him a drink.

—He’s my boyfriend.— Miguel announced, taking a sip.

—A real winner.— Johnny commented proudly.

<…>

Robby gently ran his fingers through Miguel’s hair as they sat at the Omega’s house, which he had made sure looked perfect.

—My grandparents want custody of me,— Robby said, breaking the silence.

—Does your dad agree?— Miguel asked curiously, straightening up on the couch.

—I don’t know. My mom is more absent every day, and my grandparents don’t want anything to happen to me,— he said, hinting at a bad experience with one of his mother’s boyfriends.

—I’m glad they’re protecting you.— Miguel kissed Robby’s forehead, making him smile.

—I think… this is what happiness feels like,— Robby murmured, letting himself be held. His rings were resting on the kitchen counter; he felt comfortable with Miguel. He could take off his mask and feel safe.

—Meet my sensei,— Miguel said, pulling back slightly to see the Omega’s reaction.

—Do you want me to train karate with you?— Robby asked, a playful tone in his voice.

—It wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Robby thought for a moment before pushing Miguel back onto the couch and lying on top of him.

—Alright,— he agreed. He wanted to meet the man who had given his boyfriend so much confidence.

The next day was practice. Robby watched Miguel’s face as he saw the Cobra Kai logo—his eyes widened in surprise before he turned to look at him.

—Cobra Kai…?— he asked, his tone hard to read.

—Yeah, my sensei named it after the dojo he trained in,— Miguel explained excitedly.

Robby just nodded, trying to mask his emotions.

He wouldn’t blame someone who didn’t know the history.

He buried his frustration and pain beneath the affection he felt for Miguel. He just wanted to see him happy.

They stepped inside the dojo. Apparently, his father wasn’t there.

Robby walked down the hallway, noticing photos he had only seen once in his life—pictures of the champion.

—I’ll go change,— Miguel said, kissing his cheek before heading to the locker room.

—Alright,— Robby murmured, continuing to look around.

“Strike first
Strike hard
No mercy”

He smiled at that. Some things never changed.

It seemed like his dad had changed, though. Miguel was helping him. Robby felt a hint of envy, but he knew the Alpha had no idea he even existed in Johnny’s life.

Still… he liked that his father wasn’t a loser anymore.

Miguel hugged him from behind and kissed his cheek. Robby smiled and turned to face him.

—I’m glad we met,— he said, kissing Miguel’s forehead, making the brunette blush.

The bell rang, signaling someone else had arrived. Robby turned again, a mischievous smile on his lips. He was going to enjoy this moment.

A few students entered, including Hawk.

—Robby? Are you training here?— the Alpha asked excitedly. Even with a new name and appearance, sometimes he still acted like Eli.

—We’ll see if you convince me,— Robby said, winking at Miguel, who smiled.

More students arrived. Miguel was getting impatient—he wanted Johnny to show up.

As if his thoughts had summoned him—

—Alright, ladies!— Johnny walked in, noticing the students scattered around the dojo.

—Sensei, I want to introduce you to someone!— Miguel exclaimed. Hawk joined him.

—Did you bring your little boyfriend?— Johnny asked, looking at a boy standing with his back turned, about the same height as his student, still staring at the Cobra Kai motto.

Johnny caught the soft scent of an Omega in his dojo—not overwhelming, but unmistakable.

—I like the motto,— Robby said, turning around to face his father, who stood frozen a few meters away.— Just like I remember it…

Miguel, completely confused, watched as Johnny started walking toward Robby. He quickly moved closer to his boyfriend.

—Robby…— the blond Alpha said, looking at his son, who smiled and briefly glanced at Miguel.

—Yes, Dad?— Robby replied with a smile.

—DAD?!— Miguel practically felt like fainting.

But he wasn’t the only one shocked.
