The apple of everyone's eyes

Summary:

After getting into an accident, Itoshi Rin wakes up inside a novel where Isagi Yoichi is the main character—super cute, naturally charming, and somehow has a whole harem. The problem? Rin isn’t the main character… he’s the cold side character who’s supposed to bully Isagi.

Rin tries to act like his usual intimidating self, but he’s actually super awkward and overthinks everything. Even worse, Isagi can hear all his thoughts—like how he’s panicking and doesn’t actually want to be mean.

So every time Rin tries to be scary, it completely backfires. Instead of being a cool rival, he just confuses everyone and somehow makes things even weirder. With no system or cheats, he tries his best to follow the plot and Rin has no idea that Yoichi and his harem can hear what he’s thinking.

Chapter 1: 一

Chapter Text

The last thing Rin remembered was the sound of brakes. A sharp screech. Bright headlights. Then impact.

Everything went black.

When he opened his eyes again, he was standing. Not on the street. But In a hallway. Voices filled the air. Lockers slammed. Shoes echoed against the floor. It was loud, too loud. Rin didn’t move. Something felt off. His body felt… different. Taller. Stronger. Familiar, but not his. Then memories rushed in. Not his own. Blue Lock. A novel he barely read. The main character, Isagi Yoichi was naturally cute, somehow pulling everyone toward him. And Rin... Rin was the side character who got in the way.

“…Rin?”

A voice snapped him out of it. He looked up, and there he was, Isagi, Smaller than him. Softer features. Wide blue eyes that looked confused but calm at the same time and Rin froze. That’s him, the beloved main character.

The hallway got quieter. People were watching. Waiting. Rin’s chest tightened. Oh. This is that scene. The one where he intimidates Isagi in public. His stomach dropped.

I don’t want to do this.

But his body moved anyway. He stepped forward. Isagi instinctively stepped back. Rin’s shadow fell over him. He didn’t even have to try. His height, his build—everything about him already looked threatening.

“…You’re in the way.”

The words came out cold. Sharp. Exactly like the novel. Inside his head

I’m so sorry. I don’t even know where I am. Please don’t look at me like that.

Isagi blinked.

“…What?” Rin paused.

Wait. Did he react to that? He leaned in slightly, trying to stay in character. His expression stayed blank, eyes focused, posture straight, intimidating without effort.

Okay just stand here. Look scary. Use your height. That works, right? Why is this so awkward?

Isagi’s eyes widened just a little. Not from fear. From confusion.

“You’re… weird,” Isagi said quietly.

Rin stiffened.

Weird? I messed up already.

He straightened, crossing his arms slightly, showing off his build without really thinking about it. It worked. From the outside, he looked even more imposing now.

I don’t want to hurt him. I just need to scare him a little so the story stays on track. Why is he staring at me like that?

Isagi’s thoughts were racing.

I can hear him. I can actually hear him.

He looked at Rin again. Same cold face. Same sharp eyes. But the voice in his head didn’t match at all.

“You’re different,” Isagi said.

Rin’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Different how??

Before anything else could happen— Footsteps approached. Multiple. The atmosphere shifted immediately. Rin didn’t even need to turn around.

No way. It’s them. Isagi’s harem.

He slowly looked over. And there they were. Sae, calm and unreadable. Kaiser, smirking like he was watching something entertaining. Ness, clearly focused on Isagi, all naturally drawn toward him, and passersby left. Rin’s brain froze.

“What’s going on?” Kaiser asked, tilting his head.

Rin said nothing. Because if he spoke, he might actually embarrass himself.

Don’t talk. If you talk, you’ll mess it up. Just stand there.

Isagi and Kaiser glanced at him again.

"It’s nothing,” Isagi said quickly.

Everyone looked at him. That wasn’t the usual reaction.

Rin blinked. Wait. That worked? He didn’t question it.

He turned. And walked away. Calm. Steady. Controlled. At least on the outside. The moment he turned the corner, he sped up. Then faster. Then he ran. Rin didn’t stop until the hallway was empty. He leaned against the wall, breathing out slowly.

"This is bad.” He ran a hand through his hair.

“Really bad.” Because if this was the novel, then nothing was going how it was supposed to. He closed his eyes.I need a plan. A pause.

Step one: avoid people. Another pause. “…That’s not going to work.”

Back in the hallway, Isagi stood quietly. Still staring at where Rin disappeared.

"He’s strange,” Kaiser said. Isagi nodded slightly.

But his expression softened.

“…Yeah.” He hesitated.

"but not in a bad way.”

Because what Rin showed and what Rin thought were completely different.

Somehow… they wanted to understand why.
